I was there that day, and this jump was gnarly at the time. Pichon and i were spectating together, and we were speechless afeter seeing that.

https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=WmoPVw22-FY Josh Hill at Albany motocross in Oregon. I've ridden this track back when it was shaped like this, and the vid doesn't do it justice. 5th tapped on a 250f off a big blind roller to get onto the middle of the next table. I think they put in a speedy double before the roller after this to stop kids dying trying to imitate him.

That track also had a fairly gnarly stepdown with a much taller takeoff than landing. A short, peaked out little landing before a 180 degree left, and it was a really touchy jump, like 3rdish mid range to tapped out on a 250f. Back when I rode at Albany, I was still just learning to jump and wouldn't touch it with a 10 foot pole.

Looked it up and cycle country's been tamed way down, or maybe it just looked a lot bigger when I was 15 Tongue .

That big roller-table combo Josh put together was huge, though.

Is the step down you're talking about in the center of the track? I watched some dude huck it on a 250 smoker and it looked pretty big from the grandstands

That's the one. Nowadays, it looks like it's been neutered, probably for safety reasons. And it's part of a straightaway now. It had a white railing on either side and was like a 75 ft. tabletop, but shaped like this:

except it was a gradual slope, not a step. My ASCII art sklls are only approximate. It also had a hard right hand turn after, so it'd be like 3rd gear on a 250f and a finicky takeoff--I remember you had to sort of soak it up. If you preloaded/seatbounced too much, you'd risk landing in the berm, but if you soaked it up too much, you'd risk carrying a lot of speed right into the face.

Best scenario, you'd semi-scrub it off and land about 10 feet right from a hard right turn.

Like I said, I never touched it. I was on an 01 KTM 125sx back then and I think I had heart palpitations all day. I was riding in my buddy's dad's boots because I forgot mine at home and I mindlessly followed his intermediate/A class brother off of some stuff that I had no business on.

Those were the days.
Cycle country triple got mellowed out in 2010 during the devol series. I've jumped it backwards as a step up before it was shortened and that is the funnest jump I've ever hit. Here's a pic of me going the regular direction

Ha! Cool! So if I see Pichon he might remember that?

My bike wouldn't fit in the truck afterwards. It was too long. True story.

I still can't believe nobody else did it.

There's a good chance he'll remember, he has a pretty good memory.

Thanks for the info. It's crazy how clearly I remember it even a decade later. I was riding it circa 05 or 06 and had only really just learned how to jump; my technique was awful and that jump looked impossible to me. I'd like to think that nowadays or a few years ago when I was at my best, I would have gone for it. It wasn't so much the jump that was intimidating for me, but rather the speed you had to carry into a super-tight corner after.

I always felt it was better to go too far than to come up short on almost anything peaked-out, but going too far on that jump would have been deadly. It was a back-brake tapping, super-precise jump.

Bet it was a ton of fun backwards! The only time I rode it backwards, I was still on the 125. My buddy's A-class brother was barely bouncing off the knuckle on his 250f, so maybe it was differently-shaped. It would have been a tough seatbounce on a 450 back in those days, and I don't really remember anyone clearing it then. It was right out of that super-tight corner, too.

The triple step up at Lake Sugar Tree... when I was there on an 80 it was the first thing I had ever seen like it

The Pastrana jumps at the STL SX (the year he designed the track)

The LA Supercross Paristyle

That massive jump that the guys started jumping (i don't think it was planned that way) back into the Staples center one year during SuperMoto at Xgames. It was like a massive double step up and back into the stadium

Chad Reeds crazy huck at HighPoint I think... only did it one moto (he used a whoop to up and over a real jump) (There was video of it floating around)

2009 St. Louis supercross hands down best supercross track ever designed
