neverwas, SLAPAHO, KennyT I wonder if its just a coincedence that all 3 accounts were started on back to back to back days in Aug 2006, And all have the same lame ass statements defending the Alessi's and bashing Matthes, Im saying there all the same person ! There is no excuse for Tony's actions, Period, I don't dislike Mike, But Tony is mental !
Haha....glad to see this big news has you doing investigating! 8 years in this place.....no wonder I have high blood pressure!

I'm not defending Tonys actions at all. I just think the gossip columnist handled it as poorly as Tony did.

Exactly......give us news that is useful. Not tattletale over some personal disagreement between a couple guys that don't care for each other . Tony acted like a child and Mathes acted like a little baby by tweeting about. Time for both of them to grow the fuck up. It s really sickening to see
Yep.

Tony is so far out in left field it's actually getting kind of scary. This guy truly has gone loco. Oh well, I wish Mike the best. I respect his ability and he seems to stay pretty darn level headed considering all the insane people around him.

It's hilarious that you want the media to sign a contract saying that your team has final say over editorial..it's amazing you would think this was cool but then the provision where the media guy can't tell anyone he signed it? Let's just humor that and say that this was somehow normal...you don't have a second copy for the media guy to take for his records?

If you're trying to be sneaky and underhanded by not giving someone a copy of what they sign AND you're trying to say that said person can't tell anyone about what they signed--well, in my opinion, you deserve to get called out for all the world to see.

More people should call out complete bullshit when it happens...maybe then there would be less bullshit in the world?
I don't think anybody on here thinks you should have agreed to their terms and signed that contract. But as you suggest above, I am calling bullshit on what you did after that. Pretty stupid stuff on your part.

The Alessi clown show has been there before he showed up, now we just get a front row seat and I'm enjoying every second of it!

Why's Matthes stressing, that contract is for a dude named Steve Mathis.

Can't understand Genova and how he puts up with Tony and the circus show. I really thought he was a smart man and was so cool to invest his money in mx/sx but that team has a lot to do to be taken seriously. Earth to Mike, GET RID OF TONY!
Steve, can't blame you for anything but maybe you can do some real journalism on the sport like find out the real story on James and the test. Maybe contact WADA, FIM, etc. Find out what suspension is coming and what's going to happen going forward with testing. Do some real investigative work and report your findings. That is what's missing in this sport.
6/22/2014 10:08am
If I put myself in Steve's shoes I would have not said anything of the matter other than "I tried to get an interview with Mike but the terms by the team in which that interview was to take place were not favorable."

However, once Tony told Steve he could not review the terms and started calling Steve a mother F'er things changed. I would have called the guy out as well. that sort of behavior is that of an 7 year old throwing a tantrum. If Steve was that damaging of a reporter and no one liked him then PulpMX would never exists or at the very least would have had a short life.

Tony created this scenario by acting like a child. He has called Steve out before very publicly and if anyone thinks that this wasn't his way of getting back at Steve, for whatever he has created in his brain that needs retaliation, then I don't know what to tell you.

I really do feel for Mike. His dad has created a circus around him.

IMHO...Tony Alessi is the key reason why Mike Alessi will never win a championship or even be a key player again in the States. And by starting the same lame brain shit up north...he may well have sealed the deal for Mike's lack of success there. Very sad indeed. One thing for sure...you can't pick your family.

If I was MA...I would tell my Dad to go back home...and stay there. But, then I feel like that should have been done a long time ago.

I feel sorry for Mike.

Let's look at this whole situation, hypothetically, had it not been revealed now. Steve does an article on the Canadian Nat's, has an interview with all of the top 10 riders, most of whom may not even been heard of in the U.S. It appears in RacerX, but a few people realize that a Mike Alessi bit is missing. Those people ask why, and Steve has some options. 1: Lie, and say Mike wasn't available to interview. 2: Lie, and say he WAS available to interview, but only under restrictions from a contractual agreement, and available for the public only after it was approved for release by Tony. 3: Lie, and say he didn't care to interview Mike, because of poor interaction with the Alessi clan, on previous occasions. Now, Steve has shown why there was no interview, and people don't need to ask.

People bitch because they think the media, and journalists in moto, don't provide enough inside info, and they get crucified because of it. In this case, Steve does give info, and people bitch about it. You can argue that has an agenda, and maybe he does, but he certainly was right about LaserGate. He exposed it, and it was for real. Tony and Jeff are their own worst enemies, but Jeff has an excuse, he's a kid. What's Tony's? He'll never figure it out, and thus he'll always be portrayed in the light that he is, with only himself to blame. I'm fairly certain though, he sees it as everyone else's fault.

Disclaimer: The above is only my opinion, and at no time was Jeff Alessi ridiculed for his grammar, or spelling, in his posts. Okay well, except maybe right there. Does that count? I consider that more of an observation.

Matthes has done more to enlarge this sport by media promotion than practically anybody. The guy is smart, has the confidence of most riders & teams to not cross boundaries (much), and knows where most all of the bodies are buried.

I like the guy, and believe Genova was as big a dick as Tony in this story. He did more to give MCR a black eye than Matthes could ever do.

For all of you folks that are saying this is somehow the fault or result of provocation from Steve M; ask yourselves 2 questions.

How many other team managers make this type of request of members of the press?

How many other team managers have this type of repeated drama happening with their team?

The answer to both of those questions is none....

If only Vitards cared as much about safety as they do this National Enquirer BS maybe the injury list might get shorter instead of getting longer every year. I made it through page 1 and that's enough for me.

He was yelling that I'm not protected up there, I'm a piece of shit, no one likes me down in USA or now in Canada & I'm just there to...

And every other name under the sun. Then Leading Edge Kawi owner had to tell him to leave their tent as he chased me over there..

Then I asked Politelli & J Medag if they liked me & they were laughing. All I wanted to do was ask VF & Mike about their race that day &..

We at RXI had talked about doing a feature on how MCR is doing in their cdn adventure but he can kiss that bye bye now- guy was absolute...

Lunatic to me. Ask @jeremymedaglia or any1 there. But now, I present the terms and conditions I wouldn't sign

I'm a little confused....why is this such a big deal and what exactly is Tony guilty of? So Tony wanted Matthes to sign something that says Matthes won't bash MCR? What team wouldn't go out of their way to protect what's being said about their team ESPECIALLY when there's a history of hostility between the parties? Matthes publicizing what happened yesterday and posting a pic of the terms is a prime example of why Tony wanted an agreement signed. Can you really fault Tony for that? I think Tony was pretty smart. Sure Tony could have handled the situation more calmly and not thrown some name-calling...do you really think he's the first guy to call someone and MF'er in the pits? It was something Matthes could use to stir up activity on Vital and Twitter. It was a slow news weekend. Seriously....this isn't a big deal. All of us Vitards simply made it one. Yeah, Tony can be crazy but Matthes used Tony to benefit himself.

To set the record straight....Matthes said he was just walking through the pits doing his interviews for the podcasts and made it sound like he just casually approached the MCR pit. Not the case. He reached out to MCR last weekend in a text saying he was coming to Canada and would like the opportunity to talk to the team to write an editorial. Not that it matters but let's make sure the info being "reported" is accurate.

Then why didn't tony, a rep from MCR, or their PR person send Steve a letter ahead of time outlining the terms and conditions of the interview for Steve and his employer, which I'm guessing this was for racerX so then the editor jason weigandt, to go over and decide how they wanted to proceed?

I'm a little confused as well.

You have only commented on Alessi threads since joining last year....8 comments, all Alessi threads.
Coincidentally you joined on the day of the Washougal national last year....or as we know it "Laser Gate".

Then there is this:
He reached out to MCR last weekend in a text saying he was coming to Canada and would like the opportunity to talk to the team to write an editorial. Not that it matters but let's make sure the info being "reported" is accurate.

How would you know when someone reached out the team via text?

So would you be an Alessi, a girlfriend, friend or just one of the other MCR folks?

I met the Genovas last year and started following motocross at that time....I don't comment much because I admit I don't know much about the sport but when I can apply basic principles to situations, I do. The Genovas are good people... I support them and their team and I can comment based on known facts.....not hearsay or third party info which is why I've only commented about the Alessis.

So then why didn't they let steve know about this a week ago when he asked for the interview? That contract looks like something tony thought up about 20 minutes prior to steve showing up...
