That is a stock alluminum inner case hard anodized and the outter cover is the mysterious "dx" coating. This "dx" coating is more of a hammered finish krypton spray paint with matter clear over the top. If I'm correct the color is amber rose.

bead blast the case cover then hard anodize. on the clutch cover cerakote would be easiest solution. you could also bead blast it as well to take the lustre off and do it type II with a bronze color dye. but it would get worn off pretty easily. just like any anodized ignition cover does.

hard anodizing is cheap. ive got a place out in CA that has dome some stuff for me for good prices. I'd venture to say a small part like that is sub 50$

most likely motowhips is outsourcing any hardcoating, as its a bit more complex. hardcoating is high high voltage (or current, cant remember) and usually a chilled acid bath due to temps. so the equipment is more $ than type II.

well cerakote is different than powdercoat. i wouldn't recommend powder on anything really.
i have a brake master cylinder coming back from cerakote next week. i can send over a picture to show what it looks like. cant really get a thin matte looking finish with powdercoat.

I'm going to try to find someone to cover me. We currently have an issue at work that's requiring 24/7 engineering coverage so I've been stuck manning that 8am-4pm every day. It's great during the week because that's my normal work schedule but on the weekends it kind of blows.

I have a guy here in Houston who will do small parts in cerakote if you're interested in trying him out.

I have a spare cover off something he can coat or possibly some cylinders. Let me see what I have laying around and I'll have him do it.

I've got a clutch cover, ignition cover and a hub I'd like to give it a go on. I'm in Austin, so not too far.

I didnt think there was much interest in cerakote, etc. in moto. Ive been doing it for a few years at my shop. I anodize as well. Do aluminum chroming on small parts too.

The bronze look is easy to achieve in a matte.

As for durability, if it is done properly and sealed correctly, using nickel acetate as the sealing bath, it can take boot rubbing a lot longer than most anodizing out there. Cerakote is cool stuff too.

I'd like to see the finished pics as well.

I talked to my buddy about it and he said one piece at a time will cost more than multiple due to the setup time as well as it just being a hassle for him to do one small part. He doesn't make a living off doing this stuff. If a lot of people wanted stuff done all at once he could get the price down pretty cheap.

Does aluminum come out the same as magnesium? My clutch cover and ignition cover are mag, but hubs and triple clamps are aluminum. Wondering if the look would be close.

Magnesium "can" come out like aluminum, but colorfasting will happen a lot faster than alum. Colors on mag dont typically come out good. Thats why you usually see bronze or gray.

Triple clamps wont come out the same as other parts because they are cast. You can get the hubs pretty close to the clamps, enough to not tell the difference, but they will be hard to match other pieces that are billet or bar stock. Different grain structures color differently.

I am wanting to do a dull matte bronze on all of it. What's your opinion? Will it look pretty good? Can you PM me a price?

I dont touch mag. Wont machine it, wont ano it, that stuff is way too volitile. It can flash fire in a split second and when anodizing, if the rectifier isnt exactly perfect at the start, it will corrode and pit instantly.

Dtat720@yahoo.com is my contact. I dont mind doing small batches. I have 2 set ups, one for small parts in small runs and one for bigger parts in small runs. It isnt anything large scale at all. We machine pressure bleed caps for siemens that have to be gold anodized and lab equipment that is black ano. I use it for myself most of the time for my projects. Perk of owning the business with my family lol
