Same here. My 15 y/o is a guitar fanatic. But I know very little about them. I know a Gibson Les Paul is $2,500 ish and his Epiphone Les Paul is more like $500. He want's a '59 Les Paul now. I want a factory KTM too.

In our house are an Epiphone Les Paul he's tweaked up with better pick-ups, a Mini-Strat he used to learn on and my 8 y/o has taken over, a Fernandez Nomad a good friend of mine gave him to spark the interest, and a Takamini Elec/Accoustic. None of which I can play.

I hear you. My Les Paul sits in the case. I play the el cheapo MIM Strat. I like playing it because of the sound. The Paul is a reissue of the '54 Fretless Wonder. The action is unbelievable. I just like playing the Strat.

One of our old bass players had one of the Gibson rippers, fell on it one night and broke the neck.LOL Did have it repaired for some ungodly price as i remember.

Gibson guitars are famous for broken headstocks. The truss rod adjustment at the headstock requires quite a bit of wood to be removed, this coupled with one piece necks and the resultant short grain at the headstock to neck juncture means that even a relatively innocent seeming "fall over" often means a broken headstock. Lot's of repair shops love Gibson for this. Most luthiers building acoustic or electrics with the truss rod adjustment at the headstock get around this problem by making laminated necks, often with graphite reinforcement. Obviously more time consuming and expensive than making a one piece neck. Nice Ripper though. Wish it was mine.

It works well on anything that requires a solid humbucker sound. When I first got it I played it as a 10 string exclusively. Here's a pic of my "Trio of Bichs". The outside 2 are BC Rich "Son of Rich" Bichs. Those were made in the Charvel factory btw.
