And that does not include his sponsorship bonuses which is huge for golf. It's not as physical as MX but what he did at the end was amazing in one of the most difficult sports on earth.....way to go Ricky!
Golf is NOT a sport. It's a GAME with PLAYERS not athletes. Like baseball or checkers or lawn bowling.

Sounds like a great game for Ricky this weekend though. Stoked on what he does for Kyle and MX, so he's my guy. I hope he goes all the way and wins the title, or championship or whatever this year.

I hope this is sarcasm. Golf may not be the most physically demanding SPORT out there but to say it isn't a sport at all is insulting. You wake up on Thursday morning go hit a few hundred balls to warm up then go play 18 holes... Oh yeah and do it for 4 days in a row and then let us know how your body feels on Monday morning and see if you still think these guys aren't athletes

The most amazing finish to a golf tournoment I have ever seen. Its cool to see the announcers always bringing up moto when they talk about him as well!

Whatever you say man whatever you say. No sarcasm intended, I get how mental the game is but If you get tired or your body feels bad after swinging a club a bunch of times and walking around following a guy carrying your clubs for a couple rounds - or even worse riding in a golf cart all day long I suggest you train a little. Don't get me wrong golf seems like a great past time and social event or something to do for the elderly and idle. I'm also told that in my line of work my income would probably increase if I tried to conduct business while I golfed.....strange sport I guess.

Yup!! I could totally understand that, unless of course they have ever tried it. I've golfed plenty, as have most people I know; but I think Ricky Fowler is the exception rather than the rule regarding golfers that have ever ridden moto. I guess I just have a higher threshold than tradition in calling something a sport. I suppose you could call bowling, darts and ping pong sports too.

My 2 cents, with a disclaimer.

Seems I'm going to be the leader of the vast majority here--I am the GM of a golf course, have played for years, though not so much lately due to the demands of the gig. Even more unfortunately, I haven't been able to own a bike or ride for a number of years, but I have rediscovered my obsession with MX/SX over the past 2 years. Honestly, I have no explanation for it, but I have found myself even more immersed into the scene than I was when I was able to ride.

Anyway, a moto guy who has never been a serious golfer (which is no one) can not understand the physical demands of that SPORT. Moto is obviously incredibly demanding on high intensity endurance and physical strength, and unquestionably requires a more fit "athlete" - I don't think anyone would argue that. My only point is that you do not understand the strain put on your body by swinging the club as many times per day as these pro's do (or even high level dedicated AM's). I won't try to explain in depth as this isn't a forum for that, but on the elite level, swing torque and the amount of rounds/practice done each day create a serious physical demand - but it's vastly differed than the demands of moto.

Plus, as far as the culture of both sports, I don't know if you could find 2 more divergent than golf or mx/sx. Glad for Ricky thought, especially given the "anonymous" survey from touring PGA pro's that listed him as the most overrated, then he just shoves it right in their faces with a huge win that same week.

OK, OK - I do get it (sort of) I'm not even sure what constitutes a sport. I thought it was an activity where you could at least get injured. I suppose sore and pulled muscles would count, and could imagine swinging a club over and over all day could wear you out a bit. It is worth noting how divergent golf and moto is, and how many pro MXers enjoy it.

sometimes it's best to just give your opinion and move along. you don't view golf as a sport, you're probably in the majority, we get it.

Was stoked to see Fowler get the win.. Especially with the "over rated" storyline. Love how he stays so true to his moto roots

Going by your criteria.....Truck driving may not be the most physically demanding SPORT out there but to say it isn't a sport at all is insulting. You wake up Thursday morning drive to the gas station to warm up (and fill up) then go drive 8 hours on the highway.....oh yeah and do it for 4 days in a row and then let us know how your body feels on Monday morning and see if you think truck drivers aren't athletes.

My mother says that she's not an athlete....but if you knew how much her body aches after she's been gardening for a few hours you would understand that gardening IS A SPORT!

You ever played tiddlywinks....or mastuerbated all day for 4 days in a row?.....talk about a sport!!!

Yes Golf is a sport. You could get good at it too; just do like Tom Kite used to do and practice your approach by hitting 1000 shots a day from every 10 yards inside 100. Blink

Yeah & you could argue the same for motocross, Motocross is more athletic.

Take Tiger Woods against the GOAT when they were both in their peak of being fit.

Not even close in a fitness contest. Let's see RC @ his peak win a mountain bike race around GH 30 minutes plus 2 laps
for 2 motos.

I swear my body hurts worse after playing 18 holes than it does after riding or biking.
Golf has a way of finding any little shortcoming in regards to injuries, etc...

My big moto injuries, my ankle and wrist - with them I can barely get thru 18 holes - in a cart!

So, it is demanding and taxing on the body, for sure. At least on a previous injury.

Hate to tell you Fitz but a very small percentage of the population would consider anything a sport where the participant is carried by a machine. I used to golf but have not played in years, it is so difficult to do well it became very frustrating. I only watch a few golf tourneys a year and usually only the 4th round. I watch every MX/SX on TV. But if someone ask me which one is more of a sport I have to go with golf.

Ya'll have very strict definitions of what a "sport" is. The term sport is much broader than just being physically tough. For those saying golf isn't a sport, I couldn't disagree more. For a number of reasons.

Sport. Not a sport. Who cares. I'm sure Rickie doesn't give a damn what you wanna call it when he looks at his bank statements. I was happy for Rickie and it was awesome to see him win that tournament. He is one of the guys on tour that seems like he would be fun to kick back and drink a beer with. And he likes moto...seems ok in my book. Here's to many more tourney wins for Rickie.

LOL. OK so now we're calling my mailman an athlete? Gardening is actually 2 different sports, Indoor Gardening and Outdoor Gardening - Indoor Gardening is more technical.

Some people refer to Darts, Billiards and ballroom dancing as sports. They are probably as much of a sport as golf Wink

You watch golf like I watch other stick and ball sports. Usually around the end of the last game for the baseball championships, and then about 30 mins after the musical entertainment stops for the last football game of the year. That can be exciting some years.

Funny, I used to be so into it as a fan and spectator when I played all those sports, but as soon as I stopped playing myself not so much. Although, I did follow moto religiously though during my 15 year self imposed sabbatical, when I was too scared to race after breaking my neck.

OK, I can stretch it and agree to call golf a sport, but more of one than moto? That just really negates everything else you might say on the subject as far as I'm concerned. Which doesn't mean I'm right - just as far as I'm concerned......which really shouldn't concern you. Smile The moto thing with a machine carrying you around is hard to understand if you haven't ever raced - trail riding doesn't do it justice trust me, but I'm sure you've at least heard as much.

Et tu Peely?? Of course your right but sometimes a thread comes along that's just too good not to throw your line in.

You should see how riled up I get my friends about baseball being considered a sport, despite the fact it's actually mentioned in Websters definition of the word. Golf probably is too, I don't think masturbation is though.

Good for Fowler! I just read that article about him being over-rated, and sounds like the golf world is full of whiners, bitches, and hens.
