I have a couple of NOS yellow Petty TD's; I could be coaxed to sell one but I'd prefer to trade for an original red one.

And it is awesome news to hear that the molds for the new ones are coming back. The TD has to be the most used fender nonoem copy fender ever made.

Joe, I will certainly post pics when it's all together. The project got stymied somewhat with Karl taking 11 mos to build the Thor arm, Doug taking 4 mos on the pipe, and Thor needing 6 mos on the Simons rebuild. And believe me I'm not complaining, each one of these guys are truly unbelievably talented and their pieces are absolute works of art,definitely worth the wait, but other projects got in the way while waiting. When I saw the Fox bikes at the Mid-Ohio GP back in 76 ,I went home and built one for my own assault on the 125 Nationals. My bike turned out fantastic, but I was not quite as fast as my bike was,llol. Wise,Marty Smith, Richter and the rest of those guys were in an entirely different world, but it was great fun trying!! Anyway ,like a lot of guys my age, I'm trying to relive my youth and collect and build all the bikes I raced and then hand them off to my daughter to keep after I'm gone. But I will definitely post pics when done, I want the Masters opinion. Also just bought an 80 Rm100 to build to try to race the Tripes Revenge class. Any advice on that build ??

And when you get that unobtanium yellow Tony D, are you going to whack 5-6 inches off the back of it like Fox did to clear their pipe? I did. It was difficult.....Shocked

(I may have to have someone else do it so I don't have to watchSad I currently have 79 front fender on it that looks pretty good and clears the Childress pipe. posting a couple shitty teaser pics.In the pic the colors on the tank may look off because of the dining room lighting, but they are correct. Obviously the Thor arm isn't on,nor the tank. Only pieces I'm missing are the TD fender, chain guide(was trying to talk Karl into fabbing one ,he must have forgot,lol) and a radial head. However the first gen. Fox bikes I saw didn't have radial finning. Ive also decided to take the top end off again and have the head and cylinder bead blasted. I found some old pictures I took at Mid-Ohio and those Fox bikes had the natural head and cylinder.So Joe, what do you think of the "works" Fox stand ??

What sort of CR goodies you got? Smile Would very much prefer to swap it for a red Petty Tony D, but a little more willing to send it off it to a worthy project (i.e., any Fox replica project) in view of the news that they'll be remaking them again when the mold comes through. An effort that well done warrants a proper Petty in the front.

Looks great, love that stand too.
What kind of chain guide? I know some Fox bikes ran Pro-tec chain tensioners. I know of 2 guys re creating them.

PN- thanks--- and yes a Pro-Tec would be cool. I was told Dave Boydston of AMS made them but he just emailed me that he doesn't have any, so any contact info would be appreciated.

FTE- I have a 79 motorless rolling chassis with whatever you would need off of it, plus a dented but fixable alloy tank, plus im thinking of disposing of this one that I have 95% complete

Chain guide for the Richter bike was one of those things that evolved as they raced it. Never could find a good pic of the roller that had mounted near the front of the swingarm. You can see the chain pulled up behind Pats leg in the first photo and what may be a stock steel chain guide at the rear. Later on they ran one like the next couple of pics. One of the Thor arms I stumbled upon had one on it.

Newmann,thanx for the photos, it really shouldn't too difficult to fab one up.However ,if someone is producing close replica's it may be quicker to buy one and mod it if necessary. Karl did a great job on the swingarm,its a dead ringer, probably even nicer than an original, the mounting tab is correct and he even has a threaded tab on the inside near the lower shock mount where they had a piece of alloy to prevent a derailed chain from sawing thru the Airshox ,nice detail.

Bad brush designs has them. But I bought mine from trw-37v on ebay. Just search Pro tec chain tensioner. He has 1 on now for 74-76 kx. He made me 1 for my klp Thor replica arm I got about 2 months ago.

Honestly, I pretty much have everything I need (way more, e.g., 4-5 clean tanks - I got carried away early on), but am always kind of looking for bits of trickery ~ the stuff folks usually don't want to sell. I'll actually probably be unloading another bunch of 78-80 Cr250 stuff soon to get the piles whittled down.

But I'd be happy to get a Petty off to you, whether there's red one around for trade or not. It'll cost you what it cost me, no more, plus the shipping. Shoot me a pm with your address so we can work out the details to get it to you pronto.

And if anyone has an NOS red Tony D they'd be willing to sell me, that'd be awesome.

domoguchi I would be very interested in purchasing your translucent Tony D Fender if you are willing to sell it? I have sent these colored fender pieces to our manufacture in Italy to have this matched. The samples I have sent have been old broken pieces not a complete new fender. Italy has tried to match this twice but still not correct. So a full new fender would be a great asset.

We have matched the two different yellow colors ( light yellow and dark yellow). I have provided to Mike Murphy (Rokon), Allen Brown ( Northwest CZ/Miaco) and Tim Weaver ( Hugh's Bultaco) all of the color match samples so far and they all feel we are dead on exact. The newest run of IT Rear fenders and the I.B. Muder fronts using these new color matches is in the works.

The colors we will have shortly are the Yamaha Yellow, Suzuki Yellow, Silver/Gray, Bultaco Blue, Yamaha Blue, Can-Am Orange,red and white.

Much appreciated, we'll see how this unfolds. I try to keep my old school moto trading karma good; I like dealing with people I like and know that when we pay for something the price is fair (not below market, but not gouging either), and often just send something along with trust that the favor is returned at some point. It's a beautiful world when that happens.

Like I said in the e-mails, the original TonyD's came in one shade of yellow, so if you really want a Suzuki yellow match it's not a bad idea to wait for the licensed repops. It's a bit of the same thing with the Honda's; the Petty red is a single shade that does not match the Tahitian red of the early red Hondas.

I do have an NOS undrilled red TonyD, so that's not holding the build up, but I am looking for a spare. I am convinced the one thing in life that is certain besides death and taxes is that I will drop and scratch plastic on any bike I ever roll on two wheels. If enough time passes, I may end up with one of those repops for the daily grind and stash that red one for another day (the curse of rare NOS bits ~ when to use them)>

What of this orange that the Tony D style fenders came in? Was it more of a Tahitian Red than actual orange? I have a nice one on a 77 CR125, will have to double check just how nice it is though. Is the bolt pattern the same or a larger pattern on the 78-80 CR250?

It's pretty orange ~ for the Can Ams. I think it's even more orange than the 83-87 bikes (Flo Red?)

I'm actually good with the red mis match as long as it is driven by the Petty fender being the same color as it was when Fox stuck it on Larry Wosick's bike for the 79 nationals

The orange is can am orange, the red is Honda red the translucent is well, translucent....I grew up racing heads up with Tony D at a local level before he made the big show, even beat him a time or two..... Great guy, great looking fenders.

OK....year old thread, so have no idea if anyone is watching it....but....I just found it. I am finally building myself a Fox RM125, and it is going to be a virtually exact replica. I lucked into what I believe is a true ex-Fox bike (of course, relieved of its Simons and Thor/Shox, buy otherwise pretty much there). Have located everything but the Shox, which won't be much of a problem when I get ready for them (or swap the set off my CR with the vintage finned Works shocks on my shelf). Anyway...I do need a yellow Tony D. Don't know if that deal above ever played out, and it's been a full year, but I have an NOS red Tony D and would do the swap if anone is still interested. Let me know here or email me at cr250r79@aol.com.

By the way...thanks OldPro for the compliment on the pipe...and sorry it took 4 months (at least I'm glad I wasn't the slowest....). Do you have pics of the finished product? Would love to see it.
