Is the 2014 YZ250F meant for a bigger/taller person?

Edited Date/Time 7/11/2014 7:05am
I am looking into getting a new 2014 bike, either looking at the 2014 yz250f or the 2014 CRF250R. I have sat on both, but never ridden either. I have a 2010 yz250f, which i really like, but now want to get a fuel injected bike. I feel when i sat on the 2014 yz250f its so bulky, and like really really tall...Is this bike meant for like a taller person or something? How would handeling be? The CRF i have heard is a lot easier to handle, and a "smaller" more "compact" bike...I just dont know if i would feel confident... I am 5'8, 176 pounds....Any feedback or thoughts would be great.

thank you

I've had a 2006, 2012 and now my 2014 yz250f. I bleed blue. I love my new bike although the recent part issues have been a bit of a headache (water pump impeller and shift shaft stopper). It is a totally different bike as far as handling to all the previous bikes and other makes. I have friends that either ride it and love it or ride it and hate it. Its super light feeling in the air but can be finicky in turns due to the lack of weight in the back and front which throws some people off, it definately did me when I got on her. The radiator shrouds are also quite large due to the intake being up front with the airbox, this still irritates me a bit as it feels my leg is way out there for turns but Im getting used to it. Its still to me an awesome engineering marvel and testiment to yamaha's commitment to further our sport and their bikes. I would though see if you cant ride one first before you buy one since like I said some people just hate the different handling and some love it. Good luck, oh and I'm 5'11, 160.

To answer your question, yes, the newer YZ250F and YZ450F are tall beasts. A little bit of a PITA for us short inseam guys. And they have very thin seat foam so cutting the seat is not much of an option. One of the things I really like about my 2012 CRF450 is how light and compact it is. Much shorter reach to the ground than my YZ125 and YZ250.

Yea I have noticed how tall they are! Even my 2010 yz250f seems a little tall. It just doesnt make me feel to confident ripping around the desert or track. I am really leaning towards a 2014 crf250r or 450r, just wanted peoples feedback. One thing holding me back is that i havent heard to much postive stuff regarding power for the 2014 hondas.. Any thoughts?>

on the 15 hondas, they have updated the tranny for durability. search the posts on thumper about the 450. im sure they have plenty of power. if you go to dirt rider they have tests saying its just delivery of the power. its still a 450.

Yamahas always seem to be a little bit taller than Hondas....which are still considered tall for a majority. Joke is "how can a country of short people design a bike so tall?"

Good to know! I may consider just getting the crf250r, power review wasn't amazing for the 250. But I'm sure it's still fine.
