I bought my son a CRF50 as a Christmas gift. I am now shopping for a helmet. Any advice on what brand to use?

One that fits your son well. Make sure it does not slide around on his head, it should be tight enought that it pulls his scalp when you try to move it on his head. I would try some on till one fits well.
Do not buy a helmet without him present trying it on for size.

Make sure it fits nice and snug and it's not too heavy for his head.

I see too many kids on the mini track that look like bobble heads.

My son has a Thor quadrant I think..

My son started out in an HJC. I wasn't too keen on it but all the other kids on the track at 4-6 years old looked like bobble heads. Their helmets just didn't match their frames. The HJC fit him well and wasn't so heavy he couldn't hold his head steady. He was about 40 lbs when he started riding on the track. Now, at 9 y/o, he's a whopping 53 lbs.

He's a small kid but last Christmas we did some looking around. I found the Fly Trophy kids helmet. It looks very much like a Shoei. I'm not sure, but they look so much alike I could believe they might be made in the same factory. There are only a few factories that make motocross helmets. Anyway, we've been very pleased with the Fly Trophy kids helmets. They are well padded, not too heavy, and have held up very well.

After I narrow down the selections to a few good ones, I let my kids choose their helmet from those. If they have some input in the choice and they like how it looks and feels, they will appriciate it more.

Definitely go for something that fits his head right and is light.

Like Shenzi mentioned the new One Industries Raider might be worth looking into. It was specifically designed for the little guys and looks pretty darn good too.

we have had great success with the Fox kids and HJC kids helmets. The important thing is make sure it fits now!!

Children shouldn't grow into safety gear.

Bell makes some quality kid helmets at a reasonable price of 79-89 dollars. The helmet shell is one size, so you can buy different size cheek pads so your son can grow with the helmet alittle bit. Great styles too, they offer the manic paint scheme on the youth lids. Pretty awesome design.

My daughter started with an HJC, now she is in a M2R. they fit noce, but she is growing so fast I am going to look at the ONE helmet since I like the couple I have, seems to be a nice brain bucket for the little one. And if I can stop her from pickign girl colors I can hand them down to the boy-child

My kid wears Shoei helmets. Don't scrimp on the quality. My first two choices would be Shoei and Arai. We've tried others and have always come back to Shoei.
