it seems yamaha sells a 300 kit through gytr those interested look at thumper talk on the yamaha 2 stroke section on the yz 250 x thread. Seems like everyone wants a 300 with big tank e start and headlights. My selfish side says hopefully yamaha doesnt take away this bike to make your bike. Ideally theres both models for sale in the future.

Tell me that when you are on a goat trail about six inches wide, on the side of a hill that's sloped about 60 degrees, bike stalled, and the kick starter is on the side facing the up-slope of the hill. You can be as macho as you want, but I can't even count the number of times I've been in that situation with my RM250 or YZ450F and wished like all hell that they had electric start. This isn't a moto bike (though electric start has a lot of benefits there as well), this thing is meant to be put through some serious crap.

That said, I really, really, really want one!!!Woohoo
HAH, BOOM!

very very well said.

Ridge and I have been in some situations where even reaching for the kickstarter would send you down the side of a cliff or into a raging river. it's not all about not wanting to waste the energy, sometimes it's that it's physically impossible to kick-start without something horrible happening.

anyone that rides gnarly offroad would agree

I like it, it's a big step in the right direction for 2 strokes. i applaud Yamaha for answering the call for more variation. I'm not going to pick it apart, I'm just stoked they are going in this direction and love that this bike is in their lineup. this bike should sell well imo
Any new Japan 2 stroke is a Huge Deal
Does anyone remember bull shit that was going around that 2 strokes would be banned by EPA by 2008 ?

I dont get it,just like the 250FX the things you really need for offroad they dont supply.
dont need a kick stand
dont need a 18" rear wheel
dont need a 5 speed

DO NEED
bigger tank
spark arrestor
WTF where is the tank and sparky????
It doesn't come with a sparky for the same reason KTM's XC line doesn't come with a sparky.

They are marketing it as a closed course off road race bike to avoid the emissions red tape (the same way KTM markets the XC line), if they put a sparky on it, they can no longer do that and have to add all the emission crap.

This bike is trying to compete with KTM's XC's...no lights, no sparky...but off road suspension (I assume the YZ has suspension valved for off road), wide ratio tranny, etc.

Im all for the luxury bro. After having an E leg, then not, then getting to ride different model KTM's regularly, I'll take the button. These guys that bitch about weight should get out of the 90's and feel the weight of lithium batteries. They are the weight of the plastic case they come in to fill the hole the manufacturers made for lead/acid types. Seriously, the weight of a bar pad. And then there is convenience when your stuck in a bad situation. I never get tired of seeing people's face when you walk up to a cold KTM on the show room floor and touch the button once and it fires to life instantly. Sells them straight away.
Now if only they could get those forks working better.

The 2016 models are supposed to be a huge step in the right direction in the fork department. (for the XC line)

I REALLY hope that they are...I've got my eye on either a 350XC or 300 XC. So I hope the suspenders are better than 2015.
