Those yamahas have too long of boots both incoming and outgoing from the carb. They aren't ridgid enough on hard landings to hold the weight of the carb and it causes a horrible bog, both on the 250fs and the 450s. Back when they had the steel frame, carbs falling off were commonplace. Im the biggest Reed hater there is but I'm pretty sure the bog claim was legit, however his injury claims seem a little fluffed up.
Bro, there is no way you are the biggest reed hater

This is why Chad irritates the hell outa me. If you read his interview on page 74 he pokes jabs here and there at Yamaha and goes on to talk about how he fell in love with the Suzuki 450 from the time he seen it on the cover some time ago. Bla Bla Bla... What else is he supposed to say right?
What gets me is when he talks about the carb problems that only Yamaha seems to have? He says his wreck in Detroit was because of this. Give me a break!!!
Well this is where i get irritated because i went to Detroit for my one and only supercross that i have ever been to. My son and i went there to watch a good friend of ours race the lites class and we had a great time. One of the things we had the pleasure of doing was watching practice. I was actually excited to see Reed ride in person. I was literally watching right in front of the jump he wadded on about 10 rows up. I had my eyes on him and him only the whole time.
And let me tell you in my opinion he wadded because he made a mistake. He clipped his front wheel on the face of the landing and he went for a ride. It didnt have a damn thing to do with his carb!!
To me this is typical Reed running his pie hole and complaining about something like a little bitch!!
Its ok though cause with Villapoto moving up Reed will once again be Mr. 3rd place!!!
Please note, although no boardcode and smiley buttons are shown, they are still useable
in my opinion reed jumped to far onto the tabletop and by the time his suspension rebounded his front tire was off the jump, making his front end drop and lawn dart into the step off landing. I was surprised to see him get up after that crash as well, after seeing the videos it was much worse in person.

Yamaha does use the same basic carb as everyone else, but the intake tract pre and post carb as well as the head is all theirs. The camshafts have a big effect on the throttle response also (overlap).

Bobby M:

I clearly remember a time when Magoo thought he was the baddest dude on the planet and wouldn't give the time of day to anyone who wasn't factory Honda or one of his NorCal homos, er, homies. It's a behavior pattern I've seen too many times, from Wardy and Broc before him, to any number of riders after. In the end, old age, loss of hero status, or in Danny's case, injury, tend to humble even the cockiest. I've known Danny for probably as long as you have and considered him a friend then, and now, but let's not get carried away and start rewriting history!

Anyone watching that video of his crash can see that his bike bogged, or at least hesitated, which at that level is enough to ruin your night. Why not take Reed at his word, especially in the face of the video evidence and the many posts supporting his version, written by folks in here who have been to more than one SX event?

There, that's better...

Smile Perfect response. Step off's like that are common place for these guys. Reed landed that one nearly perfectly. His back wheel was barely on, he had all the time in the world to get off...it wasn't a timing issue, this was a bike issue.

If this was a timing issue Reed would have known he screwed up and at least made some attempt to get the front wheel up with the throttle.
X2. I'm not really a Reed fan but that video seems pretty clear.Bog!

Agreed. The only reason he would have dropped the front end in that situation would be if he jumped too far out onto that table-top, but he landed perfectly, and I just don't think he pussed out and didn't commit to that on-off; Reedy does those type of on-offs in his sleep...so that only leaves the bike bogging.....which is what looks like happend.

RV has done full season of MX.. Reed pretty much none.. Reed had the first year of his supercross series starting the following weekend..
No reason to ride above ur head in mx when ur not conditioned for it and run the risk of injury and fuckin up his whole supercross series!
RV will be on the gas no doubt, and hopefully be in the battle with Chad and Bubba, but hopefully doesn't wreck himself and miss too much racing from trying to run with them if he isnt ready.

The thing is...its not just this board, reed gets the same reaction on just about every board, he does it to himself every time he opens his mouth. There are even a few shots on his OWN forum on his websiteLaughing

IF you like reed, "he's being honest and not a robot."
If you hate reed, "he's a whiner that always has excuses."
If you look at the scorecard you see that he's 3rd all time in sx wins.
During the era of james & rc.
Even more impressive is his podium to start ratio.

I think he made a mistake! You can see him giving the gas leading up to the table top, you can see him blip the throttle before he lands on the table top, but I don't see him twisting the throttle when he lands on the table top. Looks to me like he had a brain fart & was thinking it was a short drop-off - maybe leading into a corner.

I thought the exact same thing. The slow motion portion of the video shows it really well.

Didnt he say numerous times in the interview, "nothing against yamaha, its a great bike".
And people wonder why he doesnt like the media.
