Ok, rather than trying to make a point in a nice way I will get to the point. Nike is endorsing Dungey to see if they can sell shoes to the flatbiller wanabe sheep that this industry seems to have it’s share of.

Point is that Fox makes much more selling stickers and tees hats and hoodies than they do riding gear. IMO if they quit selling riding gear tomorrow it would not hurt their profits and that’s why they are hitting the surf market so hard.

We sell as much casual clothing as we do gear. Hell it doesn't bother me one bit. Money is money. Some of my best sales people are some MX girls that are spreading the word at their high school that we have the stuff.
According to good sources, the contract talks between Fox and James were going along fairly well early on. Fox was even willing to pay him the same amount for a Supercross-only deal as they would have paid him for a full season. Then, when he wanted to switch helmets and gain even more control over logos, the talks slowed down. The hottest rumor is that James has signed to wear Answer gear in 2009. Obviously, he could still sign a separate helmet deal, most likely with Bell, and a separate boot deal (although Nike seems like a stretch). Fox still might be able to pull the iron out of the fires with Stewart, but don't count on it.
After the Mid-Week Report first broke the news last week about the probable split between Fox and James Stewart (with Answer Products now looking like Stewart's new gear sponsor), the biggest question left unanswered was who Fox would go to next to fill the void. Fox has never been without having one or more of the sport's biggest stars under their roof, and now with RC retired and Stewart defecting, the question has to be - what now? Ivan Tedesco has proven to be a bust, most people think Carpenter is about as good as he's going to get, so who? The likeliest candidates could be either Mike Alessi - Fox could presumably outbid the clothing contract from Alpinestars (who don't even sell the gear in America), or they could go after Dungey, not only for the sake of retribution, but also because Answer may have emptied their bank account to get Stewart. Cody Cooper could be a star in the making, but with his probable transfer to the Joe Gibbs team with outfits by Troy Lee Designs, that's unlikely. There have been rumors of a Short/Fly split, but none of these come close to filling the Superstar void.
Fox can either save their money and wait for a future Villopoto/Thor split, wait it all out until the next big thing comes along, spread their money out among the more than ample supply of current struggling privateers, or a combination of all three. The one more added bit of Stewart intrigue...all the talk last year about the level of hurt felt in the Stewart camp when Kawasaki forced a team-wide Monster deal on the formerly Red Bull sponsored athlete was apparently deep enough to be among the reasons he left Kawasaki to go to the San Manuel Yamaha team because Red Bull just happens to be back with James for 2009 in A BIG WAY!!
