Currently doing a mcgrath replica and needing new rims i know he didn't have gold rims but was wondering peoples opinion if gold rims would ruin it or look any good or if any one has any pictures of old 90's cr 250 with gold rims ??

I think it's personal preference, I have gold rims on my 87 CR500 and on my 02 RM125, I would not have it any other way. The silver wheels always looks stock, the Black rim fad, I think black looks worn out as soon as you ride them. I guess if you are building a garage queen, make it just like Showtime's, they look very cool, period wise. If I needed rims, I would go gold, or even yellow on a Suzuki, Gold on Hondas, Gold on most anything else. JMHOTongue

Go for whatever you think looks right.

It's your build, your time, your money, and you don't have to please anyone but you.

It's tiring seeing everyone build the same bike. I love to see builds where people show their own taste and use a bit of artistic license.

I build what I wanted at the time period of the bike being made. Makes each bike an insight into my style at the time.

If you order gold rims, just make sure that the color matches -- the seller should be willing to open the boxes and verify that the gold color is the same, rim to rim.

The anodizing is done in batches, and there can be big color variance even from batches done the same day. Make sure the rims are matched before paying, I found out about this the hard way Sad

I've had to order of the net so couldn't really do that. But i have decided to go with silver just as i think they will stay looking better for longer as i will be racing this bikes and tracks over hear in the UK i ride can be very stoney so i think i gold would fad after a few mettings. I think the main think its new rims wont be half as wobbley as the old ones that was on it !!!!

I have a gold set with billet hubs that I may use on my Herring replica. I know, not correct but I'm going to run what I like. When I park it for good, then I'll go with the correct wheels.

I found that out the hard way as well and now have an RM125 with gold rims that don't quite match.
