Do you feel obligated/entitled to know why a certain rider is fired?
Do you feel obligated/entitled to know how much riders make?
Do you feel obligated/entitled to know if a rider is injured?

If so, why? Is it really any of your business??

Would it be cool to know all of those things? Yeah sure.

Do I really give a poop? No

Yes on all accounts. We as fans are paying these guys salaries. Without fans they would be riding local tracks and working 9-5 jobs to pay for their hobby. When you are a professional athlete you should be aware that you are now in the public eye and your privacy will not be what it would be if you were Joe the plumber.

In every major sport it has been made public what a athlete signs for, when they are injured, and if they are suspended or fired you are told why. These guys want to make money like the major sports but for some reason they do not feel the need to act like professional athletes when it comes to the media

Obligated, no.It's just that every other mainstream sport puts it out in the open and MX is always so hush hush which is why I'm assuming fans get frustrated. Everyone knows what happened to A-Rod, everyone knows how much NFL teams sign new players for, everyone knows how many women Tiger Woods slept with. Yet noone knows why Milsaps was randomly fired.

My opinion: If the series wants to be more mainstream, make more money, and make it easier for teams to get sponsors etc they need to appeal to what fans want. Baseball, Football, and Basketball have learned that fans want to know what is going on with their favorite athletes on the field and want to know if someone is not performing due to injury or just under performing. I've heard everyone involved in this sport from mechanics, to media, to racers, to teams all complain about the lack of money, yet none of them want to do ANYTHING that other sports have done to increase fan interest.

The idea in the industry still seems to be that this is the product, shut the fuck up and enjoy it or leave. Unfortunately we've seen a lot of fans leave this year if the stadiums are any judge of this.

Yes, they ARE semi famous public figures, Not talking politics just making a point.

We do not need to know Joe Sixpack's yearly salary.

Joe the Plumber MADE himself a public figure when he questioned that 250k tax on small business's
That opened the door to the press checking & finding out he only made about 40k his best year.
(by the way, I don't think the press should be able to do that)

I find it amusing that the members of the biggest Moto gossip forum in the world actually do not care about any information that in other sports is made public

if the poweres that be want the sport to be as big and taken as seriously as the stick and ball sports they have to start treating it that way by disclosing the facts and realities why do you think peope can bet on nascar racing? it is because they disclose everythng and also do full tear downs looking for cheating and disclose when teams are cheating you cant take a sport seriously if everything is kept behind the secret curtain if they want the sport to be mainstream and get vegas lines on the racing which helped jump nascar to the top the sport needs to earn to be open and honst with the public and the media needs to also be honest and no fear of beig cut off. as long as this sport keeps hiding everythingthe longer the sport will be treated second rate and the longer those purses will be low and only thos at the top will make big money and those at the bottom will strugle to get to the next race you want racers tomake stick and ball money treat the sport and its teams and athletes like stick and ball team and anthetes

They are not "public figures"... they are paid to race motorcycles. They aren't a mayor, a police chief, or even a teacher!

So, should we demand to know how much Fox pays Emig too?

Where's the "I could give a crap" option? [In MX or any other sport for that matter.] Because non of it really matters, it's all just entertainment to us. Of course some people find needing to know all that shit "entertaining" I guess.

The sense of entitlement that many people have to day is impressive.

I enjoy the racing on the track.

Off the track, I don't give a fuck about any of them or their personal life bar 2 riders as I don't know them.

I believe contemporary media has the permission to divulge way too much information that should be kept private. Hell, if it were up to the media, they would have someone in war zones attending vital strategy meetings and report this for everyone, including the enemy to know. They snoop and often interfere into matters that I don't feel the general public has the right to know. They already have more privelages than they should imo.

With that said, because this is a foregone conclusion and the media is allowed to divulge salaries, contract terms, terminations, etc. of other mainstream sports, they should be allowed to do the same in any sport. *Read the first part of my statement. I don't like or agree with this, but because that precedent has been set, it should be allowed in all sports.

Decades ago, the media intentionally withheld information on our most famous athletes because they were icons. Read the history and character of Babe Ruth. Now the media does everything possible to tear down our athletes. Too much awareness imo.

Valid point, I guess MXA & Cycle News don't care, probably find out in ballpark figures on Emig.

I know how much John Gruden gets paid for Monday Night Football.

This is a pretty good read.... http://motocrossactionmag.com/home-page/you-asked-for-it-how-much-does-…

This^^^

I do not lose sleep over what riders income are, but it would be cool to know. Part of the allure to professional sports is getting that pay day and making the big bucks. So as a young kid or a fan it adds to the dream of being a professional athlete. It's all about dreaming.

These opinions are a stretch but...
-Maybe salaries go up because the sponsor is embarrassed of how little they are paying their riders. They know the public is judging them and gives their business a negative vibe.
-Maybe it shows how little some riders make and it influences that kid to stay in school.
-Casual fans would correlate incomes to being the best rider. This would allow casual fans to get intrigued and drive more $$$ to the industry.

The most frustrating part about sx/mx is the lack of transparency. When something goes down it is very hush hush and only the insiders know the story. Reminds me of a high school clique when compared to mainstream sports.

Who cares how much John Gruden makes? I think the only time somebody's salary should be made 'public' is when they are paid with public funds.

It's funny how people have no problems with athletes making 10's of millions, movie stars/singers making 100's of millions...but if a CEO makes 2.5 million, he's an overpaid asshole.

The American drones are f'ed!

Uh, the teams put out "press releases"... does that normally happen with people who aren't "public figures"?

Personally, I could care less but without "fans", these guys would be out of job so releasing information about injuries and such seems like part of the deal to me.

It's funny......guys spend years, grinding, practicing, getting hurt, forsaking family and friends, to get to the top of the game.
For what?
Purely the money?
If you say so, I don't believe it.
The recognition , the stature, the fame, that all plays into it.
In the beginning, anyway.
But when many finally do grab the brass ring, it seems easy to get tired of it, hell, annoyed with it.
So they turn on the very thing they thought they wanted.

Do I feel obligated to know what's up in a guys life?
Nope.
Do I feel entitled?
He'll no.

But it's a shallow human being that forgets where he came from, and what it was like, before he "made it".

Of course you do GuyB. If you want to have a private life, dont be a highly paid entertainer. If you make money by getting your mug on tv, dont get your panties in a bunch about people wanting more.

The info that does get released in this industry is often sanitized BS. So if you think you are entitled to the info or not is irrelevant, you wont hear the truth anyway.
