A couple of geezers are thinking about driving south from Iowa for Saturday practice and Sunday race. Weather forecast looks great!

We are camping at the track. Plan to throw a couple of wrenches into the 40+ and 50+ classes. One fast guy and I will run sweep.

Thoughts and advice? I am planning to pry on a new rear tire, in time.

Jay- no the other rider is Chumbley, who I don't think you have met. Mark is still recovering from crash damage that happened four weeks ago. He has still been racing through it, for points, but has doubts about going that far when he still hurts. He is invited and may end of joining us.

Yep on the 756.

Huge but very safe jumps, horsepower track, windy, RED soil (don't wear white gear) lots of elevation changes. Super fun place. Take food for practice day the last time we were there they had no consessions on practice day. It is worth the drive. Have fun!

Funny about the soil color...I have packed my set of red and set of orange/gray Answer gear (no white) just for the sandy/clayLaughing

Thanks!

Have you ever been there? I didn't say huge GAPS I said huge jumps (size wise).

Keep in mind, if you go just a little bit faster you'd clear the jumps instead of casing them and you wouldn't get so tired!

Have a fun and safe trip.

Yes, I was there a less than a month ago. It's one of my favorite tracks that I've ever ridden.

I'd say the longest jump there is 60 feet tough.

A couple years ago...the jumps were huge. The step-up used to be over 75 feet and that middle table top in the back was close to 100. It's not that way now..

My husband is leading the series in the +50 class. Those are a great bunch of guys in that class. I won't be able to go this weekend because I have to work another race at Hallett. Would like to meet you. The track will be shortned some for this weekend because of DST. They have had to cut laps the last 2 races because of running out of daylight. It really shouldn't take that long to run that race but , it is fun

I rode there in '06, and it's my favorite track. Absolutely huuuuuge jumps, the last table (was a triple/tabletop mix) seemed like it shot me 50 feet up, didn't do the uphill triple they had then though, but it looked to be around or a hair over 100' if my memory serves me.

Yeah, the track runs in the opposite direction now...except for the uphill triple. It's almost TOO easy now. I think most novice riders jump it. Like I said...it's only a little of 50 feet and it is A LOT more forgiving. The HUUUUGGGEEEE table in the back (which is the first one now) is only around 40 feet, then the next is probably around 60, then a little single, and then a single to table that is around 55 feet.

Look for a #446 (or maybe it was 466, or I think he said 464....I dunno) YZ250 in the +30A class. Ol' Eddie Throckmorton is coming back!

Great. The more the merrier! The age classess are getting bigger and bigger. The +40 at the Cooperland series is almost as big and the 125 Novice class. The +50 class has been having between 7-12 riders in this series alone. The state series usually has a dozen or more +50 riders

Highsider, how did you guys do in the race on Sunday? How did you like the track and how did it compare to the tracks in Iowa? I was the guy chatting with you on the line before the last practice session Saturday.

Thanks for asking. Yes, my buddy Chumbley and I raced 40+ and 50+ . Funniest thing was my first gate drop (50+) and I got knocked over and pinned in the muddy start corner, by the guy who says he "always" gets the hole shot! My hot pipe burned his pants! While our bikes were locked together and we could not get up, I said "This ISN'T going to help me in this moto" haha. Meanwhile Chumbley had the start and easily won the moto. Second 50+ I led for one lap until I did a high speed two-wheel drift in that same muddy start corner and fell...ended 3rd OA out of nine riders.

40+ i was 9th out of 17 riders. Chumbley got two fifths for a 6th overall and felt he should have been third, if things had gone better.

Cooperland needs to put a MOTOCROSSER in the water truck! I think they would know NOT to water the start and first turn as we sit on the line, ready to race.Tongue

Love the dirt and the track has a good "flow" to it. I was doing all the obstacles and had a great time!

I haven't been there since 04, with the track going the other direction do you turn right off the start directly onto that off camber that followed the finish line?

Yes, and now the finish line is what used to be the "first" tabletop after the original start left/right/up over and is now the third table in that sequence, going in the new direction.

40 bikes barreling into that off camber would seem like bad news and wasn't that area of the track quite narrow? Or did they change it up some?

LOL about the watertruck.

It sounds like the watertruck operator is getting better... at least he was watering while you were watching! A few weeks ago someone decided to water the back section during practice. The first lap was dusty. The next lap was mud. Cooperland is one of the few tracks around here where the watertruck can hide and water.
