supporting your local shop sounds like such the right thing to do but..... They guys I dealt with always acted like they could give 2 shits. I bought new ATV tires from a local shop and he wanted to charge me $20 per tire to mount on the rim. What? are you fking kidding me? I bought the ATV from that shop, then new tires, just take 10 minutes and mount 'em up or charge me $20 overall. Not per tire.
From that point on all my accessories where bought online. With no tax and free shipping, hard to beat.

With my triathlon bike (cost more than my first dirt bike), I make an effort to buy a few things from his local shop. The owner goes out of his way to service me, gives free tune ups, and always takes care of me if I have a bike emergency - ie an issue the day before a big race, he drops what he's doing and fixes me up straight away. Great service and a very helpful attitude keeps me coming back. I never had anything close to that from our local mx shops.
I absolutely agree with this. Bicycle shops are much better with the customer experience in my book. I have nothing but good things to say about my LBS (Fort Worth Cycling and Fitness).

Chaparral is only about 20 minutes from my house. Never order online, usually just go and pick up from the store. Most guys there are pretty helpful. Only shop around that always has anything in stock.

Went to my kinda local shop, about an hour away. Got a top end for my sons RM 85, I knew they would be a little more expensive than Rocky Mountain but I figured I'd spend local. Started putting it back together and they gave me the wrong piston. Got on the Rocky site to check part numbers and of course it was wrong, then I checked their prices and the local shop was $40 more for the same OEM stuff. So 2 hours later I have the right parts. I'll go online from now on

What ever happened with them pulling their support for Andrew Short?
Like what was the reason behind that or did nobody do a story on it?

I bet that you could look up that code yourself. It's on the PulpMX Show website.

I supported my local shops for many years. They all sold out to one dealer who is also oblivious to all things moto. I still spend money there though, have to do my own part searches and just call in what I need. Very little stock in that 50,000 square foot building. Most everyone who works there came from car dealerships but still a few who actually like bikes.

Really a far cry from the guys who used to race and race and race. We had some epic bike shops back in the 60's -70's here. Lots of owners and mechanics that knew how to build shit to run. Need a cylinder bored? Crank pressed? Used to be able to take it to most any of the local shops back then. Today, no way. One old guy built his own dyno, his Triumph he tuned finished second at Daytona back in the 60's. Turned the cylinder around on his Can Am and went to Bonneville. Lots of flat track racers from here, one or two could be spotted in On Any Sunday, they also worked at the local shops. Not just parts changers....these guys were motorcyclists in every sense of the word. It's different today, no doubt. If you still have a local shop that caters to your needs, make an effort to spend extra money there even if you have to go out of your way.

Never mind on the coupon code. It doesn't apply to fox gear.

We are lucky here in Denver we have Vickery and they are big into MX and have a huge inventory of both hard parts and aftermarket and most all brands of gear so you can buy it today and not wait. There are several other shops in town with a nice inventory so Colorado has it good with several great dealers.

Is it best of the both worlds that RockyMountainatv.com also happens to be my local shop? (I LOVE having them 25 minutes down the road. If I need something right away, I can call down there and they'll have it at the front desk before I get there...and if I order something online, its at my door step the next day.)

BTO or Rocky Mountain are my two main places...occasionally I'll drop by the local Cycle Gear store or the local Yamaha dealership if I'm in the neighborhood.

I'm done with Cycle Gear unless I need two stroke oil. They used to have a decent variety of good name brand and quality riding gear. The last year they've made it their mission to minimize the quality section and started carrying that BILT brand. It's horseshit. You have to trip over all that crap to the back corner if you want to see if they have anything you want. They've started catering to the beginner. I'm done with them.

RockyMountainATV is where my money goes for 100% of moto gear and parts. About to place a pretty hefty order to them in January to get my bike up to par for my next race season.

And I agree with Hvaughn about local shops being less than helpful. There are probably helpful shops out there, but I usually end up leaving to place an order online anyways because they stock very few parts in the stores.
I agree with you on the BILT stuff and them catering to the new rider (they may as well sell Chinese knockoff dirtbikes)...but, I have found some decent deals in the past, so I stop in if I have some time and I'm in the neighborhood.

I love RockyMountainATV's frequent buyer points...but I don't like seeing how much I spend there every year...it makes my wallet hurt. lol

Last Christmas, my order from Motosports.com must have got packed by the holiday help. Couple cans of chain lube bouncing around loose, caps came off, lube gone wild. A call, a couple pics e-mailed over and new stuff was delivered promptly. They didn't even send a UPS call tag to get back the lubed up Fox Umbrella or cans of lube. I was impressed with their concern and promptness. Two thumbs up. Always have had a great fill rate on orders.

Brads not an asshole any more then you are, he just is able to look at it from the outside because it didnt happen to him. It sucks Chaparel accepted your order for a product they did not have on the shelf but sometimes the quantity on the computer doesnt always match whats on the actual shelf, happens all the time in business.

Also, I think you kind of have to anticipate that when you are ordering a 2014 product and the 2015's are out already for a substantial dollar amount more then that 2014 stuff is going to run out quickly. Theres that window where everyone knows the new stuff costs a lot more so they try and rush out to grab the previous years model at the cheaper price.

Its Christmas time. I'm sure every online retail outlet is busy as heck and then throw in people wanting from noon on the 24th through the 28th off from work...well thats a substantial chunk of the time span you are dealing with here. Shit happens this time of year that I really dont think has anything to do with a Chaparel customer policy but happens everywhere in any business.

That being said, yes they should probably give you some sort of discount or something, but I dont know about a "screaming" great deal. I hope you can find your 2014 Fox boots at one of the other places for a price you like.

This,

I always find Local shops don't have the knowledge. I would say most of there customers are "weekend warriors".

I always do big orders from BTO sports (800-$1000), mainly top end kits, 10+ oil filters etc. Every time the order comes as expected, nothings wrong and nothings missing.

Just wished the Aussie dollar would go up again.

Cycle Gear has turned into the Harbor Freight of motorcycle accessories. That place has really gone downhill in the past decade.

That is the truth! I used to love shopping there...but lately...I think calling them the Harbor Freight of the moto industry fits them perfectly.

I know it's Christmas but to take my money and not hear anything for 10 days is completely unprofessional and apparently I'm not the only to have "issues" from this company. Then to send an email saying they didn't charge my card when they did in fact accept payment on the 21st....again. Piss poor. Just ordered them from bto for $350. Thanks for the point in the right direction. And I stI'll expect good customer service...even at Christmas.

If you order a product from someone and you don't get it, it's not the costumers fault.

You should get an e-mail within the hour stating when your product will be shipped/processed with a confirmation number or informed that they don't have it in stock at the moment. Most other companies don't struggle to sell you 2014 stuff when the 2015 stuff comes out and it's not acceptable at any time of the year, even if it's Christmas, to screw up an order.

I'm not sure who you do business with that does those things to you, but if they do they need to upgrade how they're doing business online. If it happened at my workplace, someone is in major trouble, especially if it is releated to the online ordering system.

I've never ordered from Chaparral online, but I have walked in many times, after riding Glen Helen. My friend is the sales manager (Andy Anaya) and was a very fast local pro back in the early 90's, also raced a few nationals and maybe a couple SX's. He's a GREAT guy and has given great deals on bikes and Razors to many of my friends. The parts dept does carry a LOT of parts and most brands of gear/ oil/ tires/ etc, so shopping in house hasn't been an issue and their staff is very helpful and knowledgable. My 2 cents.... Carry on

The few times I was in town and got yo go to CHAP moto, they always had the parts I needed, and the experience was positive. This more seems to do with their online retail.

If I want to buy online i go with bto sports. For going to an actual shop parts 411 in pomona is where I go. Mostly street bike stuff in store but all the guys there ride moto and have hooked me up with 10% over cost on parts and gear many times. great place.
