CAN YOU SAVE LINKAGE AND SWINGARM BEARINGS?

I have got some bearings that need changed but I want to try and save them is it possible. I dont think they are roached I just think they weren't taken care of. Can you repack them with grease and make them work?

If they are dry and rusty, then most likely not savable. If just dry and still move freely, then maybe. Just remember that if they were used dry they will have wear. It's best to just replace them.

Bearings are dirt cheap at the bearing places. I usually don't mind buying parts at the local bike shops, but paying 35$ for the same exact thing as I can get for 1.50$ is a little rich for my blood.

I can't get over having to sneak $35 past the wife. I'd have to give it up over that.
Really, see if there is any slop by lifting on the wheel and wiggle the shock to see how much slop it has. Also be aware the heim joints in your shock can have slop too.

Not to hijack the thread but how can you tell when the linkage bearings are bad without taking it apart?

Slop in the up and down movement of the swingarm. It may rattle or squeak. You could remove the shock and check for play in there too. It all needs to be nice and tight.

Honestly I don't have to sneak anything really but the bike rides very nice but they are sort of rusty. So I may be able to just get away with greasing them ill just be careful taking the seals out. And where the heck do you get swing arm bearings and linkage bearings for 35$? I was looking at motosport and the kits were 77 a piece. Oh and I do have the bike stripped right now for an extreme cleaning its just engine and frame I put it back in last night.

So if there is side to side movement with the shock removed, then I most likely need new linkage bearings?Unsure

Here's one way to tell! Just wait to the dog bone completely breaks. JK, don't do that. I bought the bike used and took the guys word that he put new linkage bearings in it. Well he put new bearing in it but didn't install the inner steel sleeve that the bolt goes through. It was an expensive mistake but now I know (cue music)

When the linkage bearings on my 97 RM250 got too bad, the previous owner just removed the needles and shoved the bushing and bolts back in. Good as new! (And by that I mean he destroyed the linkage and swingarm). Stupid bastige.

Well I finally finished my carb and reed cleaning last night and got to the swingarm and found one side that didnt even have a retainer on it was decent and saveable and the other side with a retainer on it , I opened up and the needles were falling out like rain drops ha. So it looks like im riding the 125 until I save up 150 bucks for both linkage and swingarm kits. If I am changin one I might as well change them all right.

I'm glad I decided to order new linkage bearings, they were completely rusted and destroyed. My only problem is I cant seem to get the main bolt out that goes through the frame. It's being very stubborn

Spray it with PB Blaster and let it sit for several hours. Keep spraying it every hour or so to make sure you get it all the way between the sleeve and bolt.

I finally managed to knock it out after letting it soak in PB blaster. The bolt was very rusty from the shot bearings
