I'm headed to Hawaii with the family in a couple weeks and I'm wondering if there's anything MX-related worth checking out on Maui. Also, I'd like to rent a street bike (perhaps dual sport) to tour the island and wondering if anyone has any info/experience in that regard.

The Harley dealer near airport rents bikes. Only Harleys from what I could see. If you're planning on off road it I STRONGLY recommend getting local advice. Hawaiians are extremely protective of their land and if you're where you shouldn't be things could go sideways real fast.
The road to Hana from Keokea along the southern shoreline is surreal!!! (Opposite of the traditional route) Fresh blacktop, hardly any traffic, beautiful views, and long sweeping curves. It's a road supermoto bikes were built for!!! I was salivating.
I worked in Wailuku (near the airport) for a couple weeks.
It's gonna be hot and humid. And it rains every day.
I"m sure you can rent anything in Lahaina where most tourists stay.
Ride up to Haleakala. We drove our rental car up there. Pretty neat.

my buddy is taking his son there in 2 weeks as a high school grad present. they have KTM dualsports rented for the entire week and the owner will be taking them on some single track on one of the last days they are there.

I strongly recommend the submarine tour out of Lahaina. It's a real deal sub that you board out in the ocean. You see it surface and everything. I've done similar submarine tours in lots of places and this was by far the best out of all of them by a mile.
If you do the road to Hana go all the way around! I repeat... Go all the way around. Some of the best scenery is along that south shoreline and I can't begin to tell you how cool that road was. I dream about it to this day and I was in an Escalade but dreaming of a single cylinder supermoto bike.
The MX track is in Puunene (sp?) off 311 and on the other side of the dragstrip at Maui Raceway Park.
Spent many weekends at Kahuku, but only went to Maui MX once for about an hour on a vacation with the wife (and no bike). And jason is right about going all the way around when you make the Hana drive. I did it in the mid '80s when the road from Hana back to the Lahaina side was gravel-awesome views!
The volcano goes up pretty high, take a damn jacket.

I've raced there like 3-4 times when I was younger. I grew up on Oahu, so our track is Kahuku, but every year the racers all over the state would travel to Maui in February, Oahu in July and Kauai in September for their big races.
On the website there's info of how you can rent a dirt bike through "MX Ventures Maui" to ride the track.
Also most Hawaii tracks are only open on weekends but looks like Maui is also open on Wednesday afternoons. Hope this helps!
gjbruny, where did your buddy rent the bikes and when are they going to be there? Not sure I'll be able to get away with both an off-road and on-road adventure but I'd like to explore my options.
bq_365, nice vid! Btw, I was at the wedding where you jumped in to deliver the ring (actually, the ring bearer). That was awesome (for a couple of great people)!
2) Leave early for Hana like no later than 9 AM but preferably earlier.
3) Tell the folks at Maui Dual Sport that The Rock sent you and ask for the locals discount which is 149 instead of 199 for a 24 hour dual sport rental including gear.
4) For renting MX bike to race put Maui in the search box and something pops up for those guys. It is around 500 bucks and they supply everything. You just show up at the track.
5) In the middle of your vacation pick a day to do nothing...just rest by the pool or whatever but don't fall into the trap of turning a vacation into a work schedule with a must do list.
6) If you plan on going to the top of Haleakala bring a WARM jacket as it is 10K feet up there
Maui Film Festival is starting soon so I would Google that to see if those dates coincide. If you drive up to Makawao or Haiku be prepared to see full on MX bikes tooling around upcountry.
Over here it is all about respecting the land and respecting the culture.
