Broc Hepler

I had the chance to team up with Broc today at the annual Team Harescramble Championship of the world action sports promotions put on. Yes it's the legit name of the race lol and there are some big name off road guys that will show up from time to time. It used to be way bigger in the hay days but it's still a blast to ride.
My buddy knows Broc pretty well, they both ride the Aces Enduros and were going to ride the afternoon pro class. Broc wanted to ride the morning session for fun to see the track and what not so my buddy josh called me and said hey you wanna ride with Hepler? How could I not.
He was as cool as I've always heard, acted like he's know me for a long time, he's just that nice of a guy. And good lord does he still haul the mail. My inner 15 year old self was on as pumped as could be. Crazy 80% of the kids at that race had no idea who he was, just shows how fast moto passes these guys names up.
I figured I would share since I see people ask about him now and again on here. Him and my buddy are about to go head to head with Cory Buttrick who's been on fire here lately and his partner Zach Klamfoth. Rains coming down so it's gonna be a good ol Ohio mud race!

Broc is awesome, he absolutely hauled the mail both indoors and out. It's plain awful that we never got to see him hit his full potential as a pro.

Oh yeah you should hear that thing sing. It definitely ranks up there with one of the cooler things I've gotten to do.

Very cool! Broc is one of those natural talent types that only comes around once a decade.
I see he's wearing 6D helmet, too.

So how did the team aspect work? How'd you guys finish?

You and your partner have to finish the race within 1 lap of each other. So if we end up doing 10 laps we both do 5, or if it's a uneven number like 7 one guy has to do 4 and the other 3. The trick is to time your laps and try to figure how close to the finish you will be with your laps. Less amount of times you switch (go through the designated pit lane and hand off the armband the rider on the track must have) the more time you save. So good sprinters usually do 2 laps a piece. With Broc he did 3 off the start and he had us a huge lead and at the switch my 15.5 FE 450 failed to fire. We lost a few minutes there. We came back to 3rd and on my second to last lap I stalled and couldn't get it to re fire.
Needless to say I was so pissed with the bike lol. It has 8 hours on it and I've had trouble with it a few times already. None of that mattered Broc laughed and said it was totally fine it was just for fun. I was bumming though, the one time I get to ride with a legend I have mechanicals. Oh well I was having a ball.

Broc is a great guy. His parents are wonderful people as well. I grew up racing amatuers with him. Never had anything for him. He's never been snotty like a lot of the super fast kids were. And his parents are just great people. Great family. Pure moto.

The pro race Corey Buttrick and Zach Klamfoth took the win. Broc pulled about a 20 second lead but his partner went down twice in the mud and lost a little over a minute and that's where it stayed. Corey has been flying lately.

Always one of my favorite riders. What I respected most about him was the way he handled his money. Things like still living at home and driving an older pick up truck after he signed some big money contracts where as some of the other kids couldn't spend it fast enough.

Besides the bike issues that is so cool and I can only imagine how fun an event like that must be. Thanks for sharing. Broc is a really good guy as far as I can tell. Miss that guy at the big show .
