So let me see if I understand this: Team USA has one rider break his foot on Saturday in a set of rolling whoops that look a lot like the ones in his backyard (the Millville Whoops at Spring Creek ARE literally his back yard) , another rider crashes off the start twice but is the fastest man on the track that last moto, and the third rider gets second in the opening moto to a superb Gautier Paulin, and then has problems in the last moto after an early crash... and it's our track prep's fault?

Gang, did anyone walk Glen Helen or Unadilla or RedBud after the races to see how rough they were? Does anyone not see the huge differences between, say, RedBud and Miller, or Hangtown and High Point? Do you realize that we haven't been "smoothing the tracks out" for years because we only have about 12 minutes between motos?

Why can't we give Team France credit for winning as a team, staying off the ground, riding consistently fast and smart, and having the outright winner of both motos? Why can't we give Belgium's Red Knights credit for backing up last year's win with another solid outing here behind a couple fast and smart veterans?

We had some problems and we lost. Tony Cairoli also crashed and had bad starts and under-performed as a result of his injured knee -- are the Italians blaming the GP tracks? Chad Reed didn't get 50 feet off the starting gate -- is that Anaheim's fault? Shawn Simpson's chain fell off -- blame it on Hawkstone Park?

Our guys raced hard, gave it hell and but still lost. Give them credit for spending five extra weeks trying to stay in outdoor shape and keep testing and then traveling across the world to race with the rest of the world's best while everyone else is here is switching teams, taking time off, practicing supercross for 2015.

We should be proud of their efforts, disappointed in defeat, but gracious and respectful too.

I think you're taking this as a reflection on you and thats just not the case. I think you are doing an outstanding job..seriously. BUT, can you honestly say that we have had bad luck 3 years in a row? Obviously something needs to change in order for us to win again. What do you think needs to happen? And i totally agree with you on their tracks being like backyard tracks. This is what we have to deal with unfortunately.

Some need to realize that making changes for the simple sake of making changes can make things worse.
My points still stand:
What team manager makes Martin not break his foot,
And
Dungey/Tomac's first turn crash?

Do you honestly think DeCoster told Tomac and Dungey not to try and win and instead settle into 11th place?
Dude please shut the hell up about DeCoster i already told you I didnt think it was his fault, it was a team effort. But something has to change because what we are doing obviously isnt working anymore. You obviousely have no suggestions or have anything of value to add, so move on.

I've asked you a bunch of times how we should go about making changes and what should they be and all you do is send me to the first page, which gives me no concrete details of what needs to change. You know what needed to change this year?

5 bad starts, 2 crashes, a stall and a broken foot

Stoked USA still has the most wins of any country in the history of MXdN. And it goes without saying that I appreciate the effort our riders put in, but we need to form a winning strategy for next year. We haven't been getting it done and we need to look at some areas that may improve our chances...

For next year I hope it goes down like this:

After winning the MX1 Championships, RV is the obvious pick for team Captain.

All things in the universe remaining the same (Dungey winning the Outdoors or coming in second), send Dungey in the number two spot for his experience and consistency.

Take a lesson from some of the other teams and DO NOT send and inexperienced rider to ride MX2. I know, I know, some young kid who just won the 250 outdoors should go, but we are supposed to be building a winning team here. Makes no sense to gamble on the inexperience of a rider who is full of piss and vinegar.

Wisdom and experience wins the MXdN. The third rider should be picked buy either picking one of the other top finishers in the 450 outdoors or buy choosing the top 450 rider who was a 250 Champion and has made the transition to 450 class with consistent riding in the top 10.

Ok lets srart with no crashes and 5 decent starts. That might help...fact is this shit has gone on for 3 years now, we need to stop blaming bad luck and man up and make the necessary changes. Im looking for input and you have none to offer, only smart ass remarks.

Agreed, thanks for the constructive input. RV if healthy does need to step up and offer his leadership next year!

I'm honestly trying here, but you don't have any answers.

It's up to the individuals to not crash and get better starts. I'm confused as to how or what you looking for as far as an answer.

The only thing I could see helping this years team is supplying them with more money and supplies to go over early and acclimate to the tracks better.

But if you supply them with more money/supplies people complain that it's no longer a pride thing so...?
9/29/2014 7:17am
The way I see it, If Dungey and Tomac hadn't gone down the first lap then we may have won the thing, and Tomac may have dominated that last moto. Martin's injury was unfortunate.

Shit happens. I'm not worried about it.

Thank you!!

And i agree with going over earlier thats a valid point. Not sure what you mean by no more pride thing..to me it is a pride thing when more effort is put into it.

What I find amazing is that more American riders aren't fighting to get on a MXoN team. Knowing there's no down side to not winning and they'll get the whole hearted support of all American MX fans win or lose, why aren't they?

They fight every year to win the championship and place as high up as they can in the points. That's how we pick the riders.

Thanks. By no means do I want to jump in here and say 'This is the only way USA can win" I am just hoping to stimulate some ideas on how we can get it done. USA is full of smart, determined, never give up type of people. We can do to it no doubt, but it looks like we need to put a little more thought into it. Not much. Just a tweak her or there.

DC said the whoops that Martin crashed on look a lot like the ones in his backyard (ie Millville) not that the GP circuits look like back yard tracks.

I totally agree. This isn't about bashing our riders like some people on here think, It's about solutions. I'd be interested in someone from the media giving decoster an interview to hear what he thinks needs to be done.

RIGHT ON!!!!

Listening to Emig say that BY FAR his time representing USA in the MXdN was the most important racing of his career said it all. You could here the passion and reverence in his voice when he said that his highest high in racing was when he was on the winning MXdN team and his lowest low was when the team he was on lost the MXdN.

The riders that go over to Europe to represent us deserve nothing but our praise and respect. We need to organize around a team manager and a committee to come up with a winning strategy. Not b!tch about what went wrong and offer no solutions....

I cast my vote for "The Man" to lead our team. Talk about wisdom....

Let's say Dungey rides like he has all season and goes 2-3. Tomac goes 6-1. Martin gets 11th. With those scores, we still don't beat France. They were on fire and no team out there yesterday was beating them.

With France and Belgium being able to consistently field three strong riders, the consistency game needs to go out the window. That can no longer be relied upon. Wasn't last year the first year the MX2 age restriction was removed for the Des Nations? That has a lot to do with it.

Our riders need to go out there and do the best they can and keep moving forward. I think the past two years they've settled, depending on consistency. It cost them.

Yep. France didn't have anything worse than a 9th and never looked like going wrong. Even Ferrandis' bad start, he came out of turn one and two great.

Points wise for a mind, it was a big win!

By the way, the next three MXoN tracks are not sand tracks, they are Ernee (where we won in '05), Maggiora (where we won in '86) and the USA track-to-be-named-later (almost certainly Glen Helen).

While I would love to see a sand track back on the schedule, we have 12 rounds that are already spoken for in 2015, and they are the same 12 we have now.

France won, they were the better team (and I will admit I second-guessed Dylan Ferrandis, and he proved to everyone he was a great choice) and they didn't have as much bad luck as the USA, or Belgium, or Italy, or Great Britain, or Australia, or... The one and only other time they won was 2001 (and we weren't there due to 9/11). They were long overdue and they deserved it.

Congrats to France, Belgium and the rest of the teams.

Thanks to Eli, Ryan and Jeremy. You did your best, and stood up proudly for the effort.

Right on DC!!! And with Glen Helen coming up, you will likely win on your own turf with ease. I just hope we'll do the same next year. The place is gonna be packed.

The one and only other time they won was 2001 (and we weren't there due to 9/11). They were long overdue and they deserved it.

And it any team has consistently suffered terrible luck in recent years it's France!

I think we are seeing a reemergence of the old USA vs europeans from the 60's/70's only being played in reverse. They dominated motocross for decades. Americans couldn't ride period. We figured it out, adapted, and changed the sport. The europeans have now done the same. They have gone back to the old ways of high speed, rough, determination and heart to win. Anyway watching the MXdN can see that.

The American's have so much talent its ridiculous. The talent and skill is not at question. I don't believe the heart is in question either. Its amazing to me to see so many of you vitards absolutely losing your shit over the fact that America hasn't won in three years. I think its amazing and I can't wait to see us match the europeans and beat them on their turf again, but we're certainly not going to do it by showing up with a few weeks of preparation and simply 'maintaining' the outdoor fitness levels, as high as they may be.

A change in strategy maybe would be good. When America began dominating with essentially team honda de facto at the MXdN in the 80's we truly were sending our absolute best over. They were honored and took it as personal as any American representing us at the olympic's. Does anyone here even know what happened at the 1986 MXdN when Johnny O'Mara absolutely annihilated an entire field of 500cc two strokes on his CR125 at mountain track in italy? That was DESIRE and HEART. The will to win above all else. He had a point to prove. How about when Bob hannah was elected to ride the 125 even though he was near the end of his career and hadn't rode one in years? He said I'll be damned if im the fall guy and proceeded to dominate. That led into the 90's and our guys continued to dominate because it was a matter of personal pride and honor to be elected to continue the tradition of winning and beating the worlds best!

Someone in this thread said why would you go risk it when you could instead be prepping for sx, why risk getting hurt. Whoever you are just hang up your boots and taking up crocheting, please! Pansies like you have no place in this sport, much less infecting the minds of anyone reading your worthless comments.

There is no greater honor than being elected to represent our country against the worlds best!!! That is when you truly lay it on the line. Because its not for money, or contracts, or records, or sponsorships. Its simply to put our flag on the top step of the podium, that IS the ultimate motivation, none else is needed! Could you not see that in the Europeans?!?

We should not be ashamed of our performances. I gained so much respect for martin after seeing his crash. A 11/13 might not sound great, but after learning of his broken foot and toes that is exactly they type of heart we need out there. He dominated 250's this year. He was our best 250 man on the best 250F in the world right now. I hope he gets another chance.

Looking at the 450's I can only wonder what would happen if RV and RD were our guys. Tomac is amazing. RD did very well!! Crashes happen, there's always bad luck. These things happen and I honestly believe that with a change of luck and freak incidents America is on the top step of the podium again very soon. The game has simply changed again. Dont lose your sh!t vitards. Sit back and enjoy the next evolution of our sport.

Good post man!!...funny at the same time..Grinning

I think everyone (who has constructive input) seems to be agreeing that it stems more from preparation, sending our best riders and placing the event as a higher priority. I hope we can right the ship in the coming years.
