I stupidly posted this in Non-Moto-I meant it to be here, sorry .

Has anyone got a recommendation for or experience with scoring systems? The recreation association I work with will be looking to buy a system fairly soon. We want one that can be used for motorsports (bikes, atvs, utvs and snowmobiles), MTB and road bike events and running/skiing/cross country races.

Does anyone have experience with those "tag" scorers? They seem the most versatile and have a reasonable cost. If we had a system that could work off tablets that would be ideal.

Let me know what you think

It was awhile back but there was a thread or two on this subject with some really good information. Search on transponders and for timing systems or scoring systems in Forums. Good luck!

BTW look forward to having this functionality integrated with OEM motorcycles some day. Right now the GET systems will download lap time information to your smartphone but I am not sure of any other ignitions that do this. Won't help for a scoring application (least not with the current software) but would be cool to have this data available.

Thanks for the feedback. I did do a quick search for the topic, but found nothing since 2011 posted here. I figured that info was a little outdated. I've sent an info request to "Trackside" as they seem likely to have something but their website is a little light on details. Any other suggestions?

You have 2 choices. RFID or Westhold (mylaps). You might see different variations of the 2 setups but that is what you are going to get.

RFID has the benefit of super cheap RFID stickers ($1 each). A mylaps transponder was about $80 last I checked and only has a year of life and has to be renewed every year. They also don't have replaceable batteries, once it's dead it's dead. The RFID is pretty unproven in MX and I was always told the Read rate just wasn't there to be used in Moto X, However motosponder.com claims to have a system that will work.

I've been trying to figure out something for our business lately and had a nightmare trying to get a mylaps system going last weekend for a Sprint Car race.

I try to see both sides of this. From an owners standpoint you have an investment in the transponder system. No idea how much? but you no longer have to pay scorers (some tracks do both). From I riders standpoint I have to pay to race and pay to get scored. Sounds like a good way for the track owner to FORCE me out of $$. Can I pay my entry fees and not get scored?

is AMB now called Westhod now? i have used there system, and the battery are replaceble (at least in australia where i used to send mine) pretty sure this is what the AMA uses, and i know its what the world champs use,

extremely good system, but expensive, and i know some other system with cheap transponders have not proved reliable at motocross speeds, (where as running and moutain bike you can slow everyone down very easily at the timing point,

an AMB and Westhold transponder are pretty much the same thing.

a 100 transponder AMB system is about 15k right now.

Motosponder will sell you a system for about $3600

I have been racing HS for years. Just local stuff but there still might be 200+ riders on the track at the same time. Too many times I've waited up to 3 hours after the race to get that piece of plastic or to find out that some guy who crashed his brains out on the second lap finished ahead of me by six laps...all because of "manual" scoring. I entered a couple of races where they had transponders. Cost 20 bucks rental and 10 was refunded when you turned it in. The great part was the results were posted before I could park the bike, kick off my boots and get to the booth. Didn't hear any complaints about cheating or bad scoring either. I love those things. They may not be as advantageous at moto.
