I'm interviewing and testing monday with the Michigan State Police for a dispatcher opening.

The trooper I talked to said it's an old test that tests your multi-tasking skills. Sounds interesting.

Looking to try something different, and the benefits would probably be worth it.

Just remember, patience in that working environment is key.
Good luck.

Good luck with the job. I worked at a suicide hotline one time but I had a tendency to go into full-on Motodrive mode and tell them to STFU and quit whining and that didn't go over well.

people that try suicide and fail are total losers.

Well, I shouldn't kid about suicide, it's a terrible thing for the family. Sorry, that was in bad taste.

Talking about suicide like that is not funny. When a person commits suicide, the pain no longer hurts the victim but all of those left behind to deal with the tragedy. I would think with the tragic death of Marty that you guys would have some class about this.

I dispatched for a volunteer ambulance service, and then later for the 911 system.. The tests they had me do pre-employment were memory tests, basically like where they say 3 words, ask you to repeat them, and then do a bunch of other mundane quizzy type things, and then ask you the 3 words again.

I also had to do something that reminded me of a college English exam, where I had to read 3 different stories in bits and pieces, mixed together, and then summarize all 3 separately.

The job itself can be stressful, but most days it's just mildly hectic.

The ex has been a 911/fire dispatcher for 25 years.
All I know is it's very stressful and you have to type really fast.

You will be fine. If you can type here daily you are set. Only advice I can give is from being a firefighter. Follow protocol early on and all will be fine. By six months you will have the job so wired no matter how many calls you are working.

Its a very well paying job where I live. The worst part of it is the 12 hour days. In the winter they never see daylight.

If you get the job, try not to be as ignorant as the dispatchers we have in DC.
