I had the wooden spoon here. I got it once...after that the threat of it was enough to straighten my shit out.

My buddy...his dad made him cut the switch from the tree and shape it just right for his own whoopin'...niceSad

Of course the belt was popular with a lot of my other friends.

We all turned out fine...and we all knew we deserved what we got too.

It's very discouraging for responsible people who want to have kids. This is one of the several reasons I don't want to have kids. I was brought up with corporal punishment and believe it has it's place in parenting. There are instances where it goes too far and I don't agree with that. I don't want government telling me how to raise my children and that's precisely what they're doing.

I don't know what AP was accused of. Was it just a good lickin or did he leave bruises and marks on his kid?

If you click on the link it talk about the charges and some pictures. My whole thing is I'm tired of the gov't or anybody or any group telling me how to raise MY kids. It's no wonder kids have no respect for anyone anymore, we are going to have a country full of pampered soft pussies if we continue on this permissive path of raising children.
I have heard even my beloved Marine Corps has timeouts in boot camp now-I just pray that is not true. One of my drill instructors SSGT Mazenko at Parris Island gave a speech in front of the statue of the Iwo flag memorial-that the greatest enemy facing the Marines was the mothers of America and this was in 1982-how true he was.

Lacerations seem like they'd be taking it too far. Sometimes the articles exaggerate what really happened so it's difficult to determine exactly what happened.

One of my buddy's recently got his child back from his mother with bruises on his arms, face and butt. Like he got the shit beat out of him. Turns out the mom's boyfriend is the one who punishes the 4 year old. Terrible situation and there is a good chance that the child will end up back with the mother eventually. . . who is still with her boyfriend. The sadder part is that the mom defended the boyfriend's actions when my buddy confronted her about it. I have no faith that the system will do anything right in that sort of situation. Another reason why I don't want kids. Easier to just not have to deal with it.

How young is the kid? If anyone has ever heard Louis C.K.'s stand up on corporal punishment you may change your mind on the whole idea. He lays it out in a very funny way, but there is so much truth to it. I personally don't agree with it. I could never hit my child. If I did, I would feel like such a piece of shit. I know you guys will roast me on that stance but it is what it is.my dad always expressed severe disappointment in me when I did something wrong, and I honestly believe that hurt more than anything physical could have since as a child you never want to disappoint your parents.

Children should NEVER be disciplined, in anyway, out of anger, ever.

Discipline is to teach a lesson...therefore its done out of love. If you are disciplining out of anger, or frustration, or to get even, to "hurt" them, or to spite them...you're doing it wrong.

Children need discipline...sometimes even harsh discipline...but it should be done out of love...and afterwards showing them even an excessive amount of love so they don't think you don't like them or so that they don't lose trust in you.

This theory that spanking is done out of, or with love is about half true maybe. It reminds me of people who "harvest" deer when they hunt rather then kill deer, which is what is actually happening.

You spanked them because they pissed you off and nothing else got their attention.

totally agree with this^^^.... The only thing I would add is that they need to REALLY understand "why" they got it.

Spanking should never draw blood though!!! Thats going overboard a bit! I think AP may have crossed the line by a few steps? Not a fan of using any sort of "tools" even though I myself got the HottWheels race tracks from my mom a few times!Pinch

The best this country ever ran was when people were strict and now it's run by a bunch of life vacationers and it's going down fast. Idiocracy. Soon rappers and wrestlers will run the country which seems like what all the people wish for now or might already be happening as far as I can tell. Our country used to be respected, now not so much.

Originally I thought this was just a spanking, which I don't choose to use with my children but understand that it may be used to get a child's attention. But when you hear about wounds to the child's scrotum, it's kind of hard to justify this sort of thing in any way at all......

The Minnesota Vikings sure look bad now. He's out for the game, then they reinstate him. Then some sponsors pull their sponsorship, and only after they do that, the Vikings change their mind and "exempt" him.

No way should the marks that were left on that kid ever be that bad. How you discipline your child is up to you, but that was definitely excessive.

But damn oh damn the beatings we used to get from grades 1-12 could be fucking brutal. The coaches were the worst and I would be willing to bet a dollar that there were a couple who got off to it. One coach in junior high literally lifted one kid off the ground he drilled him so damn hard. One kid jumped prematurely and took the paddle to the back. Can't believe he didn't end up in a wheelchair from that.

Kiln dried oak paddles wrapped in electrical tape with lightning holes drilled through them, and that was the old bitch in 5th grade. Ask me how I remember...lolLaughing

High school welding shop teacher would rub the paddle in circles around your ass "warming you up" while talking about how he was going to fuse your anus shut. He was about 500 pounds and rarely got out of his chair. Everybody in class thought it was funny while I thought he was just fucking weird. Did not help my cause in the least when I told him those exact words.Woohoo

Somehow we survived and some of us turned out okay. Of course that depends on your definition of okay.

I got a funny story, one morning before school i was being a little shit, i was quite the handful when i was a kid!

Well mom had had it with me that morning and went to pull out a belt, it flew out of her hand and the buckle caught me right under the eye and left a bruise. Get this...it was picture day at school! lol So there i am with the biggest shit eating grin on my face in that picture. I still to this day crack up when i see that pic. Laughing
