It's hard to believe RV only has 12 450 OAs!

You would think the way everyone says he dominated Dungey, he would have RC type numbers!Shocked Laughing I noticed they didn't even mentioned him when they showed the piece on RD, they mentioned James, RC, RJ, etc....Whistling

Most dominate of this decade?! Grinning that's for you uncle.

It's true...I just checked. 12 overall wins in the open class is much lower than I assumed. Not that impressive in the big picture.

Whats the go to line for Dungy? He may not win them all.... But he finishes them in the end.... RV did it the same way. Only RV finished ahead of Dungy head to head...

If 5 more people get hurt in the gp's, RV could come back and win the championship this year :0)

Well he spent 6 years on 450's, won 3 titles... getting hurt didn't help plus I think he is better @ supercross...

True, you have to be there to win. RV's riding style was maybe perfect for the 250, maybe less for the 450, although he has also be highly successful with it. I think a bit the same about Tomac. I love watching them, it is very spectacular and so exciting, but we never know if they will finish the season.

A factor could also be that he was more focused on winning the SX championships, which is the pinnacle of the sport for most racers, and here he has much more wins.

Only won 2 450 MX titles, not 3. Should've only won 1, Dungey was robbed in 2011!Shocked Same with SX that same year.

That's why he was not that good in the GP's?

Dungey should have won 2011 MX if not for bad luck. In SX, he was the 5th fastest guy and was handed more points than he lost due to other guys battling hard for wins.

I was making the point of the Dungy fanboys. Im not a Dungy fan per se. Just pointing out to all the Dungy boys, RV got his the same way Dunge did. Finishing high and not getting injured.
And like today, there was a faster rider, the defending champ. When push came to shove, Roczen cruised and Dungy made mistakes.

I do find it a little strange that people are labelling RV the most dominant rider of the decade, despite the fact that he's actually only completed 2 seasons in this decade

only McGrath really raced and had success for decade and even that was 7 years

RC stopped competing for titles in 2006 and won his first 250 title in 2000

Did you not see the first moto where Dungey's best time was over a second faster than Roczen's? Roczen won the overall, but it's a shallow win since he split moto wins with Dungey and more importantly, gained no points. When push came to shove, they came out even.

The one where Dungy about ate shit in a washed out line trying to keep pace with Ken. 2 laps in a row. Went from less than 2 seconds behind to roughly 5. Same spot both times. Kenny took the inside, clean. Dunge took the blown out outside, lost his speed. Twice.

We were talking about overall wins correct? This thread is a slam on RV's overalls, correct?

This usually gets brought up when RV is the subject... copy & paste...
***********************************************************************************

A highlight of his 250F career, Villopoto smoked the world’s best MX racers regardless of bike, country or credential. Even his American teammates, which included Ricky Carmichael and Tim Ferry, couldn’t keep pace with the promising youth as he led a sweep of the MXoN event. Villopoto returned the following year to claim another MXoN title for the U.S. in 2008, marking his final appearance on the quarter-liter.

No, that's dominant.

Although you do dominate at the art of starting threads to take shots at RV.

Dungeys beats out RV in outdoors and RV does the same to RD indoors. I think that is a fair way to split it for the decade (so far...)

Did you watch the first moto where Dungey blew past Roczen along with Barcia, Pourcel, and plenty others within a lap and a half?

You have to take the little victories sometimes as a RD hater (no points, just a OA,)

To put it simply in the last 2 weeks 100 points are off the table and Roczen lost 3 points....big picture...

Thread was about how many overalls..... I simply stated RV won his the same way Dungy did. Finishing at the top, not always winning, but finishing at the top. Same way Roczen won it last year. All these Dungy is the man... Today was a reflection of years past, Roczen found his speed, Dungy tried to run the pace and began making mistakes when it counted the most. If it werent for a flat tire, this would have been Roczens second overall of the season.
Fact is, no one rider is more dominant than the other right now. Granted, there are only 2 legit title contenders right now, but what happens when Barcia gets his groove back? Hes been up there getting closer each week grabbing holeshots, leading races, after a pelvis injury that takes time to get over, months. Let his confidence get to 100% again.
