Didn't happen to me but a buddy of mine. I lived in the Temecula/Murrieta area from 96 until 2013 and my friend who is a few year older than me is a lifer there. In high school (80's) he used to go down to the sand washes with some of his buds and watch the big guys ride and do their thing. One day he was out at one of the spots and Jeff Ward was out on his Kawi spinning some laps and messing with his suspension. He kept coming in complaining about the bike and making adjustments, then going back out again. After a few rounds of this he came in and had enough. He hops off the bike, takes off his helmet and tosses it to my friend and says "you go ride this POS and tell me what you think." So he jumps on, kicks it over and takes it out for a lap!! He still gets a kick out of telling that story. I'd love to see something like that happen in todays sport!

Big Lenny, it was the year of the low bars! It was actually Daytona week '04, and RC was out after his crash in November, but he still had his '03 SX race bike in the garage at The Farm (this was before he built that amazing home that now houses all of his championship bikes). He asked me if I wanted to take a spin but I didn't have riding pants or knee braces. He said, "Here's a helmet and jersey, just wear your jeans and don't go fast!" Two hours and two tanks of gas later my knees were bruised black and blue and my hands were blistered, but I took every single second I could muster and stayed out there on his outdoor track. The bike was the best thing I have ever ridden.

Still have the jersey, still have the helmet, still have the callouses! One of the best riding days of my entire life.

I've maintained and ridden several top privateer bikes with full Yosh or Pro Circuit race motors with A Kit suspension and every trick part available to buy. Even with those bikes being so incredible, it's hard for me to comprehend that a factory bike is even that much better.

One day I will find a way to ride one. Some how some way...

Well said, I've had the pleasure of building, then moto'ing bikes with good motor packages and A-kit, and it's only made me that much more desperate to ride a factory steed one day.

When I was 16 I rode a 82 Honda RC 250, it was a horribly stiff setup so I thought it sucked, the power was incredible though. 84 Suzuki RN 125, that bike was bad ass.

I got to ride one of Shae Bentley's bikes a long while back.
To this day it was the gnarliest bike I've ever ridden. I don't think it was truly "factory" as it was years after he won, but it had works suspension and the engine was built by PC.

Shae is still one of the nicest pros I've ever met. Would give you the shirt off his back.

I had the amazing opportunity to ride factory Suzuki 250's in 2003-2005. I purchased a 2004 that had a lot of super trick shit on it. Some dude in or near Sacramento has it now...he had/has no clue what he purchased, and he got an amazing deal on it.
