12 miles offshore and you are at war. Always have been, always will be.
If you think I'm wrong, ask some old ex military guy.
One reason I dont feel good staying in high profile, luxury hotels.
Also notice, even though they keep saying they separated the American and UK citizens, there's no reports (at this time) of any of them being dead. Makes you think they were separated out not to kill them, but just the opposite. The attack may be against the Indian people/government only, and if that's the case, it may very well be a Pakistani / Indian issue...and that'd be bad
As reporting has gone on, this doesn't look like an Al Qaida style attack - Al Qaida doesn't normally round up hostages or take control of a location, and they are almost NEVER captured alive like some of these people have been (they're sometimes captured through police work like the Saudis did, but they're not usually captured in the course of an attack).
It's a big worry, though, when people use this kind of coordinated terrorist attack as a tool to achieve some kind of political objective. The more things like this happen, the less obscene they become. The more they happen, the more "legitimate" that becomes as a tactic. I know there's a danger that an Al Qaida type group could get a nuclear bomb and set it off in a US city, but I think there's a much higher danger that some kind of splinter group like this one could just get a few hundred operatives in the country and simultaneously attack shopping malls, schools, or office buildings with easily-obtained weapons.
Pit Row
This is much higher profile
IMO, this is a domestic/local issue, not an anti-Western issue
One British guest at the Taj, Rakesh Patel, was among a dozen people herded together by two heavily-armed men and taken to the hotel's upper floors.
"They were very young, like boys really, wearing jeans and T-shirts," he said.
"They said they wanted anyone with British and American passports and then they took us up the stairs. I think they wanted to take us to the roof," he said, adding that he and another hostage managed to escape on the 18th floor.
More than 100 people were killed and 300 injured when suspected Islamic militants attacked 10 sites in Mumbai.
Navy spokesman Captain Manohar Nambiar said that the ship being boarded is the MV Alpha, which had recently come to Mumbai from Karachi, Pakistan.
Nambiar says the navy has "located the ship and now we are in the process of boarding it and searching it".
He gave no other details on the ship.
