My suggestion, at least if you have Maryland/PA style soil, DO NOT SKIM the ground to get dirt for jumps. Either you dig out centers or haul the dirt from another location. Those first couple inches are your only barrier from the mini boulders lurking beneath. Take that topsoil off and you will be kicking rocks every Damn day with no end in sight.
Think about runoff water and water speed. You want to channel the water away from jump faces and keep the runoff speed slow to keep it from digging trenches in a downpour. What was said already about building extra big is good advice. Unless your base is a good clay mix, it's going to settle and pack in. Don't even try to build whoops.

Good luck

We got a rain shower last night, perfect amount of water, its moto time!!!

This is why having a little track at home is nice. We had a track at my parents house growing up and I went a few years without one. Man did I miss it!

Looks sweet. Being an old troy guy. I think a bias gap would be fun. Basically a turning seat bounce thru a corner. Just a little booter. Those pics make me want to ride.

Looks good, I would try to find a way to move some more ground in the first pic so you have drainage and don't have a pond every time it rains. The extra dirt you remove can then be used to make more obstacles. Looks like you have great dirt to work with, jealous!

And I wouldn't worry about making "banked" berms. Let ruts/berms develop as you ride. My neighbor built a track and he scrapped all the good top soil off to make banked turns. One it wasted a lot of diesel and two I think it limits the training options for that corner as you need to ride the bank to go fast (all the good soil on the inside is gone).

Good dirt. That's nice. Once you get that track in where you like install a sprinkler system and you're golden.

best part about this land is no matter how much it rains, the ground just swallows it up, so i never really have drainage issues

iv'e actually though this over a fair bit in my head too... the track i have planned and mapped is quite long and, just for fun im only making 3 banked turns out of 15 or so, so i think it will be fine

Looks like killer soil.

I've learned a simple way to reduce track maintenance over the years. When you build your jumps, berms, landings, etc. pile up a huge rounded mount of dirt instead of a little peak.

For example, the jumps at a supercross are bare minimum, they use just a little triangle pile of dirt. As the face ruts out, pretty soon the jump is gone. If you build up a big round pile of dirt, then cut the face into it, it can wear down a long time and rut out but there's still some height and "meat" to the jump.

This also helps when you have friends over. I have some friends who don't jump everything, so they roll the face, then accelerate hard down the backside of the launches and up the front of the landings. The top and the back of the jump launch gets rutted out and the jump goes away twice as fast. The big round pile means they can roll without doing so much damage.

X2 on this for sure. I use to do all the maintaining on a deep sand track and if we made starp lips they would be gone halfway through the day.

Best advice I could give you, ride the land as you lay it out. Mark the corners with a wooden stake, keep riding. Let the turns form naturally. Nothing worse than a track that doesn't flow because it was set in stone before rode on. Ride it a while and you figure out where the jumps will need to be.

Coming right along!!! Looks good! Got to have a few jumps to flat to keep your bike control on point. Good practice for oh crap hard landing situations.

I went to another private track here in east Texas last week and wow! This guys setup is legit! He has big money in it though, still would love to have these 2 track on my property. The second track in the vid is the bigger track but we were only running the top half of it.

looks amazing. I would leave out the bowl turns as they are not needed for mx and you'll just have to keep fixing them. Pretty Jealous!

That dirt looks like chocolate, amazing! Just curious what are you using to rip it up?

Well i started out with a bike, had a general plan, marked it out, and then rode it to get the general idea making it feel natural. Then i got the bucket of the tractor, basically taking the grass away. Then i get a hoe and drag it around the track. I do this every week or so, or after a heavy rain to keep it fresh. Very simple possess.

Very nice! Glad to see you are still at it. Half the fun of having a track is building on it.
