I'm starting to think that growth spurt is hurting him this season with his starts. He's a pretty big boy now. I also honestly thought he would be killing those dudes this year, maybe his speed will get there in a few races, but he's got a ways to go, to get up to Martins pace. It's frustrating to watch, he should be out front, not getting passed by Criag.

Has he ever been a good starter? Probably should be for his size...

He did ok in the amateurs, but the skill level varies greatly even between the top riders. He's no Alessi. I remember him botching up at least a start per class over the years at Loretta's.

Yea man, it is a bit frustrating, but he has been off the bike a long time.
I don't think the growth spurt is killing his starts, but I guess it's possible.

Hopefully he will he'll get up there soon.

I think he's a little better at Supercrss though.

I'm 6'1" 155 pounds and I've holeshoted or started top 3 every race I've been in. I don't think size is a problem.

Yeah, I hope he can show his true talent before the end of the year. The Martin show is getting old already.

I've also stood on the fence at lorettas and witness him get a horrible gate pick and end up on last gate on the outside and still rip a huge start... From anytime I've seen him growing up his starts were usually on point

I know its amateur level and he had the best bike no doubt but he also has start skills. It's maybe a minor lack in confidence still. That plays big with starts

how much does he weigh..?

if he's under 160 ..hes the right "size" for a 250F

People said the same thing about RC being "too small" for the big bikes..ha..he showed them

pretty soon some vitards will be saying he needs to move up to the 450s..lol

I saw him holeshot the Superminis class from the 42nd gate a LL's. So I think he can start.

Having a full factory bike at an amateur race will do that...

The PC Kawi's just don't have the jam. The KTMs and Yamaha's got them covered in the HP department

You have seen the 42nd gate at LL's? It was pretty bad that year. Maybe that's done often. Either way I found it impressive, specially after my brother had to start on the same gate the next moto.

I may or may not have been screaming that at my computer with the voice of a 13 year old girl at a Justin Bieber concert, but don't judge me, Bro!

Nobody is saying AC didn't holeshot as an amateur. He did. I'm just saying he wasn't nearly as consistent as other legendary starters given his huge equipment advantage. Alessi, who also had a huge equipment advantage as an amateur, would holeshot damn near every time and continued to do so as a pro (while he was in his prime anyway).

IMO, AC's problem is that he milked the supermini class for way too long. I know he was small for his age, but he should have hopped on a lowered 125 and raced schoolboy(even if he didn't win) instead of trying to (unfairly) race his supermini in the 125 class. The added weight of the bike would have helped him transition to full size bikes quicker. But I guess it's not easy to do when you're hauling in major sponsorship dollars and expected to be at the top of the class(no matter what).

Also, the 42nd gate at Loretta's probably wasn't all that bad for him, as he could just rail the outside with the ridiculous hp output from his works mini.

For reference, here's the 40th gate at Loretta's:
