If Reed can't race (or ride close to his full potential with these injuries) is this championship over already? I just can't see Roczen taking it to RV for the next 11 races and not having a few mistakes that'll cost him along the way. Stew is down 21, Dungey 32. In between them is Brayton and come on, he's not gonna challenge for this thing. So, barring an injury or multiple very bad races for RV is it already over? Hate for this to even be a question by round six but...

We've seen RV have bad races before, and we've seen James go on a winning streak. Kenny may still surprise us, but I think the championship will come down to RV or JS. All I can hope for is a close points race going into Vegas. It'd be awesome if there were 4-5 riders separated by just a few points at vegas, win and take it all kind of deal.

Back in 2009 when it was pretty much Stewart and Reed, it was probably harder since Reed was most likely going to be 2nd anytime Stewart won, which he was....this year, with so many guys capable of podiums and the "anything can happen" factor, if Stew get another win and RV gets a 5th or 6th, that point gap is cut in half.....it could get interesting and hopefully it does...especially if you have nights where neither RV or Stewart finish on the podium or guys like Dungey or ROczen take the win....so we'll see....hopefully Stewart can keep it on two wheels and maybe some luck comes his way...

This time last year, Millsaps was up 19 points on Dungey and 27 on RV. There is still a lot of racing left. The next 5 rounds will paint a much clearer picture but it's still too early to tell.

But that's Millsaps with the lead. RV has the lead now and that's a whole different story. That said I do agree, anything can happen and the next 5 rounds will be very telling.

the racing has been great....
however to keep the series points tight...RV needs to have a mulligan like most of the other top riders have....

I believe Kenny is fast enough, smart enough, and consistent enough to stay in the title hunt. I haven't been a huge fan in the past, but he is winning me over.

Could happen....Fuelgate, Broken chain, Flattire, Tear an ACL.

All could cost 25 points, even a championship at anytime.

IMO the only way RV will lose this championship is an injury. Even if he has RV has a mechanical failure I think the only way he will lose this championship is an injury. I think the other guys have picked up the pace, but his consistency has stayed strong even while others have picked it up a notch.

RV has been injured alot in his career. People forget because of his win streak the last few years. Anything can happen, especially with RV being pushed by KR and JS. I think the East is as big an advantage for JS as it is for RV. Dungey will be there until the end. I think it will get exciting (even more exciting) before Vegas.

I think BamBam will turn it up once they go East, and when Canard and Milsaps get back they'll be in there as well. Maybe not getting the wins, but getting in between and stealing points.
The championship is far from over. I think Daytona will be a very critical race for all of them. One mudder can change everything..........

Kenny's transfer to the 450 has really surprised me. We all knew that whatever he rode in whatever MX series, that he was going to be good. But his speed and (more to the point) his smoothness and control on the bigger bike especially, has been a pleasure to watch. I think it's obvious to see that his physical conditioning as improved tremendously too.

Still with that said, I believe that RV remains the overall favourite down the line. Imo you simply have to call him the favourite going off history and what we currently know now. The guy has already won a bunch of 450 titles and has all the experience that goes with it; particularly as the season drags on and exhaustion builds. I'm hoping KR can make it happen though.

Sorry to say but I think that it'd take a small miracle for Chad at this point. I'll be astonished if he's even able to ride this weekend - but again, we'll see.

Wasn't it RC that used to say that the championship didn't really start 'til Daytona?

If that's the case that's awesome! Chad will be healthy and we'll have Canard and Millsaps in it, Dungey Stew and Barcia will get a reset it'll be great. 6 way title fight!

I can dream...

The racing week to week has been so good. With Reed's injury though a lot of wind has been taken out of the sails of the series from a championship standpoint.

It's an Interesting time for RV.

If he goes for wins, he may have to push, and risk mistakes.

If he goes to the prevent defense, these guys could chip away and make it close at the end.

I really doubt that Reed can be a threat now. If he had made the pass on KR, he would be just 4 points behind RV. Reed's injury should relieve some pressure for RV. I hope RD, JS, KR etc., can show the competitive drive Chad was showing.

Even if RV wins the title I still think the racing will be good because he isn't walking away from everyone. I hope he doesn't dominate once we head east. JS7 is from the east coast too...

If he goes into defense mode now, it will give Stewart and Roczen a chance to reel off some wins or better finishes than RV and close the points gap quickly. Then we may get into that dog fight and see who can handle the pressure the best (and I'm hoping this happens). But I think just like most champions, RV wants to win, and it'll get under his skin if he gets beat by those guys on an ongoing basis, especially out in the east. Speed for Speed I think Stewart is the only one left that can run RVs pace consistently. Reed showed it some, but it'll be tough to run that pace with those injuries, if he can even ride at all. Roczen has surprised me, and maybe he can do it, too. Barcia has the skill, but we haven't seen it much this year.

Some people act like these guys have never riddden a big bike. All of them have and raced them in the am's.
