It takes a special person to be a living organ donor. Thank you for your gift of LIFE.

So, maybe I missed it in the report, but if you still have good function in your one remaining kidney, why quit racing? Is she just being careful? (Not a bad idea, I guess.)

Didn't Milsaps lose a Kidney a few years back? It's awesome what that girl is doing and seeing how bad dialysis is I probably wouldn't take the chance anymore either. Milsaps is a different story, he makes his living racing so I can see how it's worth it to him.

I was born with one kidney and never had Any problems riding a dirtbike. The only risk you take is that you only have one so if you have à bad crash and your kidney get's hurt you have à problem.

I had a friend who was born with one and raced. yeah, you can do it, like VB188 said he does, but it's not ideal. I guess you are more prone to fatigue, heat injury, etc in extreme conditions.

From watching the video, I kinda surmised that the lady has been racing a while and it's not really worth it for her personally to risk continuing with 1 kidney.

We're constantly riding in the heat also. In the chance of severe dehydration, your kidneys shut down and they don't always start back up.

I have a buddy with only one kidney and he doesn't let it slow him down but it's a little more risky. With all of the risk in the sport, I'm worried about my kidneys the least, but they're still at risk when you ride.

Very cool for someone to show that level of selflessness.

i was going to give my good friend Margret Belmore a kidney in 2003, its quite a process to give one up and the dr said i would be fine but didnt recomend ridding, although i was going to anyway, sadly she passed while in the hospital waiting for the opperation, to switch it out, i didnt really think it was a big deal, it was for my friend, and i came with two of them, but they told me its pretty hard on the donor, so i understand not ridding after

All i can say if you are thinking about donating a kidney it is a very noble thing and can breathe a new life into a person who needs it! I should know seeing as a have a 52 year old transplant kidney in me going strong! I live a healthy lifestyle and have been riding motocross for a solid 4 years now no problems. Anything is possible. You cant stop living just for the fear of what could happen! I could sit around in a bubble all day unhappy and get food poisoning and lose the kidney because the strength antirejection meditations lowers my immune system or find something i love to do and live life to the fullest and tackle everything a day at a time! Life is great! Blessings to anybody willing to sacrifice for a family member or friend you are cherished...

The link is not working to the story but that is awesome that she gave up a kidney.

However, you only need 1/2 of one kidney to be fully functioning and not need dialysis. I was diagnosed with kidney cancer about 6 years ago and had most of my left kidney removed and that is when I was told the 1/2 of 1 kidney thing. I still race moto and run competitively in cross country and road races (5k- marathon).
