A frequently cited source when comparing Swedish rape statistics internationally is the regularly published report by the United Nations Office on Drugs and Crime (UNODC), based on official statistics provided by each member state.[note 1] In 2012, Sweden had 66 cases of reported rapes per 100,000 population, according to the Swedish National Council for Crime Prevention (Brå).[223] This was unequivocally the biggest number reported to the UNODC in 2012.[224] However, widely differing legal systems, offence definitions, terminological variations, recording practices and statistical conventions makes any cross-national comparison on rape statistics difficult,[225][226][227][228] which is why the UNODC itself caution against using their figures.[224] It should also be noted that many countries do not report any rape statistics at all to the UNODC,[229] and some report very low numbers, despite studies that indicate otherwise.[230][231]

The Swedish police record each instance of sexual violence in every case separately, leading to an inflated number of cases compared to other countries.[225][228][232] Sweden also has a comparatively wide definition of rape.[225][226][227] This means that more sexual crimes are registered as rape than in most other countries.[226] For example, in 2005 Sweden reformed its sex crime legislation and made the legal definition of rape much wider,[225][233][234][235] which lead to a marked increase in reports.[236][237] Additionally, the Swedish police have improved the handling of rape cases, in an effort to decrease the number of unreported cases.[225][237][238][239] For this reason, large-scale victimisation surveys have been presented by criminologists as a more reliable indicator of rape prevalence.[225][226][227] An EU-wide survey on sexual violence against women, published the European Union Agency for Fundamental Rights (FRA) in 2014, placed Sweden below Denmark and Finland,[240] and a previous assessment by Brå have placed Sweden at an average level among European nations.[226]

According to the FRA study there's a strong correlation between higher levels of gender equality and disclosure of sexual violence.[240] This, and a greater willingness among Swedish women to report rape in relationships,[241] may also explain the relatively high rates of reported rape in Sweden, which has a long-standing tradition of gender equality policy and legislation, as well as an established women's movement,[227] and has been ranked as the number one country in sex equality.[228][242]

Why would someone from Sweden care unless you just want to stir the pot? I have a natural right to protect my family. No law or politician can tell me otherwise. There are bad people in this world so prepare accordingly.

Surprised nobody here has mentioned anything about Switzerland's gun laws? I believe every male over 18 is required to take a years worth of military training and is REQUIRED to own an AR? They were also one of the only Euro countries to NOT get invaded by the Nazi's in WWII because of it... At least that's what think I learned all those years ago in European History class lol

You are going to love that gun.

I have had that same model for a number of years and it still operate beautifully. You can do a lot to accessorize it too!

My buddy has one as well and he has a hundred-round drum mag for it. I saw him empty that drum once. Couldn't touch the barrel for a long time.

They are great rifles, this is my second one. I also have a blued ranch rifle with wood stock. The only drawback is that most after market magazines do not work near as well as the ruger 20 round mags and they are not cheap.

Whoa dude, settle down now, I was simply putting emphasis on the fact that Switz has some very unique gun laws compared to the rest of the world, not the fact that they never got invaded... hence me forming it into a question and using the words "I believe" and "I think I learned". In all honesty, I was too stoned through most of European History class and only retained about a 1/2% of what was actually taught lol... You may very well be right, I just honestly don't know enough to make a blatant statement about their gun control, so I tried to word it in a way that someone would be able to politely correct me if I was wrong... I guess technically speaking you did get the "clueless bastard" part right though haha

Also, I'm pretty sure that there were a lot of "farmers and their guns" that dropped everything to join the fight and kill the shit out of the Nazis

When it comes to guns and gun violence in America, it’s astonishing how for millions common sense goes right out the window. Pretty much any credible stat showing global gun violence shows that not only does the United States lead the industrialized world in gun violence (per 100,000 people), but it’s not even close. Countries similar to us like Canada, Australia and England, which have much stricter regulations on firearms, have a fraction of the gun violence.

Yet despite this indisputable evidence, these gun nuts still honestly believe that even though we have well over 300 million guns in this country – we need more guns.
Often they’ll tout Chicago, and its gun violence, as the “example” of what happens when “liberals pass their strict regulations on guns.” This, of course, is a ridiculous comparison because one city doesn’t prove anything. The best way to look at gun violence is to take each state and compare the gun violence (per 100,000 people) to really paint a picture as to where gun violence is really a problem.
So, let’s do just that. Here are the top 10 states with the most gun homicides per 100,000 people:

Louisiana (18.8)
Mississippi (17.9)
Alaska (16.9)
Wyoming (16.7)
Oklahoma (16.6)
Montana (16.3)
Arkansas (16.0)
Alabama (16.0)
New Mexico (14.8)
South Carolina (14.8)

Notice something? 8 out of 10 of those states has a Republican governor (the exceptions being Montana and Arkansas), and all except for New Mexico have a Republican controlled state legislature / general assembly. Not only that, but since 2000, every state but New Mexico (2008, 2012) voted for the Republican candidate for president. Needless to say, these aren’t exactly “liberal anti-gun” states. For the record, the national average for gun homicides per 100,000 is 10.38. So these states aren’t only above average, they’re well above average.

And just for the “fun” of it, let’s look at the 10 poorest states in the United States:

Mississippi
Arkansas
West Virginia
Alabama
Kentucky
New Mexico
Tennessee
Louisiana
South Carolina
Oklahoma

Fascinating, isn’t it? Seven of the ten states that lead the United States in gun homicides also lead it in poverty. For another intriguing look at the big picture, check out CNBC’s rankings for the 10 worst states to live in – you’ll see many of these same states listed on there as well.

It would seem the best way to reduce gun violence would be to fight poverty – not buy more guns. Because as these stats show, very pro-gun states lead the country in gun violence.

And isn’t it interesting how so many “strongly Republican states” are some of the poorest in the country, while Republicans are also the same party that feverishly pushes gun ownership?

It’s a brilliantly dangerous con. You support economic policies that keep people poor, undoubtedly resulting in more violence. That violence then helps create the right environment for people to believe fear mongering gun propaganda, which spikes gun and ammo sales (which is great for the NRA that just happens to heavily back the GOP). Toss in a little religion to control people socially, pander to racism, and that’s basically the foundation of the Republican party.

Because if guns were the answer, every pro-gun Republican controlled state in the United States would be the safest ones in which to live. But that’s clearly not the case.
Then again, you’d have to be an absolute fool to think that more guns solves gun violence anyway. And that’s what gun nuts are – fools.
Get the fuck out of here.

If one doesn't like guns...they should stay out of America. End of Story.

Guns are woven permanently into the fabric of America...Always have been and always will be.

America isn't the best place for those that aren't comfortable around guns.
