Marquez reacted to what was said by Rossi in the press conference, Rossi reacted to Marquez's reaction. It was hard racing up until the point where Rossi ran him out wide, but I don't think you could say that either rider did anything more than make the most of gaps that were there up to that point. I don't believe for a second that Rossi had the intention of knocking Marquez off, but in slowing down, running Marquez wide and looking for him a number of times, he made it look worse than it should've done. By running right out wide and deliberately blocking Marquez, he instigated the incident that led to Marquez crashing. Whether that outcome was what he intended or not, it is a penalty.

If Rossi had just kept his mouth shut and gone about his business the way he should, then I'm sure that he wouldn't have got that kind of reaction out of Marquez
It was "hard racing up until the point where Rossi ran him out wide"

Really? You should rewatch the race. Marquez would pass Rossi, then cruise, then pass Rossi, then cruise... And his passing was unnecessarily close to Rossi, forcing him to focus on not crashing instead of racing fast. That's not hard racing, that's messing with someone.

I'm not a fan of revenge or ganging up but man...that title just belongs to rossi. what he managed to pull off this season at his age. nobody belived he could do it anymore and he proved them all wrong and i love that.

if you look at it from the big picture, Rossi has over 11 million fans and thats just from facebook, so 300k is not even 3% of his fan base.

Im sure there is a whole heap more MM haters out there too... so 300k is nothing really.

Are you serious? So because of words, WORDS, said at a press conference MM is justified in his actions? Because of something said at a press conference? GTFOH!

Let's see....spoken words said at a press conference vs. tangible threatening actions on a race course at speed possibly ending in serious injury? Sticks and stones may break my bones, but words will never hurt me......

MM has not done anything wrong that can be proved, he was racing Rossi, and he is allowed to do that, it may be an unwritten law, but those are enforced by the riders, and MM will be battling for a championship again and that may come back to hunt him in the years ahead,

Rossi lost it on the track, by looking at him so many times and forcing MM that far off the racing line, it forced a penalty in my mind, a lot like the Chad Reed penatly (but handled better and like Chad wanted it to be, after the race),

In many other sports, the reaction is often punished more than the original minor offence that caused the rider/player to react,

I unfortunately didn't get the chance to see the race on TV, but did find the clip depicting the battle that ensued between VR and MM. The race between them definitely was a close one, but for only 3rd position at the time. Considering that MM isn't really in the points chase within the championship, he had no place in battling as hard as he was with VR. Though, had the race been the last one of the series, and the two of them battling for the lead, then I can understand a penalty being enacted upon VR. But, since the two of them weren't battling for points, but rather position within the race, MM had no place to be riding the way he was around VR. If you search for the clip, and watch the battle, anyone could see the frustration that VR was experiencing with MM. MM was making very close and aggressive passes, while VR was being calculated the entire time. When it came time when VR ran the wide line on MM, he, VR, wasn't trying to run MM off the track, but rather just put him in his place. It was up to MM to let up and not hit VR, but instead purposely leaned into VR and quite possibly take both of them out.

Tell me this. Did or did not Marques brake and then accelerate turning in to Rossi? Did he turn right while accelerating or not. From every angle you can see that Rossi holds his line, no?

I wonder what Honda think of bitch Marquez not getting a 1-2 at sepang... He had the speed to take off and chase pedrosa. He chose to slow down let Lorenzo by and then play games with Rossi.

can you site the FIM rule that says dont pass a guy back that is racing for a championship, because Ianone was racing both Lorenzo and Rossi the week before,

if MM really wanted to get Lorenzo to the title, why would he do a dive bomb pass him on the 3rd to last corner,

here is the video of the action, for those that forgot it,

Rossi hold his line????

this is while he was looking at Marquez, he's hardly staying on line, he maybe keeping the same ark, but its not holding your racing line,

but i agree with you that MM turned first, but when you run someone that far wide, while looking at the other guy, it does not bring out the "i'm innocent" in the whole affair

Show me FIM rule that says you can`t use all the track and have to stay on a "racing" line? Marques was behind and it was up to him to slow down. He did the opposite. Why was Rossi penalized? Where is a racing line? Is it marked on a track?

rules don't tell you what you can do, just what you can't, so I can't prove either way what you are asking,

any reason no one is upset with Ianone racing Rossi hard at Phillip Island, you know because you are not ment to race the championship contenders

and here is Mike Webb explaining why Rossi got penalised

When did just.another.nickname reference Rossi in his post, he wrote "if you RUN into ME, and crash, that's all on YOU!"

You guys just like to force you own opinions as gospel and force it down peoples throat, i posted a direct response based on his post, which could fit a million different scenarios.

Here is what Webb said. But we all know now that it was Marques who turned in to Rossi. Reasoning for penalty makes no sense. If Rossi was to take out Marques front wheel, then I would agree with the reasoning , or if Rossi was to run him in to gravel. But that`s not the case.

“Valentino reacted to what he saw as provocation from Marquez and unfortunately his reaction was a manoeuvre that was against the rules. It's irresponsible riding, causing a crash. So he's been penalised for that. We believe the contact was deliberate. He says he did not want Marquez to crash, but he did want to run him wide.”

There is no rule in a rule book that says you can`t use all the track. Penalty is based on emotion or on a fact that MOTOGP is run by spaniards.

Yes, contact was deliberate, but contact was made by Marques, so it should be him getting penalty, no?

Webb's conclusion: Running someone "wide" in a race is against the rules! Got it Huh
Exactly. Total and absolute bullshit. Marques or anyone else has done it a hundred times this season, but all of the sudden you get penalized for that. It`s an absolute disgrace for MotoGP.

Name one time MM did it this season on purpose.

Emilio Alzamora had said to Rossi , that Marquez blamed him ( Rossi)for not winning the championship this year
So there is more as just that press conference .... Marquez is playing a game , would be so cool if at Valencia ll riders would miss the start so Rossi and Lorenzo would have a real battle ... Iannone is gonna take Marquez out , just to make sure Laughing Laughing

Rossi has made a statement and he is not sure if he will start at Valencia

I see five penalty points here, I just can`t decide to whom. I guess it depends on who was on a "racing line". LMFAO.

Maybe I didnt make the "purpose" part clear enough for you, Rossi stated that he purposely took him wide, that looked like hard racing to me and both going in way too FAST, doesn't mean I agree with it tho. LMFAO....

Not to mention that this is on the last lap and not at the start of a race and this is 2013... LMFAO

Anytime you take someone wide, whether you verbally say it or not, yeah... it was on "purpose" Wink I just don't get this discussion, wtf! lol
