About one year ago, I said the same thing.
I never thought Obama would get this far and I never thought the American public would let him, based solely on his being Black.

I am happy to say I was wrong.
If he wins, it'll be a big step in race relations in the Nation

I never gave it a second thought.
The closer the election got, and the more the Republicans started spewing hate, I found out that maybe we hadn't came as far as I thought.
Kinda sad

Ready or not, tune in tomorrow.

I think it's cool. Turning things upside down is fun.

Even if I really disagreed with Obama's politics, like if he were to the right of Condi or something, I would still think it's cool.

I hope he has Chris Rock at the Inauguration.

Dave, you're right that it would be a huge step. If he does win, I hope things do get better in that department.

The problem is that there are way too many closet racists out there right now. It's a sad situation we're in when it comes down to it.

You can't do anything about the crazies.

It's a huge step forward overall. The righties should be the happiest ones - but they are whining the most? WTF? Here's living proof of anyone can do it, just what they always say.

Assuming Obama wins, he's going to give a lot of people a good feeling about government that had turned their back on it and given up. Both parties will take notice by the next election and adjust. Things will change, Obama doesn't have to do much but be there.

As sad as it is, I don't even know what the terms righties and lefties mean.

After the gloating ,pompous by him and congress ,they'll screw it up even worse by just being there. And then forget the Reps.

heres some more
Barack Obama has consistently sought to distance himself from former domestic terrorist Bill Ayers. But it’s a different story with another student radical from the 1960s — Marilyn Katz — who is actually on Obama’s fundraising team.

Katz, a public relations executive in Chicago, serves on Obama’s national finance committee. She is listed as a fundraising “bundler” on his Web site, has hosted fundraisers for the candidate, and attended the Democratic Convention as part of the Illinois delegation.

But during the violent protests of the 1968 Democratic National Convention in Chicago, Katz was the security chief for the radical Students for a Democratic Society (SDS), which spawned Ayers and the Weather Underground

And there always will be, just like there will always be sexists, republicanists, democratists, etc. There will always be people who "hate" whoever gets elected. America is as ready as it will ever be for a black president, a woman president, or any other qualified natural born citizen 35 years or older who is able to garner the majority of electoral votes.

Need we point out the relationship between Ayers and McCain again?

You guys should have learned by now - at a time when America faces so many challenges, the fact that you idiots try to make the election about small, irrelevant things just infuriates any serious person. And, for the record, as a domestic terrorist and subhuman lunatic, Bill Ayers is nothing compared to G. Gordon Liddy, who is a good friend of John McCain. And how about Eric Rudolph, whose abortion clinic bombings wouldn't even be a federal crime if McCain's votes carried the day on legislation to make them so? Apparently, the difference between a domestic terrorist and a patriot isn't their actions, it's their targets.

McCain has a much thicker layer of slime than Obama has. But so what? Who's going to move America forward? McCain doesn't even have a plan to do it.

A president Obama will do more harm than good to race relations. I would be fine with a moderate democrat African American president, or better yet a Michael Steele or JC Watts. But Obama, the most radical leftist to ever run for the office of president will set race relations and black politicians back 30 years. Go ahead and call me a racist if you want, I don't have a racist bone in my body but feel free.

Even if you view each candidate as roughly equal, in one fell swoop BO instantly improves America's image around the world. That should translate into some forms of goodwill on a number of fronts ... at least until his policy-making and diplomacy can make some sort of mark.

The same would simply not be achievable with McCain.

I don't think it will have any effect on race relations. It might even get worse. If Obama wins, which seems likely, it will be because the economy has taken a really nasty turn. If it wasn't for that, he would lose because he's a liberal Democrat and this country has just never had an appetite for that. I'm right in the middle of reading a book called "Just how stupid are we" and collectively we are PFS when it comes to elections most aspects of public policy, economics and general civics. It's really obvious by the people we put in power. I wish there was a test attached to the ballot and if the person failed the test, the ballot is tossed. According to the book, 50 to 60 % of the ballots would be tossed. I'm really sick of my vote being canceled by some idiot who voted because somebody gave him a dollar.

Do you think he could just be president but not let him do the policy thing?

That's pretty much the situation for both candidates given the mess we're in. Neither of them will be able to implement even a fraction of what they have proposed unless some financial miracle occurs.

Branding is all that matters in this country. Most people never put their nose under the tent before making a decision. And they never taskmaster the promises. Instead they just tee up the blame if something goes wrong, never digging into the real reasons shit has gone bad. Too much work. Far easier to let a talking head on TV tell me what I should care about.

And we're doomed to whipsaw the pendulum in ever-widening enchantment-disappointment-revolt arcs as long as that remains true.

You could have had Hillary, she just missed out...she dodged a bullet actually. Being pres over the next few years will destroy them. Why not a black Prez?...sounds like a typical Hollywood movie plot, the black dude gets it first.
