Over the years, it doesn't seem like too many new jumps have been introduced to SX. The wall was a cool idea and the sand sections have made some of the courses more technical as well.

If you were a track designer, what new jump ideas do you have that could replace some of the doubles, triples, and tabletops? I was thinking like a mogul section, but may be impossible to build/maintain.

If I had enough dirt, I would design something similar to what we saw at the first Utah National. Massive jump/rhythm sections that have multiple possible fast lines. Something like a massive table where you could jump up on top then jump off the top to a landing below, or you could prejump onto a shelf on the face, jump over the top, and power down the backside.

That being said, there's only so many ways to build a pile of dirt into a jump...

I think if the promoters of supercross design tracks for two main reasons A. Rider safety and B. Fan interest
That being said I think they should build a really small gap, but have a very very tall and steep landing and take off. It looks crazy and cool to the fans but still very safe. Also have some pretty sick whipsWink

Super sharp faces are safe? Did you happen to watch and of the Indy SX from the last 5 years?

The tracks from like 00-04 were cool. Split lanes, over unders, crazy rhythms. I'm sure we all remember how A3 used to be when they had the option lane deal every year

I agree, the option lanes were pretty cool, but they do eat up a lot of valuable floor space

We need more right handed 1st turns in our life. Remember Jacksonville?...carnage.

That and we need a 180 corner that has a single in it, that is parallel to it, in the middle....if that makes sense.

Well, we know one thing, anything that needs more dirt is almost definitely not going to happen.

I think they need to make a big loop-de-loop, you know, like with Hot Wheels car tracks. And it needs to have whoops in it. And maybe some fire.

In all seriousness, I don't really know what they can do that we haven't already seen at some point, given space constraints inside of a stadium. MC's event a few years ago experimented with metal ramps, but I personally wouldn't want to see SX go that route.

It's funny. Turned on the MEC yesterday, and even though I didn't think the track was necessarily great, the scale of it looked impressive at least!

Wonder how much more dirt was used?

I was watching a classic commentary race with Matthes and Ping from a 96 (I think) supercross race and they had a section that halfway through it did a dog leg to the right yet the entire section was a set of whoops. It was very cool and was interesting how the riders handled it.

I would say there was a lot in the elevated start alone, unless they built something under it out of metal/wood and just covered it with dirt.

I ran into a certain riders parents this morning at the airport (no longer will identify people to avoid the tired name dropping replies) and dad said the fast amateurs were only 2 seconds a lap off the pros. With exception of that killer sand section track was fairly simple.

All you've got to do is look at the live timing and scoring. It's not a secret. The top "amateurs" were running mid pack pro times for qualifying.

?!

There is a massive difference between bulldozing some dirt up at a venue that gets re-used, and the transportation, storage and build/remove fees associated with doing it for a SX race.

The start next year is not gonna be as bad as you think... It'll be formwork and ply with maybe half a foot of dirt laid up it to the top of the stands... It's a lot of dirt for the width/length but nothing in height... And for a one off exhibition race they suck it up.

The tracks the last few years have been smaller in scale for sure. Smaller whoops, jumps, berms etc... Not even that many obstacles and almost all rhythm sections are multiple 3 or 5 foot singles. There used to be massive tables/on/offs, multiple options, ledge corners etc...

I know people whinge about it, but peak stuff up again. That is what has changed since the late 90's/early 2000's. Everything is built to be "safe". Also, put the jumps closer to the entry and exits of the turns. That is something that also changed with the four stroke era. Doing so would achieve slower speeds and longer lap times. Which I think is what everyone wants.

The single just needs to be built up more on the inside so it comes out even in the end. OR even 3 of the from the entrance of the turn to the exit. spaced further apart on the outside than the inside.

hell you could make this like 3x bigger than a normal turn so the rider comes in leaned over and scrubs it hard asf and then lands, while still leaned over, into the 2nd part of the turn...

My track making skilz are on another level. I have been recruited by hotwheels to start their dirtwheels line.
