You can let it sit without oil until you fix it, and put a helicoil or timesert to replace the thread. Used a helicoil to fix stripped threads in an engine case before, no problems.

Word of advice also for these 2 oil filter bolts for the CRFs.

Buy ti replacement bolts online (ebay has a ton) due to the strength and rolled threads. These two bolts inparticular love to stretch and will cause stripping taking them out or putting them in. Because you're constantly changing oil and oil filters, at least you SHOULD be, the weak stock bolts fatigue. The long one loves to twist and snap inside the ignition cover.

You can pick up ti bolts for $4-6 each and is a great investment, plus they look trick. You'll want 1each of 6x15 and 6x75 Ti Hex bolts.

Never heard this one before. Had a lot of crfs and haven't had this issue. If you are cranking those bolts hard enough to snap them off inside your cases or stripping the threads you might need to be using a torque wrench.

Mettec or CRFs Only for good ti bolts.

You may still have threads in there. Measure the depth of the hole and put a new fresh bolt in it and count the number of rotations to determine how many threads are left. I'd want at-least 4 full threads and I'd use a torque wrench...those are very "light torque" bolts.

You are best off using a heli-coil.

Good Luck!

fyi: This makes sense, but isn't obvious. Helicoils are stronger than original threads in aluminum. When I was a machinist we would make parts for the military that required installing helicoils in the brand new parts.

If you need them, don't hesitate.

I am nearly sure the tread on that goes a lot longer than the length of the bolt , just clean the bad treads and get a longer bolt and its fixed , a lot easier than than taping it , know a good few people did this , cases are soft alli , and people over tighten them

I think the hole is deeper also,if you cant find a bolt that is the right length to work, add a couple washers to take up the extra bolt.

cheers everyone for the replys ....I chucked a heli coil in it and it worked a treat then I did the gear box oil everything was good untiol I took off the bolt to check the level and that was fukn stripped too so I got yet another delema as I don't wanna drill this out incase the filings go into the gear box .... this was my brothers bike he just got a brand new box and engine done and im wondering if the shop fuked em ????? unbelievable how can I helicoil this without the filings going into the box ?????

They prolly ran them in with air ratchet or worse.

Use a shop vac hold it next to the bit while drilling then against the hole when done.

Pour oil in it with leaned over to wash out any inside. , what is left wont hurt the tranny.

You can also dip the drill bit in wheel bearing grease before you drill. This will hold the shavings. Drill a small amount, wipe off the shavings and repeat.

You shouldn't be tightening the bolts to the point that they stretch though. The shop manual says to "tighten bolts securely" then gives you a specified torque of 12 in/lbs for the oil drain bolt.

The golden torque for most of the common bolts in your engine case is 12 in/lbs.Super easy to over torque, as all of you who have torque wrenches know.Grinning
