What's a "rev tube?" Help a dope get the pipe vocab down.

So pro circuit has one avail for $1000.

Nothing from FMF yet.
Nothing from Yosh, although they say they have something coming.
Jardine's got something but I haven't found anything on it.

Dr. D?

I think that's the little balance tube that you occasionally see welded on head pipes like Akrapovic.

The tube you reference is known as a resonance chamber. It adds low end and lowers the sound level by one db.

Has zero effect on revs.

A rev tube is FMF's name for a tube insert that goes into their mufflers.
By the way the new Honda 450 and the new kx 450 both test at 99+ db's
Not sure how this new sound level will work for amateurs in 2010.

Yeah, pay a grand for a lower quality product, that's louder. Plus you get the added benefit of looking really cool in the back of your lifted black F-150. 1000 dollars is a ripoff. Stock pipes usually outlast the rest of the bike. I hope most of those beginners had to buy a pipe because they wadded it so bad that the stock one was junked.

Apparently they (us models anyway) are designed to be 98 db.
So if you want to enter a pro race you will have to change pipes.
Or if you race as an amateur in 2010 with your 09 bike you will need to change as well.
this includes arena cross. Bet his rule doesn't make it to A1

No, as the rule is currently proposed. if you race as an amateur in 2010 you will need to pass the 94db sound test.
Because very few stock pipes will pass this test, you will have to purchase an aftermarket pipe.

The plan is to give the racers two to three races before they come down with strict enforcement.

I just hope this doesn't turn out the way 99 decibels did last year for the amateur dirt track crowd. The AMA announced 99 decibels was going to be enforced at the Nationals but hardly anyone was passing at the Regionals so the AMA decided at the last minute to not do sound testing.

BTW, it would have been nice to have known the AMA was going to cave before I sent a bunch of db Dawgs to three of the promoters.

Just heard back from Yosh, apparently they are only offering a 94db insert...
