2016 KTM 150sx vs. 2016 KTM 250 sx

Hey guys, just looking for some advice on what bike to get for 2016 season. I am 5"6 130lb male. Trying to decide between 250 two stroke and 150sx. A bunch of my friends are starting to race 250 two strokes in 250 B against 250fs. I can see they have an obvious advantage, especially on the line since they're always pulling holeshots. My friends are a little bigger than me, so I was thinking about getting a 150. It is a lot lighter and and has the new updated chassis for 2016 while the 250 does not. Will I still be able to throw down lap times competitive with the 250 two stroke on the 150sx ? Or is the bike underpowered vs the 250f and 250 two stroke? Thanks!

150 will definitely help you bridge the gap. New 2016 150 makes 40 peak hp or something crazy. And since your still a feather weight and weigh 130 lbs I thibk you will have no problems keeping up to 250 two stroke. I wouldn't buy a 2016 ktm 250sx seeing as in 2017 it's supposed to get a whole new make over like the new 2016 ktm 125 and 150. I'd wait the extra year.

Yeah i would wait for the 2017 250sx or get the 2016 150sx!

Thanks for the help! That's what I was thinking as well, the 250 two stroke is going to depreciate so much as soon as te 2017 comes out

I think you'll be fine with the 150. Pretty sure it's closer to 45 hp for 2016. The 250 guys have more power, but you and your bike weigh less.

Like I said "pretty sure" "closer to"
The old motor is good for ~40 and I coulda swore the new motor has 3 more hp. So ~43

I couldn't find any dyno numbers for the 2016 though. Anyone got a link?

"40.60 HP" From MXA's mag. Produces about the same amount of HP as the 2015 YZ250F/KX250F's (40.XX HP) and produces more HP than the CRF250R and RMZ250, but falls short against the 2016 250sxf/FC250 (43.XX HP). Should keep up with 250fs just fine as long as you stay on the pipe.

I had a yz 250f but I sold it because I wanted to get back two strokes. The 2015 yzs make 40.5 horse so I'm pretty happy to hear the ktm 150 makes 40.6

The 2017 150 will be the same as 2016 except for the new air fork. Same chassis and power plant. I'll stick with my 2016 150 because I've heard not good things about the air forks in general.
