My wife and I attended the Daytona SX yesterday for the first time in quite a few years, and I consider myself to be a pretty avid fan of the sport and kind of caught on to this guys enthusiasm last year when I would watch qualifying practice. Every week I rooted for him, and other privateers as well to make the show and finally it happened for him in Vegas.
The new format this year really gives privateers and honest chance to make mains and he's been doing a pretty damn good job of it lately, and he never fails to "fist pump" whenever he does qualify, even if it's a 4th in the LCQ he celebrates like he won the main event. As I cruised the pits yesterday I made it a point to try to find him and the privateer journey team and just let them know I'm a fan of the program and what they bring to the sport, Nick took time away from his dinner(it was after 5) and spoke to my wife and I about his year so far and how he was just pumped to be able to ride all the rounds thanks to the privateer journey team.
Anyway, this kid and his whole team are what I would like to see out of all the guys. I understand guys like Villipoto and Stewart are used to winning all the time, but it would be great to see the same level of excitement from them when they do. If you get a chance at an upcoming round to meet up with guys like Nick you should do so, take a stroll past the crowds and take a minute to thank the guys that are out there giving it their all to make the 22 rider field that we all enjoy watching every week.

I'm really start to show my age with the "too cool for school" symbolism..............
I was really pulling for the 7-deuce-deuce too, but he slid backwards during the LCQ. He's close though...really close to being on the level too.
Hearing both these guys on Pulp also makes you want them to make it.
