Hey guys, thought I would add onto this thread since there's already some CV info...

So I got to ride my forks today which were purchased off eBay. They were set up for a 180lb 450FE, Vet B rider. I'm about 155-160lb, 250FE, 30 years old c/b rider. I've attached the spec sheet from WP.

Slip recommends the .45 spring with 350cc of oil. Anything else you guys would reccomend changing based in the spec sheet. I ran the forks soft, then firm but still had about 2inch of travel left no matter which setting I was on. They felt good, but definitely had a hard mid stroke feel. I think the little spring and less oil will help?

Personally, I don't see the point in spending $ on cone valves or A kit and then NOT having them set up for your weight, abilities and bike. That makes 0 sense to me.

Hummm? That's why I'm asking for advice to get them set up correctly...

With all of the recent hype around the new KTM's and a lot of chatter about the CV being amazing, it seems most people on this board that have CV's have chosen to buy the 48mm version vice the 52mm. Is there a reason (i.e. cost, 52mm being too stiff, 52mm aren't available to the public, etc)? Anyone know the pros/cons/differences between each version? It seems the 52mm have a different coating on the lower legs (not DLC) but I've never read what coating they use (ti nitrate?).

I don't have a KTM so I'm really just curious about it. I'm currently running a spring Showa A kit on my '15 KX450F but when I upgrade to the '16 KX next year, I'd be open to the idea of slapping a cone valve/trax set up on it. Anyone have any ride comparisons from Showa A kit to WP Cone valve?
Spoke to a pro Ktm rider and he prefers the 48. Said 52 were too stiff

Quick question for you CV experts.. I get a knock feeling in whoops when the fork is rebounding out. I'm at 15-17 out. Feels good on the rest of the track. Just whoops when I push down and pull up to air into the next. I'm 3-4 clicks on the preload.

Any ideas why it's rebounding so fast in that situation?

I understand that it is a top out issue and there is a fix from WP for it. I'll have to ask for more specifics. I was told not all riders are sensitive to it. Perhaps you're riding to slow so you're aware of it.Silly Tongue Laughing

I rode my powerband racing 48mm cone valves for the first time this past weekend at swan mx during the super rough Texas pro challenge race weekend and I did not notice any top out thud, what I did notice is that my bottoming problem is GONE!!! I'm going to put together a write up with some video soon but needless to say, I would recommend them to a friend! I didn't even touch the clickers yet, no real complaints with what they are doing so far, good traction, no headshake, predictable action. . . I was working on a bucking shock and made great strides over the weekend, sooo pumped on this bike, with these forks the sky is the limit!

Cool, thanks Tim, let me know if you hear anything else about the top out knock. It's not the end of the world just wanted to make sure I'm not doing any damage. I don't think I am, just annoying. On the bright side they are feeling great!

I have 2 sets of these forks and I haven't experienced that. If it were me, I'd take them apart and test/stroke the cartridges. They should have a lot of pressure all the way to full extension, there's a top out spring in there too.
Make sure the top out spring is intact by pulling/extending the damper rod and it should give a little. When you put them back together make sure your preload is truly at zero before you screw the top back in via the adjuster, then adjust from there.

Make sure your steering stem isn't too loose.

I have some 52's in a bike 13' Ktm 125 I am currently working on. Surely they aren't as rigid as an A kit on a alluminum frame. Even on the alluminum cr 125 with 49mm a kit it wasn't as rigid as most would say once set up correctly. What would you guys that have experience with the 52mm compare them to an alluminum framed bike with an A kit. I sure hope the hype of this suspension lives up to what I read about.

Cool, thanks for the advice, I'll keep looking into it. Not a stem knock. It only happens if I preload a bump, pull up hard to get into another tranny. Not on jumps or normal acceleration or braking...

I forgot about this...One of the bolts under the handle bar that holds the bar rubber mount to the triple clamp got loose on my bike back in May and was doing something similar...

Also had an air clamp that had one of the cylinders on the bottom back out a little and had the same feeling

Yeah I saw those.. I have a couple of those in 18, 19, and 20 offsets that came with the 52's I have but I like to get either a set of the Xtrig or Neken clamps..

Mine have the black x trig with that bar mount dampener system. I can't wait to try em out. What is the best off set you have dealt with. Only thing mine being a 125 I have to ride a kinda wide bike. So I don't wanna get to much off an offset.

I called that place lovatts and they said they wont do it?

I would love to have a set but I can justify dropping that much. I had a local guy who gives me a deal price it at $2700ish. That's 3 times what my Pro Circuit stuff was and it was the bees knees. I honestly don't think the forks are that horrible but they do need some aftermarket love, just not that much. But hell, to each his own!

For those with 52mm forks, can you show your triple clamps?
I am wondering what the bar mounts are supposed to be on my set. I have only dealt with threaded TC type. The recess on the top has me confused. (See Pics Below)

Also, what axle sizes are you all running? Mine are 20mm on the small end. I got an old (2002 ish or so?) axle but haven't tested it out to see how it fits.

Mine only came with axle bolts, are the rest of the bolts Titanium from the factory? Any source on appropriate bolts? Otherwise what material should be used?

Are the fork guards standard KTM?

BTW, mine are from 2010ish KTM SuperCross rider (Phil something)

Thanks all,
Matt
P.S. These were purchased for the trick factor, I am not a fast rider, but for my bike (BMW G450X) and the deal I got it was cheaper than converting to regular 48mm WP forks.

I have the outer clutch cover that I bought brand new and had it AKADIZED, along with an ignition cover and water pump cover that are powder coated flat gray. The ignition cover and water pump cover are magnesium and won't handle the AKADIZED process. KTM has aluminum ones made for the race team that are unavailable to the public.
I'm selling all 3 for $350 SHIPPED I have more into them than that, but I just sold my bike.

So as it sits right now, I have the following parts that are not spoken for-

* NEKEN SFS clamps (bottom clamp has never been installed and top clamp has 5 hours on it) $800.00

* Hinson clutch cover in "like new" condition $100.00

* Misc Works connection "bling parts" all in "like new" condition (clutch and f.brake reservoir covers/ steering stem nut w/ hole in it for the gas hose/ clutch perch rotating clamp) $50.00

If anyone is interested in any of these parts, please email or pm me langhammx@sbcglobal.net and I'll put them aside for you.

i think youre right. its probably hard coated then done with that light acid trick to mottle the finish and remove some of it.
