I feel sorry for the quad guys because you know, they love it and even the MXers don't want them around.

That said they (quads) are dangerous to the riders of said quads and to MXers that they share the track with. They also really do screw up the tracks badly.

So with way more dirt bikes than quad riders the track owners really have to pick a side.

Also, everytime I knew someone that hopped on a borrowed quad they usually ended up in the hospital that day.

Yeah, especially when the quad killed that kid a few years ago by running him over. If you asked the Leach's, I bet they'd admit that letting quads ride in the BTH class was not one of their smartest moves. Especially since the result was that a teenage motorcycle rider was killed by that stupid decision. That was a very stupid move by the Leach's to let that happen. It is not opinion that MX bikes are wildly more popular than quads. How many MX guys are on Quad sites right now trying to compare bikes to Quads? How many top Quad racers are household names? Tell me about the National indoor and outdoor Quad series? You can't even compare. I do appreciate the passion of Quad dues though, they think it's the shit even when faced with the facts....
Who is saying top quad riders have to be household names? Who says the quad nationals must be as popular as the bike nationals. Everyone knows they are not.

It's like there is some strange inferiority complex and bike riders must scramble to their keyboards and type that quad riders are gay as they nervously laugh. I don't get it. No one comes up to me at the track calls me gay. Like someone stated, they just say I'm crazy for racing a quad. But here in the Internet world everyone is safe and sound at their computers. Lol. Idiots.

I used to do quad MX years ago and had a full Walsh/PEP, powered by a '03 YZ450 destroked to a 440cc TC National motor. The Walsh chassis are incredible. Crazy money though, I think I had around $16k in that thing.

Stop. He's a bad ass like everyone on here that "rides" a bike. They're all pretty much RV2.

I'd also like to add that I don't think riding quads is "gay" as so many like to say. Frankly it looks way more sketchy than riding a dirt bike. It's pretty macho really to risk life and limb like that. Also a bit stupid imo.

My parents who have ZERO motorcycle/ quad experience and are in their 60s decided they wanted to buy quads a few years back. I begged them to buy very lightweight simple quads and of course wear helmets. Well after I begged them to buy low seat height trail bikes instead. They bought a pair of V2 4x4 800# quads and added every accessory to them adding another 150#. They also didn't want to buy helmets cause they viewed their large quads as sort of like cars that didn't need them. I BEGGED and got my stepmom to buy a helmet on the grounds that the dust from Dad's quad in front of her wouldn't get in her eyes, my Dad refused.

My stepmom rolled hers about 20 minutes into her first ride and pulverized her knee and hit her head square on a rock. I mean nothing left of this knee except a shattered skin bag of bones. She is now fine and that was the first and last time those farming quads were ever ridden by them.

I know talking MX quads isn't the same thing but the general public views quads as 'safe' because they kind of look like cars where-as a motorcycle might fall over. But quads are some seriously dangerous shit imo and a trail bike is just way safer.

Actually he started on quads (LT250 Suzuki with an RM80 engine), then, like a couple of us (me, Eichner, DiBrino), road bikes and quads at the same time, and then eventually focused on quads. He and Eichner kept racing much longer than the rest of us.
Kory was my nemesis for 2 years racing 125s in the winter series at Woodland. He raced both quads and 125s then (1990-1991-ish).

Inferiority complex?? That's an interesting take lol. Household name? The purpose of that example is to show that for something to be wildly popular and have well known heroes it must be relatively fun and exciting to do and watch. Which it must be lacking as evidenced by the fact that not many people are into it or follow it. It's a tiny subculture at best. In fact, the general public likens quad riders to beer swilling forest trashing rednecks(not gays). Motocross riders probably do that (call them gays) because most guys got started on quads because they were afraid to ride a two wheeler when they were kids.I know several friends that did this, they tried to ride a dirt bike and were terrified, then they moved to the easier to ride quad. Therefore in our eyes they were pussies or gay... Before the PC police came along American boys would call their friends gay if they couldn't wouldn't do something the rest could. When I puss out on a triple or big jump I take it like a man and admit I'm a pussy for not doing it. No big deal...There isn't a National series because there aren't enough participants due to lack of interest. Otherwise there would be a televised quad series with well known athletes backed by sponsorship money. As I said before, to each his own, I hold nothing against Quad riders and could care less if they exist or not. I just don't want them on the fucking track ruining it when I pay money for a prepped track that was designed for motorcycles to be ridden on it. BTW the few friends I know that ride quads catch shit from me all the time. I just texted the gay meme above to one of them Smile I usually never see quad riders that I don't know because I don't got to practices or races where they are allowed. I just don't want them on the fucking track ruining the ruts when I pay money for a prepped track. Yes, it is my opinion that they are silly and have no place in moto and again you quad riders are on Vital MX not Vital QuadX talking up quads, you will never get anywhere with that. Now head on over to Vital QuadX already... oh that's right? It doesn't exist.....

But alas, there is a quad Nationals series. You fail.

Does every fun and exciting motosport have well known heroes? You fail again.

And I'm sure your local track is prepping it just for YOU as we speak, so you can rip it up with blistering speed never before seen. All the kiddies on the CRF50's will be lining the fence to give you a high five as you exit the track. Third time's a charm.

Getting way off topic for this thread, but I disagree that quads are inherently more dangerous than a motorcycle. If anything, they are safer. BUT that is contingent on them being treated with respect and riding within ones skill limits, helmets being worn, etc. IME, the type of accidents and injuries could be grouped by mx, where quads generally crash less, due to not falling over in corners (thus have fewer knee/leg/ankle injuries), but arguably crash worse when they do crash, farm/utility type crashes, where inexperience, overconfidence, or poor risk assessment bites the user, and drunk/stupic rednecks, where they were probably going to crash on whatever they got on to. And yes, there's probably a point where a redneck is too drunk to balance on a motorcycle, but can still get on a quad.

Street bikes are the most dangerous of all, IMO.

If it makes you feel better to try and belittle me then good for you bud. If you think I'm slow ,come on out to the track and I'll show you how slow I am. You can even ride your Quadzilla as long as you take the snowplow and mower deck off for the race.....

I don't have a Quadzilla, I have a quad with a chassis built by Doug Roll and a quad with a chassis built by Mike Walsh. No Quadzilla's, no snow plows, no mower decks.

But yes, it would be fun to spin some laps on an MX track with you.

You'd have really hated when a few of rode the before the hill class at Albany on quads - with the motorcycles.

From riding both, the only tracks I've ridden in the NW where it seemed to me quads could really mess up lines would be Washougal (edit: and Woodland). Albany didn't develop ruts to start with (but haven't been there for years), nor did Eugene.

I don't agree with what ACB is saying here. I personally hate riding Albany ( or any track ) after the quads have been on it. I just rode an Albany late last fall and there were 5 quad guys there. After a 15min session , the track was pretty much wasted for the rest of the day for the bikes. It is why a lot of my friends don't head down there any more. They gained 5 quad riders and probably lost 30 bike riders.

What they need to do ( and maybe it sounds selfish ) but do what Woodland does.....and that's let the quads have the track at the end of the day to tear it up all they want. And maybe some quad guys don't see or understand this.....but if you are on a bike , then you will.

No worries, the internet was made for disagreeing!

Anyway, I only own motorcycles these days and only do a little bit of offroad events, so bikes only is fine by me these days.

I hear ya brother. I don't bag on guys who ride / race quads......I just don't care for sharing the track with them. Gets a little sketchy for me. If someone enjoys it though , more power to them.

You pay money for a prepped track? Its really too bad mx has so many fags like you. Mx used to be real men. Real men would pay extra for the gnarliest track they could find. Pansie asses like you have no business talking shit about others,

Down in Georgia in 2000 with a buddy from Michigan, at Donny Banks track. Some guy showed up in a Chev Kodiak, completely done up, living in it, and 2 quads in it. Donny was telling us about him as he was rolling in, and we spoke with him a bit, before he started to ride. Apparently a National Pro, rides the circuit, spends all winter down south, to be ready for the series, a regular at the Blackwater 100, I think.

We're sitting there taking a break from riding, and the guy heads out to the main track, and starts hauling ASS. I can't recall how big the step up double was, that was cut out of the side of a hill, if memory serves, but it was big. Neither of us were doing it, and my homey is a far better jumper than I, so it was big enough. First lap, the kid launches this thing, clears it by a huge margin. The two of us are just speechless, then look at each other, laughing. The track that day was completely dried out, and hammered from a race, and rough as hell. We were riding fairly conservatively, not willing to risk road rash, from a get off on sun baked Georgia red clay. Again, didn't seem to bother this guy, just tearing it up. We were in Wayne and Garth mode that day.

At that time, I had no opinion either way on quads or their owners, since I'd never dealt with them much. This guy had my respect, because he was the real deal. I've since had the opportunity to share the track with quads, and it's never a good time, especially on sand. I don't hate quads, or their riders, but bikes and quads on the same track, at the same time, are just not a good mix. It's a shame people take the interwebs so serious, I didn't even realize we weren't supposed to dislike quads, until I got on Vital. Hey, shouldn't there be a Canadian Quad Pro in here, telling us how cool quads are?

It's like there is some strange inferiority complex and bike riders must scramble to their keyboards and type that quad riders are gay as they nervously laugh. I don't get it. No one comes up to me at the track calls me gay. Like someone stated, they just say I'm crazy for racing a quad. But here in the Internet world everyone is safe and sound at their computers. Lol. You seem to be clueless on the matter. DS56 just so happens to have won the Vet A class a couple years ago at the Washougal vet national. On a 250F mind you....against a bunch of 450's.

Before you start calling someone a " fag "....maybe try to find out a little more about them. And hey genius........ALL us bike riders pay for prepped tracks when we hit the practice days! It's part of the deal. Gets rougher as the days go on.........just like the fucking races you watch on TV.

Get your ducks in a row before saying something as stupid as what you just said please.

If it makes you feel better to try and belittle me then good for you bud. If you think I'm slow ,come on out to the track and I'll show you how slow I am. You can even ride your Quadzilla as long as you take the snowplow and mower deck off for the race.....
It kinda hurts to admit this but I won a Salem AX championship in 1996..............In the Quad INT class................I had a guy bring one up to track a few years ago and could barley make it around my track. Fun in the dunes, though.................

Exactly, I love rough, rutted tracks, not pool table smooth corners and straights like the ones that quads leave. Quads smooth everything out like a good piece of farm equipment should. Thanks for supporting my point. BTW it doesn't offend me when you butthurt quad dudes Talk shit to me Smile lol I actually find it hilarious...
Oh, and here's one more for you quad gods Smile
