I've got an 07 F-150 2x4 and it is great. Bought it new and it now has 133k miles. Hasn't been to the dealer for 1 issue either. The 5.4 has plenty of power to do what you need it too and pulled my 26' toyhauler I had for a while. I had the spark plugs changed at 93K and have completed the normal wear and tear stuff but this thing has done everything I have asked it too with no issues. I recommend one for sure. They are all good though, find one that hasn't been abused and drive it. Good luck!

I have a 2005 chevy with the 4.7L. I don't tow much but it is a little gutless sometimes. I do have 175k miles on it (got it used with 20k), and have only done regular oil changes and tires, and a few small parts (knock sensor, oil pressure sensor, tie rod ends, and front control arm ball joints). I don't consider that bad for 150k+ miles. Has never left me stranded anywhere either.

Agreed, I have a '2014 and I can't imagine going back to a gas burner again. It would be painful. Wink

I bought my 2001 Dodge Ram 2500 with the 24 valve 5.9 Cummins in 2010 for $5900 with 210,000 miles on it. Before that I had a 1999 Ford F150 1/2 ton. To me there is no comparison. Not even close. The Cummins gets 21mpg highway, 17mpg pulling my moto trailer. I put 2 new hubs on up front ($500) new tires on it ($700), got a new windshield ($187), new fuel boost pump ($400) changed the stock filter to the BHOF (Big Honkin Air Filter, about $80), and put in a Juice Edge with Attitude module that I got on ebay for $250. I also got a great used $600 toolbox on Craigslist for $100 that I put in the back. This past April, I upgraded to a 5 inch stainless steel exhaust ($489) . The thing is a beast that will tow pretty much anything I want, and I'm into it for right around $8,500. Love it.

That is perfect!

To the op, if you pick up truck it to all the races, get a half ton, if you pull much of a trailer, get a diesel. Something like pilotdude did is a rock solid option imo

4.3 is the 6cyl and 4.8 is the small v8. No such thing as a 4.7. But yea the 4.3 was a pooch but got good mileage. And the 4.8 wasent much better than the 5.3 on gas with quite a bit less power.

Sweet, here is mine doing what it does weekly. Thats 8 pallets @ apprx 2k#'s each. I traded in an 06 2500hd with a 6.0 gas engine in it, the duramax gets 5mpg more doing anything than the gas did. Empty interstate driving it gets upwards of 7mpg more than the 6.0. The buy in for diesel is higher, but doing what I do fuel costs are lower for the diesel.

The GM trucks are probably the best of the bunch by a very small margin. They are prone to brake line rust in heavy salt climates though.

I have an 05 Ram 1500 4x4 with the Hemi, it's got 109k on it now and is just starting to need attention. Wheel bearings, ball joints, 2nd set of brakes, u-joints, etc.

Give the 99-03 / 04-09 F150's a closer look. I've got 190k on my 5.4L F150 and its still going strong. The spark plug issue gets pretty overblown, I know a few other dudes with these trucks and none of them have had troubles. One thing I will say is that the 5.4 is a workhorse of a motor, but it doesn't have the grunt of a 5.7L Chevy or 5.7 Hemi Dodge. Still though, I've towed close to 9500lbs with mine and it does alright if you take it easy.

I agree, but pictured is the very best year of the very best motor of that model of truck. If that thing has the 5 speed, it will kick the shit out of just about anything on the road new or old.
