My riding buddy and I had '73 TM 400's back in the day (like, '73 & '74) We both used 5' travel Curnutts and I used a 2.5 lb flywheel weight, he had a 4 lb'er on his.

I liked that TM 400 a lot more than the '72 Yam MX 250 that preceded it.

My friend was a big, tall farm boy, strong as hell from throwing bales of hay around ,I guess. He broke tranny's and the frame on his. I was a little slower and lighter weight than him. My TM was bulletproof.

Here are a couple of pictures for you. The twin pipe had a serial number on the headstock indicating that it was a "TM". There was no "RH" in the serial number, but that is the way most people refer to this bike. It was heavy....slow and deafeningly loud. I raced it for about two years in Southern California including the Elsinore GP. I don't recall beating anyone...except the guys that fell down.





This is a more recent TM that I raced in AHRMA in the middle 90's. Similarly...it was slow (but that could have been me..) and heavy. I usually (but not always11) beat all of the guys that fell down. I do not recall anyone else running this same type of bike at that time. The bike to have in that class was the Honda CR 250.




I am presently recommissioning a 1976 Honda CR250M. Now I understand why all of those Hondas were streaming by me. Aside from the obvious...these riders were better than me...the CR is massively better. The TM does not belong on the same track as the CR.

My bad on the multiple Barnett posts dudes, That was from the old lakewood Nat'l track. Hearing a few of the boys did not like last weeks Lakewood Nat'l track! F**k that Blake Baggett taught that track a lesson on his SUZOOK !

Thanks Mike and Dyno. Love the dueling Suzuki's! I'm a Suzuki guy at heart, even though I don't own one currently. To be more acurate, I'm a '70 & 80's Suzuki lover!
