I ABSOLUTELY love the 300kit & highly recommend it. I didn't care for the Loudmouth & I took it out & sold it on eBay for more than I paid for it :-) I've only ridden my bike twice since I put it in & I raced it yesterday for the 1st time with the 300kit & I got 3 out of 4 holeshots & won all 4 of my motos. I had a great day & I LOVE my bike :-) My Sunoco rep was there yesterday & took a cool vid of one of my starts yesterday & as soon as I figure out how to post it I will. He put it on FB so if you are friend's with me you can see it there.

My bike with ten hrs started killing spark plugs. Is this electric problem or my recent jetting change. Happend twice in less than 1 hour, 90 seconds after cold startup. Dead no spark in plug. Put new 12$ plug in , OEM, and ride

bump because i just read this whole thread

i've had my 13 250sx since winter and have been riding it every weekend since march, no major problems. at unadilla the pipe cracked in 2 spots but i got through the weekend. ended up getting a free pipe from ktm, ill get a aftermarket one next year

the bike is completly stock except for bars, i haven't messed with the jetting because it seems to be running fine. i'm not an expert on 2 strokes so i might bring the bike over to my friends who is a rm guru and maby do the jetting you guys are talking about. it doesn't ping at all but it could run alittle smoother.

My pipe cracked also in two different spots. Would love to hit them up for a new one. It cracked at 20 hrs and was very loud when racing, I slobbered some weld on and that quieted it down. How many hrs on yours. I adjusted my jetting and changed to 101 ll av gas and had had great results. This pic is from labor day weekend Sat and Sun race at Montezuma Fun valley in Iowa. First on both days!

My pipe cracked as well. Didn't bother contacting KTM because I was going to buy an FMF combo anyway.

dam, i guess those stock pipes aren't that strong. my bike has atleast 30 hours on it. it cracked right at the spring mount and right on the back side of the sharp bend going into the cylinder. that one wasn't on a seem or a weld. i am going to get a pc with a bud carbon silencer, just didn't feel like shelling out the cash till winter

the pipes are a known issue lol

if you visit ktmtalk at all, there was a guy that claimed to go to a KTM demo day and he asked about the pipes cracking to one of the KTM guys ther,e to which the guy laughed and said its a heated debate with the KTM engineers as to why they break so easily.

Well, thanks a 3rd time guys. Oh and Digger thank you for suggesting to help me with the needle. I am going to fiddle a little more with the stock needle and see if I can make it work, if not I will contact you!

Can you or mynewcr tell me what the difference is between the NECJ and the stock needle? And what makes it so good? If it matters, I'm riding at sea level at approx. 50 to 60F right now.

i posted a breakdown of the N1E/NOZ/NEC/NED needle series couple posts back. the NEC series and the stock N1E series are the same needle EXCEPT the NEC uses a leaner first taper *AND* the NEC is 1 full clip position leaner than the N1E series needle. so if you just want the leaner first taper feel and like the rest of the bikes response you'd run the NEC in clip 4, this would be EQUAL to the stock N1E in the 3rd clip. the same applies to the NED series needle, EXCEPT it is only 0.5 clip position leaner than the stock needle.

people like the NEC/NED needles because of the leaner first taper compared to the stock N1E series, this is why the sx runs really rich at ~1/4ish throttle. the stock needle works pretty good if youre a very fast and aggressive rider in the corners where youre not on the first taper very often, unfortunately im not the fastest guy at the track lol.

the last letter in each series needle is the straight length's diameter. for example from rich to lean it would go NECH - NECW - NECJ - NECK and so on. this series uses the letter "W" in place of " I "

for what its worth, id start with an NECW in clip 4. same straight length diameter as stock/ same 2nd/3rd tapers, just a leaner first taper, this will give you a good idea if you want to keep heading in this direction. if you do, i highly recommend you get the half clip versions too. i never saw a needle for them until i got this SX, its more picky than my honda. visit the KTMtalk forums too, my info comes from JerseyDevil over there, he's got the needle info down.

DIGGER: thanks man, just trying to get an idea on your situation vs mine here due to what i experience with my SX. like you, that thing pinged bad on a 162 under WOT, less on the 165. will skip straight to 170 (we just dropped literally 25 degress so i may even skip straight to the 175 instead) and retry, i think youve got it sorted man. also another quick question, what was Ron's reasoning for being happy you didnt get the 300? does he feel it has some bad qualities vs the 250?
Hey NewCR, thats some good info. What's the difference between the NECW and the NECJ needles? Seems like the NECJ is the top choice, so I was wondering how it compares to the NECW.

Just got my new baby! 2013 KTM 250 Sx. (spoke with my wallet , Ha). Anyway, it didn't come with a manuel because they didn't have them yet and I wanted to get an idea of some setups for the thing as far as sag, powervalve springs, and clickers. I know the clickers is more of a ride to feel thing, but was wondering if anybody has a racing baseline for the thing. Anything would be appreciated.
Anyone have vibration issues with the 300 kit, also what FMF pipe and silencer is best for 2013

I've heard of some 300 kits having some vibration so while my bike was apart I had the lower end balanced. Money well spent. My bike is so smooth and revs so quick. I feel that the guys having vibration issues were having it with their 250 top end as well and it just becomes more noticeable with the added weight of the piston and bump in compression.

I'm running the PC pipe & 304 shorty silencer and it works awesome with the 300 kit. None of my pipes have cracked. I ran the FMF combo for months before switching the to PC set up after installing the 300 kit. If you want to go the FMF combo go with the factory fatty and the shorty powercore 2 silencer.

Digger, replacing the clutch on my bike and I can't find anything that tells me how much to tighten the bellville bolts. You have any insite on this?

I couldn't find anything either so I just tightened them as I would the bolts on my RM250s clutch. I've had the clutch out a few times too, when I was trying out the Rekluse and then when I installed the heavier 280 Bellville washer and I just tightened the bolts the same each time and I haven't any issues whatsoever. Sorry I couldn't shed anymore light on this for you.

So I talked to my dealer and got the specs on replacing the clutch. The 1.2mm intermedite plate goes first(inner most), then the 1.4mm plates go between all the fiber washers, and the 1mm is the outter plate. The torque spec for the bellville is 4.4ft/lbs. I am also getting the repair/service manual from them, which comes as a CD.

Speaking about clutches, are you guys all running the 280psi belleville washer? I seem to be going through clutch plates a lot faster than I would want to, and I wonder if that's the problem (other than my abusive left hand).

Has anyone had any good experiences with aftermarket radiators for this bike? My right side started leaking, and I refuse to buy an OEM one because they are outrageously priced and junk in my opinion.

Hey Dig.

I've yet to install my Loudmouth, what didn't you like about it?

I read some really good things about it on the 350, and I came really close to not installing my filter properly first change.

I'm using the OEM belleville and the clutch wear seems to be normal except when I ride a bunch of sand tracks. She wears pretty quick then.

I'm on my second set of after market radiators(I know, right). The first set I bought was a cheap Chinese set off of ebay. Although they fit and looked good, they weren't quality and didn't hold up. Not suprising. Now I bought a set of Mylers. I have only had them on for 3 rides/races so far, but they also fit and look good. We'll see how they hold up.

I am from Belgium, so 90% of our tracks are sand.. I just ordered the 280 psi belleville, so we'll see how that goes.
Are you running the stock gearing? I am, but I'm thinking about going a tooth up on the rear to be able to plow through the sand berms in 3rd gear easier, without having to clutch it every time.

It sucks to hear that the Chinese ones didn't hold up, because I have been looking at them as well. $170 for a set of oversized rads, pretty unbelievable price: http://www.ebay.com/itm/high-performance-aluminum-alloy-radiator-KTM-12…

I am running the stock gearing. Works pretty well for the tracks in central PA. I only get on sand tracks a handful of times year, but when I do I can feel the clutch beginning for mercy.

Those are the radiators I had first. The mounting plate(side of the radiation that bolts to the frame) ended up snapping off. Below are the ones I have on now. Obviously more, but not as bad as the Moose or others. Hopefully they hold up.

I installed the 280psi Belleville washer about a month after I bought my 13. I could feel my clutch slipping on certain sections of our practice track and I knew that I wasn't crazy. The clutch has a much more solid engagement and hooked up after you install it. It's a great $40 mod for your bike. I went to the longer "old school" ARC lever and it pulls so easy now that it's laughable. People are always coming by and squeezing my clutch lever and saying "I hate you" and I then say and that's with heavy clutch springs. Most don't understand the whole Belleville thing so I say clutch springs to them. Crush, I installed and used the Loudmouth in Florida last winter and while I like the concept and it's probably a great set up for some bikes I didn't like it on the KTM because the filter is really small and the unit in mounted kind of more towards the throttle side of our bikes totally negating the straight intake that KTM designed with the PDS bikes. I was told by my buddy at KTM the whole reason they didn't want to design a linkage bike was because it would require changing the intake boot that basically has to go around the shock body.

I have 2 hours on my 14 250SX, thanks for the jetting tips guys, 40 pilot, NECJ 4th position, 165 main, pump gas 93oct at 32:1 with Dominator and she runs awesome.

I was wondering if any of you guys had any negative experience with shifting on your bikes, maybe its just because mine is so new, but shes pretty tight shifting and doesn't like to shift under any little bit of a load.

ive noticed that on a few occasions. even with the awesome brembo clutch, there have been a few hiccups with shifting smooth on mine. pretty annoying.

Yeah I have to make sure to get my clutch all the way in, or else she wont shift. I hope it wears in some with time and shifts more easily.

I'm sorry to say this, but I've had KTM's since 2003 and not one of my bikes was ever a great shifter. I believe MXA wrote something about it in the past, that there is a flaw in the mechanism design.

Yup, goggle it and you'll find the video on how to solve your shifting issue. I did the mod late last summer and mine shifts better than it did new. It shifts with or without the clutch and wide open under a load without any hiccups whatsoever now.
