I was sitting on the bed in my old house in Boynton Beach, watching Good Morning America
They came back from a commercial and said it looked like a plane had hit the WTC.
While talking, I saw live the 2nd plane hit
I knew the world changed
I immediately got on Fresh Dirt and posted what was going on and what I saw, and throughout that morning all of us who were there at that time communicated together what we knew, saw and heard on various media reports.
I called my Wife, who worked for local government and told her to leave, and they did allow the staff to leave by 11am
Seeing it all unfold live over the morning, including the collapse of the WTC, was very scary.

Didn't know what happened, but soon after the entire room was glued to the screen. We all entered the meeting and within 15 minutes had plans set to get home. I ended up driving from Denver to Sioux Falls to drop off a co-worker then on to Minnesota.
One of the most somber drives I've ever been on. It certainly was nice to get home and be with my family.
I can't imagine what those families of the victims lived through, and have lived with since that day.

Months after 9-11, whenever I heard a plane it made me jumpy and I would look up
I have to fly to Miami tonight for work, I am a little bit nervous about it.
She called me back when the second one hit, I couldn't belive it really. I said to her were are under some kinda attach! We soon after got the call to come to the office and leave our job site.
I dont think any of us will ever forget that. Just as I bet the people who was old enough to remember Pearl Harbor will never forget where they were on that day as well.
Like Dave said, being at the track every weekend, in DFW where an airplane can be seen at any time on any day, and not seeing or hearing airplanes was very strange.
Alfred Hitchcock strange.
There was no power and no cell service and no one in his area knew what had happened. All they knew was that something big had been blown up and there were lots of F-15's and F-16's flying around. He said they all thought we had been attacked by China or Russia. That was the only thing that they could imagined that would cause that much commotion.
Pit Row
I started getting very nervous as this unfolded as I was in one of the upper floors in downtown St Louis and at the time we had no idea if this was going to continue on to other cities. All air traffic was grounded. I'm not sure how many times that had ever happened before. Very sad day and things have been different since.
We had a huge video wall where the electrical system grid & other displays are usually displayed for operations. We put CNN on the wall & watched the chaotic scene as it unfolded. Then we watched dumbfounded as the second plane struck & it immediately became apparent that this was not a tragic accident, as we all had thought, and the reality began to sink in that this was an attack.
Being situated in one of the tallest buildings in SF the implications were chilling. We immediately went into crisis mode as they began to evacuate the building & send people home to their families. As critical personnel we, of course, could not leave. A very intense day spent fielding calls from the Governor, Mayor, the National Guard & others who wanted to make sure our field personnel were watching for anything suspicious, and most chilling of all, looking out of the panoramic windows of our highrise for signs of a plane headed our way.
Watching all the different memorials today was very surreal. My heart aches for all of those families.
We headed straight to the clubhouse to see everyone standing in complete silence watching the events unfold. I knew right then things were going to change and many would die fighting for our freedoms in the future.
The rest of the week was really somber. Fighter jets from what I presumed to be from Shaw AFB were patrolling the skies the next few days. We weren't really sure if our flight home to the west coast would even fly the following Saturday.
On our way home, in the airport at Atlanta, we made a "Pact" with several other people in the bar to "take care" of anything that were to happen on the flight back to LAX.
I fell asleep on the flight home (lot of help I'd be). Unknowingly to me, the captain turned the plane around over Alabama and headed back to Atlanta claiming we were experiencing engine problems. I guess some people were FREAKING out. I woke up when we landed fully thinking we were in LA.
Went back one year later, on the flight home a stewardess came to me and some friends asking, "If we need you guys to help us take someone down, are you in?" Are you fuckin kidding me, who? She pointed out a gentleman that apparently after takeoff decided to put on a turbin and open large schematics of the type of plane we were on. He was instructed to not leave his seat the entire flight, which he didn't. About a dozen LAPD officers were waiting for him when we arrived at LAX.
We decided right then and there to change the golf trip to May.....
As soon as I got into the office there were several people talking about it. I arrived before the 2nd plane hit. I had a lot going on that day and started in when a friend ran up and said the 2nd tower was hit. I didn't believe him, but as we left my office I saw the looks of some others who had been on the internet and read about it already and I knew it was true.
My wife was just north of the Mexican border at the time and crossed over into Mexico right after it happened. Her cell service was dead down there so I couldn't get a hold of her till that night when she crossed back over. She saw lines of cops and border patrol agents all around the border crossing when she came back, but somehow didn't know what happened till she called me to let me know she was back on the US side.
My daughter put a tape in the VCR and recorded CNN's live feed from just a few minutes after it happened. I watched it when I got home.
In the weeks that followed there were stories of possible strikes on the water supply by tanker trucks, and one morning I saw a tanker parked by an aqueduct and remember thinking about what it was doing there. My wife was being extra careful opening mail too as the Anthrax attacks ramped up.
Like the JFK assassination, everyone knew where they were or what they were doing when they heard. 9/11 is a day like that one, but our kids remember too.
I had just got out of bed and turned the TV on, They said a plane had apparently hit the World Trade Center, I remember watching and wondering how this could happen and all of a sudden the other plane hit Tower 2 , I still couldn't register it was an attack but soon realized it was, I was in a fog it seems for several day's wondering how it would all play out.
I also remember being in the Club House of a Golf Course when they announced we were bombing Afghanistan and I remember people cheering , my son was approx 10 yrs old and was cheering too and I told him even though I thought we were doing the right thing it was nothing to cheer about because it was the start of a very long struggle.
I didn't want to go to work. I wanted to stay there with my family and hope this was all just a hoax. I went on to work and we discussed it there most of the day. Oddly, we didn't go home early.
I remember watching it for days but the wife had had enough after the first day. Then after a while, out of the blue, someone decided we'd all seen enough. It was only making people angry. I wish they'd stuck with it and covered it all.
