Well i'm 28 now and still have not made it to ll's. It will be worth to this 30+ or 35+ or 45+ year old guy if i ever make it! Lol! Good luck!!!

25th fastest guy in the world in your class is not too shabby!!!

Cup of coffee . . . $1.50
Fastest guy award . . . Worthless
Attaining your goal of making it to loretta's like you have dreamed about for 15 years . . . Priceless

I wish i was as fast as you where i could just decide to go to ll's whenever i wanted to. Bottom line is they don't give those spots away and if i ever earn a spot on that gate it will be the biggest accomplishment in my moto "career" and you can bet your sweet tail i'm lining it up!

I'm counting down the hours until sign up cut off tomorrow at 5pm. After doing simple math this trip is not going to be cheap. My best guess is I'm going to be a 15-25 place rider.
Entry fee with parking $450
Gas there and back $500
Lodging $400 to $600
Food $200 ish for a family of 3.
Being trapped with a 9 month old, 4 year old and a wife for a week solid in blazing hot temps. I qualified before when I was younger but always got hurt before.
Is it worth it?!
Me and My family had a blast in 2012. Great vacation!

My kids were 5,6 & 11 at the time.

If you're looking at it like this "Being trapped with a 9 month old, 4 year old and a wife for a week solid in blazing hot temps"
You probably need to change your perspective a bit.

I trained to win so when I competed up front all week and came home with a gold it felt like it was worth it. If I didn't train and just went to fill a slot, after spending all them dalla billz, it would probably still be worth it....

I see it this way.

1. You have already decided what place you will get. All this time I thought they held the race first then put out results.

2. You already have several excuses for when you have a shitty time , kids, wife, weather and what ever else.

Financially it makes absolutely no sense hopefully you already know this.

if you have the time, the money and have insurance making sure your wife and kids won't suffer if you get hurt, I say go for it and embrace it 100%

if you don't, Sell your bike and all your stuff and try again later when your financially and mentally better prepared.

That's the boat I am in. I have a track in my backyard and I am terrified to ride it. Only reason I keep it up is for looks otherwise it will grow weeds like crazy. In fact I just came out from there 10 minutes ago freaking weed eating and pulling weeds and I just had it redone a month ago. However, I am scared to ride it because I have a 4 year old, run a company and live alone with nobody here to keep an eye on me if I wreck. Most likely I will just sell my bike and move but your right it's a risk/reward thing. It's a tough call to be honest on whether to go or not. It sounds like you would be better off spending the money going somewhere else. Maybe a beach vacation or something.
So what you're saying is, you're a giant fucking Poser?

WTF???

Last time we raced there we took our newborn granddaughter, born July 3rd, and her 2 sisters. I never once doubted if it was the right thing or not. My wife and I started going down in '84 and have been to race 5 times, countless others to spectate. It is moto heaven, no other experience like it. Spend time down by the creek let the kids enjoy that, you will also. My wife has never ever been an outdoor person, never will, but she never ever complained at LL's.

I think your cash estimate is a little bit low, and I doubt you'll find any lodging near the track as well. Besides staying at the ranch is half of the fun. I rented an RV last yeat that was total junk, it rained a shit load and the thing leaked water like you wouldn't believe. We filled a couple pots that were sitting on the middle of the floor.

The track is nothing special but it's a great test of bike skills, gets really rough, deep long ruts. No big scary jumps and it's very safe unless you overheat.

I have a six month old and there is no way I would take her there for a week, that being said I don't think you should skip it. If you can find someone to watch them, and you and your wife are ok leaving them for a week that would be ideal. It's really a spectacle and it's awesome watching the guys who will be on the podium in the next few years.

Both times I went 250A in 2009 and 25+ in 2013 I didn't care how I finished I was just happy to go. The atmosphere is amazing, every single class is worth watching, the creek is perfect, there's always something going on that you don't want to miss.

I say go down there, finish all 3 motos and come home and hang that muddy bib somewhere so you can remember it. Not many people get the chance.

Definitely worth it but I agree with all the points that bogdan912 made above....especially the cash part.
You could spend $200 just on the Cuban Sandwiches in a week at LL's.
Smile

You won't find a hotel within 90 minutes that you would want to even set foot in and staying at the track is half the fun.

I also agree about bringing the toddler.....there is a shit ton of walking to be done even if you get a golf cart so I would say no to any child that isn't mobile on their own.

We went just to watch in 2008 and that was a blast....DO IT!!

Going to LLs and getting a Bear from Mammoth are my two goals.

Qualified multiple times for LLs but never could make it down there and missed out on a Bear by two spots.

Like some have said, just qualifying and making it there is more than most can say. Go have fun and if you want to take it serious, do so.

But most importantly, have fun.

I've stayed at the same old days inn in hurricane mills for 8 years in a row, not that bad. And only 10-15 minutes from the ranch, but I reserve mine when I leave for the next year.

Definitely go, you will regret it.

Reality is setting in that I should just wait a year when my son is almost 2. If I made it this year with what little training I did another year won't hurt if I really put in the extra effort to be up front down there.

No way you can tent camp. The kids would dehydrate.

I've been many times, love racing and also a big cup of coffee and a towel to wipe off a seat to watch the 7:30 am motos go off thegate.

Good times

Why would anyone go racing if they didn't think they have a shot to win? Save your cash and stay home and finish 15th to 25th at the local races.

Cool. Just remember, have as much fun as possible with the wife and kids and the week will be well worth it. Oh, and more importantly, keep it on 2 wheels and stay safe! Get lots of pics make more memories and update us on your accomplishments!
