I am going to spend 3 to 4 grand on a 250. I am looking for original or second owner, non rebuilt bikes. Without having a lot of seat time on various newer model bikes- which do you guys recommend? Should I aim for fuel injection, or just a very clean slightly older model? Thanks for any input.

Get a clean used 250 two stroke.

What type of riding do you do?

It will be mostly track, but some woods riding also. I have a 125 two stroke. I want a four stroke.

Don't bother with fi unless it come with an E-start too. The carb'd bikes hit alot harder in most cases.

Fuel injection is a lot smother. I would spend the extra $$$ if you can. Dont know if you rode street bikes but FI is alot better than carbs. Easy to tune. IMO

All I've had is text messages from people that are at sea for 6 months and will send a company to pick it up for their son's birthday present.

I'm probablly faster with FI but on the 250 I prefer the carb. The FI is faster but feels slower.

I appreciate the offer, Chaser, but I am coinicidentally looking at a 13 KX250f only one and a half hours straight west of me. If I am still looking for a bike when I visit my brother, I will contact you. I just got back from looking at an 11 RMZ 250. The bike was beat on more than the (probably old) pictures had showed and didn't reflect what the (probably newly installed) hour meter showed.

And yeah after riding the RMZ, I see what people are talking about now. Unless the clutch springs were worn, or the engine was that tired, it felt considerably slower than my girlfriends 09 CRF 250.

I would go for a fi bike. Don't let the smooth power fool you into thinking it's down in power
