It sounds like Davi's injury was more serious than some of the doctors here had initially expected.

DAVI MILLSAPS | TALKS ABOUT HIS NEW RIDE

Last time we spoke, you were dealing with a foot injury. Is that 100 percent now?

“Yeah, I had a couple surgeries on it to try and figure out what was going on with it, and we finally did. Once we got a handle on it, it healed pretty quickly. It’s good to go now. Like I said, I got released to ride maybe about last week or so—I don’t really remember the exact date, because time is going by too fast (laughs). But I did just recently get released to ride.”

People might not fully understand why you were out for the whole year with a foot injury. Was it pretty serious?

“No it wasn’t. It was one bone that just wouldn’t heal. It was my fifth metatarsal that wouldn’t heal. The problem was that we didn’t find the partial non-union until April. I had three surgeries prior to April to see what was wrong with it and try to fix it, and then it came about that it was only 40 percent healed. Once we found out that it was only 40 percent healed, the doctor went in, did a bone graft, put in some plates and screws, and I’m good to go now.

So it was really incidental that he got released medically and from his contract at the same time?

Anyone know if the split was amicable or was it on bad terms? Haven't really heard much on the relationship between Milsaps and Rockstar.

I think Davi said he was released a few weeks ago but he just released everything all at the same time.

Don't know about the split but I think it would be beneficial to both. Rockstar ktm is going with Anderson as their number 1 next year no huskys, so it was extremely unlikely that Davi rode for the team again. Davi doesn't gel with the ktm so it doesnt make since for either party to put in time and money testing just so Davi can try to race the last round of mx for the team. But thats just my thoughts on the subject.

You're a regular Buddy Hackett you are.

I sure hope Davey can win a sx championship before the arthritis sets in.

I'm not going to claim to know everything about this deal, but to borrow a phrase from Facebook's relationship status options, "It's complicated."

Not trying to be a smartass here, but you're saying it's more serious than some of the doctors here initially expected in the title, but when asked if it was serious, davi says "no, it wasn't" ??? I think Guyb summed it up perfectly....it's complicated.

The doctors here on Vital were proclaiming that Davi just didn't want to ride when in fact the injury was serious enough to prevent him from doing so.

Foot fractures are notoriously difficult to spot / diagnose. They are also prone to non-union and slow healing due to low blood flow.

I guess the uninformed ignorant idiots here were off base in criticizing Davi...so now they are going to criticize his docs. It just goes to show what jerks people are for throwing Davi under the for riding a MTN bike, but not racing the KTM. If you have ridden mx and also done XC / trail type mountain biking...you know there is no comparison to the loads your feet see. If anything, Davi was doing all he could to stay in shape by riding the bike till he got a release to ride his MX bike.

Some info on the difficulties of treating 5th Metatarsal fractures...

http://www.physioroom.com/experts/expertupdate/interview_mark_myerson.p…

"Physiotherapy is an essential part of the recovery, maintaining flexibility of the foot, decreasing swelling, and stimulating tissue healing. We use an external bone stimulator in all athletes which is applied to the foot daily to speed up the healing process. Exercise can begin in a single plane (bike, elliptical trainer, swimming pool) by 4 weeks, but monitored according to swelling and discomfort. Running in a pool, with the help of a buoyancy belt, followed by running on a hard surface can begin once soreness is relieved, usually at 6-8 weeks, and then finally a return to full activities including twisting and pivoting by 8-10 weeks."

So...If they finally diagnosed the non union and did surgery in late april....when would Davi have been cleared for full activity? Mid July +/-. When would he have been cleared to do things like RIDE A BIKE ? - June...about the time people started seeing him MTBiking... Everything we have seen from Davi has been consistent with him following a typical recovery regime for a fracture of this sort, with a non-union being diagnosed in April.

Some people here are complete idiots.

Im not disagreeing with you, but if you look at the time frames while he was training and racing Sea Otter it does sound a bit spectical, he's also been putting in a lot of work on the road bikes with Will Hahn which I think is a lot harder on your feet then moto.

I disagree with 100% there is more pressure on your feet riding road/mtb, he puts in more work on the road bike and ill tell you from exp. It hurts, i'd prefer moto on a metatarsal fracture. Neither would feel good but moto boots are much more comfortable and supply better control and stability on your foot.

Not too mention he's not doing basic trail riding he won at Sea Otter which is a rigorous enduro/dh type run. Oh and he's clocking 70 to 100 miles a day on the road bike.

Having been a competitive road cyclist, and a recreational mountain biker, I have a much different opinion. The stress cycling puts on the foot is a lot different, and the potential for loading the metatarsal is different. If clipped or strapped in, you are not going to take a big hit to the arch. A big hit to the arch could really load the metatarsal. Repetitive light loads to the ball of the foot (pedal stroke) are different. They stress the muscles on the base of the foot a lot, and the loads the metatarsals see are compressive. Taking a big hit to the arch, such as coming up short on an MX track is totally the opposite. The muscles on the bottom of the boot are not in play, and the metatarsal sees a transverse load.

Sore feet are a sign that the muscles at the bottom of the foot have been stressed. That is not detrimental to metatarsal healing. That is not a sign of fatigue stress to the bones. A single hit at the MX track could put the metatarsal under 10x the bending stress as a day of cycling, but your feet will not get sore. So making medical judgements based on how your feet feel is nonsense. Last time I checked, there were not nearly as many nerves in bones as in the soft tissues.

Are IQs really this low here?

I would also bet that a DH race like the Sea Otter was probably not what a physician had in mind when clearing a patient to ride his bike. Those damn kids.... Also...does not look that rough...nothing compared to MX..

Hmmm, speaking of Iq's, clearly your competitve cycling days never gained traction, I have ridden over 30 years road/mtb and moto and to this day I still race old man class in all aspects...oh and fyi nobody straps in these days, your either clipped in or on flats, most guys at the Otter were running clips which puts you on the forefront of your foot (USING THE BALLS CLOSEST TO YOUR TOES), do you even know where the metatarsal bone is? Probably not, but im sure you'll google it at some point. Having broken my foot and knowing the extent of the injury I can tell with 100% certainty it would be easier to ride moto then any type of cycling!!! So if you want to question IQ's here you should start with your own instead of trying to sound like an internet hero!!!

Oh and yeah the Otter is super easy, not rough at all...aye~ why not go out there and show us what you got on the Otter!!! I'll sit back on the tailgate of my truck drinking a beer and watch as the determined young foe will go out there and humiliate himself and come back and say "it looks so easy on youtube"

this is bordering on the likes of blowhard obese football fans wearing jerseys and facepaint talking about 'THEIR TEAM" and talking about player decisions like A: Their opinion really matters or B: that the player they are referring to actually knows/cares they exist at all.

I didn't realize his foot was the problem. I thought it was eye problems, just couldn't see himself riding a KTM.
Which I wouldn't blame him for, if I'm not happy I don't stick around.

RE bicycle riding while injured, the increased blood flow helps bones heal quicker. My last broken tib/fib the doc recommended riding a stationary bike as soon as I could move enough. He didn't recommend mtb racing on the broken bone though.

How is this thread different from virtually any other thread on here?

There are only a few different themes in the threads and this one fits into one of the main categories (speculation on a rider with posts containing name-calling, hand-wringing and gnashing of teeth from people who have never met the rider but know all about his situation because they have his action figure in their lunch box).

It's the Moto Soap Opera Network - bringing you contrived drama from the frothing-mouthed masses. Laughing

And there is no cure - "you can check out any time you like, but you can never leave". Silly

Sit back and enjoy the ride! Woohoo

no i agree with you there. this is no surprise.
but supposed 'doctors' chiming in about stuff, saying that he should or shouldnt be able to ride a bicycle, ect. good freakin grief these idiots have way to much time on their hands.
i'm willing to bet the people spouting off A. suck ass on a bike , B dont even have a bike. probably leaning more towards B. thus my correlation to the average obese football fan who has never played a day in their life.
