I didn't read through this entire thread.....but if you watch it over a few times ( even in slow motion )....Mike actually keeps the throttle pinned and DUMPS the clutch about 2' before impact!
I'm Trying to support Mike this year.....but that was a shit head move if I've ever seen one!
“So I was leading the series by a good point margin and the only way Honda’s Danny “Magoo” Chandler was going to win was to have me DNF,” Glover tells us today. “At Lakewood, the Honda bike is running so much better than my bike and we were all going pretty well. Chandler was screwing with me in the first moto, he chopped me off in the air, cut over on me and in the next corner he tried brake-checking me. I finally made a clean pass and won the moto.”
“The next moto, same story, I come up on him while he got the holeshot. The whole 40 minutes of the race, he was trying to sucker me into crashing or hurting myself and I wasn’t going to do that. We came up over a hill, then came out of a gully and made a sharp 90-degree turn over this hump. I came to the top of the thing and he would stop in the rut and wait for me to run into him. This was lap after lap. So I just cleaned him out on the last lap, just ghost rode my bike into him and we both ended up falling down this hill, our bikes and everything. It was really steep! We ran down there and everything was tangled up. By the time we got going, some 30-seconds or so, Goat Breker came around the turn and won the moto. He went 3-1, I went 1-3 and Magoo went 2-2. That was what I remember from that year.”
These warriors of motocross past are glorified for actions that Alessi is being crucified over. Magoo wanted to take Glover out by DNF or by getting Glover to crash and hurt himself. There's no doubt that Chandler was a warrior and had the heart of a champion, but come on. The hate in these Alessi threads is too much. I'm no Alessi fan myself and I'm not defending his actions, but I think some of the motivations are transparent in these types of threads.
2. Tickle passed Alessi as clean as it gets and then Alessi T-bones him with no intent except to put Tickle on the ground HARD.
3. The Alessi family has a long history of pulling bullshit bonehead moves and they have no respect for the other riders.
4. Alessi is a second rate rider who knows his only chance to win or even get 4th in a heat is block and take people out.
5. I'm a Dungey fan but if I saw him pull shit like that I'd be PISSED. There is no excuse for that kind of riding.
But honestly, after Jeff's latest post calling RC a cheater, I can't defend the Alessi's, so I'm going to drop it.
Did you watch the video? That's the only motivation you need to come to the conclusion it wasn't a PASS attempt.
I agree it wasn't a pass attempt. I'm not defending Alessi's actions, I'm just saying that the reactions have more to do with the particular rider than with the actual t-bone.
The internet would have officially broken.
Pit Row
