Anyone here have a wife/gf who had breast cancer?

Wife found a lump two days ago. Got a mammogram today. Don't know yet, but just the possibility is ripping me apart from the inside, and I'm sure she can think of little else and is as freaked as I am.


That said, how'd things work out? What were things you'd advise to watch out for (like shortcomings from the docs, etc.)?

X2..i have read alot about it..zinc,selenium and fresh greens are just some things for breasts..it may just be a lump thats benign

Best wishes for sure! My Grandma had breast cancer at age 62, she is turning 89 on xmas eve and going strong. Hopefully your wife just has a mass, and its not cancerous. But if so, it is very beatable! Good luck to you guys.

About 9 months ago, my wife found a lump and went through the whole process.

What my wife had was called a "phylodes tumor," and while the word "tumor" is scary, it's not a cancerous thing.

Best we understood it, it was a mammary version of a lymph node....or some shit like that.

She actually had two, both small, about the size of a pea.

She had them surgically removed (general anesthesia) and they keep an eye on her for the next year or so for re-occurrence. If not removed, they can become cancerous.


My point is, it can be other things than cancer, and I most certainly hope it is for her.

Thank you for your kind words and wishes. After we get the results, I'll pass them along. I'm afraid of talking about it to the wife, as she doesn't bring it up, and I think she is behaving that way because she doesn't want to think about it...who the hell can blame her.

Thanks too for the info. The reason why I asked is because my wife went through severe post partum depression just after the birth of my son, both of us were completely ignorant about the condition, we listened to the first psychiatrist we saw, and her advice was exactly what a person with depression should not do. I'm trying to avoid a repeat by educating myself and tapping off the experience of others. Those of you who've been through it already are much smarter than I.

My wife had a lump in her breast last year that turned out to be noncancerous. My mother in law is a breast cancer survivor and has been cancer free for almost 30 years. She is 87 now.

I know it’s tough but stay positive because it could be nothing.

I'm glad you took it that way. I debated with myself about posting something like that. I was going to say the same thing...you better make sure that YOU do exams EVERY DAY!!! Plus, tell her that daily "protein injections" will help too...

My best wishes. I can actually related to both you and your wife. I just went through the same thing. I found a lump in both breasts a few weeks ago. I have both a mammogram and an ultrasound. Because breast cancer runs in my family it really scared me to death. As it turns out, it was just fibrocystics. In turns means I have to really watch what I drink. Meaning I have to cut back on my caffeine. Also, I have watch them and make sure the lumps do not get any bigger. If they do then I will have to have them surgically removed. The hardest part of all of this was my husband got a transfer at his job and was in Indiana when all of this was going on.

My thoughts and prayers are with both you and your wife.

damn...that is a tough sell. life is way more important than boobs though. great luck to her and you.

Good luck John. Stereotactic Biopsy is the gold standard as it precisely locates the lesion and samples can be taken from different locations to determine the nature of what you are dealing with.

My Mom just got done with radiation about 3 weeks ago. So far, she's doing pretty good.

My mother was diagnosed about 6 years ago with cancer in both breasts as well as cervical cancer. She's healthy as horse today and going strong. It was a tough fight, but she's a tough old broad and kicked it's ass.

my wife had a mamogram recentley and was told she had a suspicious lump.It turned out to be nothing. I hope you two get to tell the same story as we did!!!

A good friend of mine spent the better part of 06 and 07 fighting it and won. She found her lump just 3 months after a negative mammogram. It really changes your perspective when hits close to home. I always bug my sisters and my mom to get regular exams hey at least they don't get a finger a rear when they gey checked Shocked
