Yes certainly no disrespect to them! It's just evolution.

When asked about racing the GPs in the Eric Johnson interview that ran on virtually every moto website this week, Ryan was asked about the possibility of winning. He said, “First of all, to have an American win in the first year would be huge.”

The facts: Ryan Villopoto would not be the first American to win in his first year—that as done by Danny LaPorte back in 1982…and it was huge.

And MXA went on to point out, RV went on to make more crazy incorrect comments about MX history and nobody corrected RV

It'd be wrong to say it's never been done before.
RV did not say "it's huge"
RV said, it WOULD be huge
and the subtle message that came through to my ears (I know not to your ears) was that it had never been done before

if your name were Brad Lackey and you noticed RV said that, how would you feel? Brad was a reigning AMA MX Champ and went over the very next year and worked for 10 years to win the GP Title in what was the major class at the time, the 500 class

It's about context,an American has actually already won it in the first year,if he knew this maybe he should have said huge in their (or his) first year,or is huge to seperate things from it already have been done and the present/future tense?Dizzy

Anyhow It would be huge for him to do it,or it to be done, and as in the other thread, although Lackey was AMA 500 champ and top American in the Trans-Am series the year he went but wasn't in RV's league, that makes it an even bigger deal of him going-it's huge.

Lackey was the current 500cc AMA champion AND on top of that the best American going up against the Euros in the Trans AMA.
How is RV is a league higher than that ? How could Lackey have gotten into a league higher than he was in?

too many nitwits on here will overanalyze and misinterpret anything because of preconceived notions in their pea brains.....
simple question from a pea brain: if your name were Danny Laporte and you won the 250 GP Title in your first year in the GP's
and
you read today the below comment from an American rider, how would you HONESTLY feel?
“First of all, to have an American win in the first year would be huge.”

let's look at what you said:

1. anything RV does trumps what Lackey and Laporte did in 82. I DO NOT AGREE. IF HE FINISHES 2ND THE THE GP'S IT WILL NOT TRUMP LACKEY/LAPORTE.
BUT IF HE BEATS CAIROLI IN HIS FIRST YEAR, IT WILL TRUMP WHAT LACKEY/LAPORTE DID BECAUSE;
A. LACKEY DID IT IN HIS 10TH YEAR
B. LAPORT DID IT IN THE 250 GP CLASS WHICH WAS NOT THE TOP CLASS IN 82

2. things are so far evolved from back than (back then) TO ME THAT SEEMS UNFAIR TO EVERY CHAMPION TO EVER WIN A TITLE - AND IT IMPLIES THAT ONCE WE REACH THE YEAR 2035 AND THE FANS LOOK BACK WHEN THEY TALK ABOUT RV, THEY WILL SAY WELL WHAT RV DID DOES NOT MATTER BECAUSE IT WAS BACK IN 2015 - I DON'T KNOW IF I BUY THAT LOGIC

3. Villopoto beating cairolli on his turf in 2015 would be huge. VERY TRUE !! BUT DOES NOT HAVE ANYTHING TO DO WITH THIS POST WHICH WAS RV'S COMMENT: “First of all, to have an American win in the first year would be huge.”

I too think it would be huge if RV wins the GP title in 2015. RV was probably just saying in his interview that it would be huge for him to go win the GP title. He was just thinking about himself and the present. RV probably knows full well that Americans have already won GP titles 8 times over the years and he knows Laporte won in his first year, etc

I say, go get em RV - it has been a while and the USA needs another Champ to enter into the history books:

Very nice guy, Danny, here is an interview with Steve Matthis

Lackey won the AMA 500 National championship in 72 I think ? LaPorte was the 79 500 National Champ so no.

I don't think anyone is compelled to read your spam of incoherent messages. There are two lessons here:

1. Type English properly.
2. Don't use 10 messages to get your point across.

Oh, and finally,

3. No one cares.

Sorry to burst your bubble.

Lackey won the AMA 500cc title in 72
Lackey was the highest placed American rider in the 1972 Trans-AMA (6th)
It was clear he was the absolute best in the USA (just like RV today) so next step was a GP title
Lackey (REIGNING AMA MX CHAMPION) went to Europe in 73 and finally won the title in the premier 500cc class
FIRST AMERICAN WORLD CHAMP (one week before Danny LaPorte)

LaPorte won the 79 500cc AMA mx championship
LaPorte was member of 81 MXDN USA "B" team to go win the MXDN in the DEEP Lommel sand in 81
The MXDN victory lead to a factory Yamaha ride in 82 in the 250GP series
LaPort becomes first American to win a GP title in his first year of competition

Why would he say "it's huge"? HE HASN'T FUCKING WON THE TITLE YET. He can't say it's huge to win the title before he wins it. Are you from that Deliverance town in Georgia?

Good Point visser62, you are right.

RV would probably ONLY have said "it's huge" if he were actually aware that Danny had ALREADY done it.

This would mean RV just wanted to emphasise that it is huge EVERY time an American does it.

but RV said "WOULD be huge"

So what do y'all think?:

A. RV is just so concentrated on his own game that he just didn't remember that Danny already did it before RV was born.
or
B. RV actually does not know LaPorte ALREADY did it.
or
C. RV meant that it WOULD be huge for an American to win the PREMIER class in the first year. (that has never been done)

BTW, forum members 555 and Crush brought up: "it's not wrong to say its huge." and I was just responding to what they wrote when I made the comment about "it's huge"

is there an option for:

D. RV knows and still thinks it "would/will be/was/is/are/might be/could be/however the hell you wanna say it" to go over there and win in this manner

Julian, just let it go, if he said it's huge or would be huge, who cares. The only thing that is HUGE for us fans is that he will be racing the Gp's next year!!

you all are right, time to take a break from the would/could/may have/maybe will/ stuff.

I like the name of your town peelout, "Ogden" it reminds me of a fast rider I once saw at a 125/500 AMA MX National - 1976 I think - Burnt Hickory Georgia. Gary Ogden was riding a Suz for FMF and he looked so cool in that Gerrit Wolsink style helmet, also fun to watch on that day, Bob Hannah's sister was attending the race I had heard and of course Bob was GOING to win, Well I was standing there in about the 4th turn after the start, hard as concrete Georgia clay, Bob comes around and slides out snapping his clutch perch right off his handlebar - I watched as he pulled the dangling clutch lever over against his left grip, grabbed on tight squeezing it with his hand, and took off from last place. Everybody knows Bob loved to fan his clutch, but that moto it was not possible, anyway, Bob picked em off one after the other, right up to and past Marty Smith, to take the moto win.

How's that for moving on away from the RV comments that MXA pointed out getting me fired up, I am cooled off now. Thank everybody for your thoughtful comments

cool story. i got one for ya, my name is Garet, last name isn't Wolsink though...

taking MXA's words to heart was your only problem, i think they recently hired Tony Alessi as the content editor.
