I think it's funny how everyone is saying he shouldn't have been riding it. It's something they have done for years and is not really any different or more or less risky than riding MX on his 250f.

Have you ever ridden a smaller bike? For a full size person, they are a hell of a lot less stable in the air and at speed.

He probably would have still podiumed at Unadilla, even on that bike!







Obviously, I don't believe that, but I'd love to see him enter the supermini class at Lorettas. I hope he heals up well.

Sure the Technic is different but I have no problem adjusting from Saturday to Sunday riding moto and I am a hell of a lot less skilled than Jeff.

Were they at least riding "big wheel" versions?? I can't tell from the picture..

Also, were these bikes setup for adult riders?? I'm sure there were tweaks, but to what extent?

The main novelty of the whole concept, IMO, is to see (and hear) these guys make the bikes scream like a raped ape. If the all the supporting factors aren't there to to allow them to make the most use of the power they've got (suspension, chassis setup etc) then the whole concept seems pointless. Just my thoughts..

My opinion of this whole thing? He was having fun. A guy that goes out and busts his ass 7 days a week was doing something with no pressure....FOR FUN.

Yes he may have gotten hurt, but if he was racing shifter carts down at pole position ( or whatever the European equivalent ) and bumped a wall and snapped a wrist, would everyone still be loosing there marbles? Doubtful.

There are a lot of talks as this should be the last time this event should happen....why? Because someone got hurt ONE TIME? Championship on the line or not, he was having fun racing for charity in which his boss was the host, and something happened. He is not going to loose his job or livelihood and will more then likely come back and line up for the last race and still win the damn thing.


Point of the story, let these guys have some fun.

Event would of been just as cool with them all on 125s - probably cooler - still could have gotten hurt as anyone that throws a leg over a bike...

That's why I stay off them - it's a 9-1-1 call waiting to happen.

I'm obviously much less skilled on a bike than JH, but if it can happen to someone like him it only serves to reinforce my decision.

Question for you gp guys that know the rules. If he doesn't win the championship how does that affect next year for him? Wasn't he only able to race that class because he was the reigning champion? I thought I read that at some point. But if he's not the reigning champion next year wouldn't he have to move up? Or will FIM change the rules yet again?

^^^ The only rule that can move a rider out of MX2 is the 23 year old age limit. Herlings has already confirmed that he is staying on the 250 for 2015.

This just sucks. I was really hoping we'd get to see him at Unadilla.

In my opinion, it's stupid to stay in MX2 next season. He's at a point in his career where the only thing that will make him better is better competition, which the MX2 class can't provide. MX careers aren't that long either, so I'd hate to see him waste years beating sub par competition. He should either move to the states or go up to MX1.

Gotcha. I know he confirmed that before he got injured. But like I said, thought I read somewhere that there was an issue last year with having to move up because of his championships but not being 23 yet. But then again, I might have just been confused. But thanks for cheating that up

Wants a big head start for when he hits MX1. Some would call it sandbagging or cherry picking.

And FWIW, NASCAR doesn't count Nationwide (Busch, etc) wins in Cup totals and MLB doesn't count AAA, etc; but the AMA counts 125/250F MX wins and titles in career totals as does FIM for MX1/MX2. Both are considered equal pro classes. Look at RC and Everts' numbers - both include the smaller bikes.

True. That's why I said, "in my opinion". I'm not sure how anyone can call them equal pro classes but technically that's what they are. It's just my opinion that they should be separated like pretty much every other sport does. Everyone knows where the best go though and that's the numbers everyone looks at when debating who is better than who.
